I wanted to make a rough drawing for May the 4th, but I just can't seem to draw armor in a simple way. So of course, I'm late this year again.

I started with a rough style for Sev and ended up with a cleaner one for Boss. In the end, I had to rework the characters several times so they would all look consistent.

I used Magic Poser Web to make the reference for the whole drawing. I initially planned a more classic back view of the characters, but while experimenting with the tool, I ended up liking the top view better.

For Mird, I used this nice walking dog 3D model to help with the anatomy (along with some Shar Pei references). I reused my previous design I made for it, but this time I fixed the legs so it has four back legs instead of four front ones. I tried several poses for the front leg and ended up choosing the one that felt the most dynamic. I'm pretty proud of the result.

I drew the gdans based on these concept sketches I made a while ago. I wish I could've drawn more, but drawing so many creatures close to each other is super tough. Here's a better view:

For the background, I experimented a bit and I made the base in 3D using a game called FlowScape, then painted over it. It's pretty neat! Here's the image I came up with:

I even made a version with a giant suricate to help me position the camera. 😂

I'd planned a nice RepComm drawing for May the 4th, but as usual, I draw slowly… So, in the meantime, I hope you'll enjoy these concept sketches of gdans! They're based on the one I drew here.

I wanted to draw something with a fish for April 1st… and things got out of hand. 🐟

I made the first rough in 2020, it's based on a species I created forever ago. Second rough is the 2025 refined version, with the fish.

Sketchy lines below (yes, they are sketchy to me). I only realized after I finished the drawing that the right front leg looked a bit wrong, so I fixed it with some extra painting.

For the fish, I shamefully traced over photos because I didn't have time to try to get the anatomy of so many fish right. I used this amazing brush for the scales (on the drake too).

I don't really have any headcanons, for anything. I just try to work with what exists and go with it. So, to answer your question, I've never really thought about it. Overall, their abilities seem overkill, based on what little we know about Qiilura.

Some birdie speedpaint to start the year. That would be my boy Taegan. He's been on my mind for years, but it's the first proper drawing I've done of him. Very random, too.

Spar, from chapter 30 of Restless. In this scene, he is what I'd call “un gros lourd” in French, but I've read someone who gave an English equivalent as “an annoying pest”, and I think it fits ah ah. I love this chapter.

I know it will sound like a poor excuse, but I bought myself a very good book on anatomy a few months ago, and I though this scene in the fic would be perfect to practice. I was a little worried about the angle at which I could draw this without giving the impression that it's meant to be explicit. Eventually I found a reference photo which I think looked good and started from here.

I probably made several anatomical mistakes, but I did my best. 🥲

It was about time I drew the man. I designed his armor using various references and my imagination, I just didn't want it to look like Jango's armor in black. I've got a soft spot for scarves, so I gave him one. For Mird I tried the stay close to my original concepts of it, but with more skin and color on its coat. And I added a collar too, because it's mentioned it has one in True Colors (and also in Triple Zero, indirectly). I'm still not sure about the size of a strill, but since Vau keeps scooping Mird up in his arms, I don't think it can be bigger than that. Also, I think a beskad is supposed to be shorter, but I liked it like this so... artistic liberty, I guess.

I decided to make the pose with one of my little men and to trace over it. For Mird I used a Shar Pei 3D model to help me with the perspective.
