So, I totally forgot to mention that I am doing an october art challenge! I am using a nature-girls prompt list by Danielle Boinay
And these are the first 10: crescent moon, snow, redwood, cumulus, fox, lagoon, ivy, horizon, seashells and finally today’s prompt was eclipse. I am having a lot of fun and I really hope my approach (to vary between more or less complex paintings) helps keeping me motivated!
jokes aside, i'm obsessed with teya's brother. they haven't seen each other in what, 15 years? and teya's pestering him with questions about how he's been and he's trying to learn what's happened to her since he left home (was taken from home.)
for her, it was always an unknown: he was talented, but weak in a way where he had to be dragged away from his family. teya would have gone willingly but had no talent. teya stayed at home, he went away. teya clawed her way to a place where she had what she'd always wanted, he had to be forced to take it.
she's still concerned about him. he's her little brother. she doesn't begrudge him for not wanting what she thought he should want. he was just a child! how could he know any better?
teya also had a shiny little list of traitors deposited in her lap by plot that she readily handed over to her uncle: she knew a few of the names. teya would deal with traitors, easily, but her brother was (is) still a little too soft for her comfort. he seemed uncomfortable at the list: said he knew a few of the names on it: fellow students.
teya is willing to do whatever it takes.
(teya can't even really choose not to do whatever it takes, given that she's got the ol' boss man probably lurking in her head, if he feels the need.)
teya would easily turn on an ally of someone close to her, if ordered. there's no question in her mind. she might regret the necessity, later, but she'd do it.
out of character, i'm a little concerned about the brother and the list of traitors. teya is, for the moment, assuming he'll do what's right, and that if their uncle trusted the brother enough to show it to him, then it'll be alright. out of character, that one has some potential to be pretty rough.
(And, from talking with the DM post session, I can assume it will be rough 😭)

Thecla and Severian from The Book of the New Sun series, which I've been reading for the past couple of years.
I want to give a shout out to Shelved by Genre podcast, which has been excellent listening after reading each book, their long discussions about the chapters have been interesting and inspiring, and provided some context for lot of things I had no point of reference for at all. (Catholic lore, for one).
Funnily enough they mentioned in fan art, there tends to be two camps for Severian - either the heavy metal-esque, ripped as hell muscle fantasy type, or, the jrpg protagonist. You can see which camp I am.
