Do you have headcanons for America and Mexico as friends? Or as enemies? I imagine them to be like England and France, what do you think?
Mun: Why not both, dear anon?
💚Both are very competitive with each other, especially in video games, volleyball (in the frontier, true fact, google it), and social life.
💚Talking about social life, both of them share friends. Ex. Japan, France, Brazil, Philippines, etc. But all of them agree that is not a good idea to have these two together in the same room, unless you want to see a scene full of tension, teasing and sarcasm.
💚Normally, Mexico acts like a carefree and free spirit person. But when she´s with America she changes, pretending to be more mature and gets into a “latina mom” mode: scolding and lecturing Alfred whenever he does something wrong, and with America replying sarcastically, “Well I´m sorry, mom” “Are you hearing yourself? You´re starting to sound like England.”
💚America also has a frenemy relationship with Russia and (recently) with China. So, in order to annoy him, Mexico puts on their side and would say things like: “Why are you not like them, gringuito?”
Yes, I know, all of these could be summarized into a toxic relationship, but no everything is bad or negative with these two.
💚Things they share or have in common: Baseball, Selena Quintanilla´s songs, songs that have the same instrumental but have different lyrics in their respective languages, cowboy/charro culture, teasing themselves as well as their friends and relatives, drinking Coca-Cola, archeology and exploring.
💚The best thing they have done for the other:
🇲🇽Even if Mexico acts as a “latina mom” with America, it doesn´t mean is always something bad. On one occasion America was under a lot of pressure and stress, but he didn´t want to show to the rest of the world that he was worried. At first, he and Mexico were playfully teasing each other, as usual, but then Mexico realized something was wrong and when she discovered that it was a serious issue, she stopped all the teasing and mockery, and immediately went to his house to give him a hand. She prepared the meal and a hot chamomile tea, and then she suggested Alfred to take a nap. At first he refused since he still had a lot of work to do, but then Lupita said “Don´t worry, I´ll stay here to make sure you wake up on time”, and so she did. The next few days America was still busy, but more relaxed.
🇺🇸There have been some occasions in which America has tried to mend his relationship with Mexico by making films and shorts talking about how beautiful and great is the country. Of course it hasn't always worked, but then we have animated films and cartoons. Characters like Speedy Gonzales and Panchito Pistoles, are still adored by mexicans, even if there are a few persons that consider them as offensive stereotypes. But for Mexico, one of the most genuine show of affection from America was the moment she watched Coco at the premiere. The characters, the backgrounds, all the references to her culture, the music... everything was very well researched. And when the movie ended, she was trying to hold back her tears of joy. Then America, who was sited at her side, asked “So Mex, what´s your opinion?” What he received was a very tight hug. “Thank you, guërito. I love it!” said Mexico, hiding her face on his chest and finally shedding a tear.
(Of course, a few days after these tender moments took place, they pretend like nothing happened and start to act like their normal selves)
💚One thing they´ll never admit to the other: Both of them keep the letters they wrote to each other when they were colonies, and some photos as well.
