I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2005) dir. Joe Wright
Dads who refuse to do anything that is traditionally considered âfeminineâ with their daughters are lame dads. Iâve been in the store and overheard a dad tell his little girl who might have been 12 to go by herself to go get pads after she asked him to go with her. âGo get them yourself.â and he looked mortified she even asked him to go. Like dude she clearly looks like she needs help. Take her to the god damn tampon/pad section and help her and if you donât know what she needs go ask some one in their pharmacy to point out a good choice for you. Tampons and pads are part of pharmacy so chances are they will be able to help. Fuck all that. Help your daughters! They ask you to paint their nails, do it. It might turn out messy but so what? They ask you to have a tea party, do it. Sure the tea might be imaginary or just water and served out of tiny pink cups but get over it.
This. Also, donât be afraid to teach your daughters âmanlyâ things. Youâre building something and she asks what youâre doing? Tell her. Teach her how to use that drill and do it right. Going hunting and she wants to come? Bring her along. She likes auto shop? Take her out to the garage. Even if she doesnât, teach her how to do a basic oil change, how to change a tire. Teach her how to do things for herself and that she is fully capable of doing it. Donât divide your kids into gender roles, see them as people.
you have bewitched me, body and soul, and i love, i love, i love you, and i never wish to be parted from you from this day on.
So, what do you recommend to encourage affection? Dancing. Even if oneâs partner is barely tolerable.

What a shame, for I dearly love to laugh.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY AS ELIZABETH BENNET | PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2005) (dir. Joe Wright)
all right. so. this is a Harry Potter AU, in rambly and abbreviated form.
this is a version of events where, on the morning of November 1st, 1981, the police are called to a house in Surrey.
when they arrive, a large man with a red face and a moustache is waiting for them, brandishing a baby.
to be more accurate: he is brandishing a basket. the basket contains a baby.
he tells the police that his wife found the basket on their doorstep that morning. âGave her the shock of her life,â he says, with a chuckle that does not seem the least bit sincere.
the police officers have a lot of questions about this, but the man does not have any useful answers. his wife, he tells them, is not in any shape to be interviewed. âsheâs been poorly,â he says, âand weâve got a baby of our own to worry about, keeping us up at all hours.â
the baby in the basket seems to be about a year old. he is cheerful, seems healthy aside from a cut on his forehead, with a crooked sticking plaster on it. he has startlingly green eyes.
there is no identifying information in the basket, except for a torn scrap of paper with âhis name is Harryâ on it in a delicate hand.
there is nothing else to be done, it seems. the officers take baby Harry, and leave.
one of them comes back a few days later for a follow-up interview with the woman who found the baby. she seems a little fragile, and her own baby, in the next room, keeps up a constant shrieking tantrum the whole time the officer is there. âIâm sorry,â the woman says, with a brittle smile. âthis has all been a bit much. I recently lost my sister, you see.â
