Practice??? Literally how I draw anything else
Use reference first, and just keep on drawing dem hands and eventually they’ll start looking more and more natural
Don’t expect to be able to do it overnight because fair warning it took me 3-4 years of practice before I considered my hands anywhere near decent I think
I mean I still am lacking a bit, foreshortening is the absolute BANE OF MY EXISTENCE
But you know, hate to sound repetitive, but there you go?

The over mitt sketch thing amworks wonders for positioning I guess? Though I freehand a good amount of the time
If I’m doing a hand where the whole thumb is visible, I always start with the thumb, because the finger positions and sizes can easily be figured out in relation to the thumb and you can eye out how you want the wrist to connect to the hand, because the thumb juts out a bit. If the thumb is blocked, then I start from the index finger.
Beyond that, usually for aesthetic purposes the middle and ring finger are bunched together tho I’ve been trying to stay away from that.
If you’re drawing a side view of hands, and feel lazy to draw the rest of the fingers, it’s fair game to just leave them as an ambiguous blob as long as you draw the thumb and pointer finger
I do that on a good amount of my reference pics for characters when they lift their arm slightly
Ummm and make sure the fingers aren’t super straight even if they’re stretched out or relaxed, because the human body is full of curves even when you’re drawing hands lol
If they’re relaxed curve them in slightly, if they’re stretched, curve them out slightly, generally the curve can tell you a lot about how much energy they’re putting into whatever hand position they’re using
Beyond that? You can develop your own way of drawing them to make them sharper or rounder or whatever. My art style is mostly cute and round, but relatively simple, so I neglect small details like knuckles and nails and lines for the most part.
There was some cool thing I saw with nails where they were round and bent out of the finger a bit but made them look pretty dainty and nice??
