Another thing i really liked about The Golden Enclaves was that there was no big bad at the end, there was no evil wizard trying to destroy the enclaves just because. It was just people with all the good intentions in the world, people who thought this was the right path for the future and for their children, that was all

I liked that the gray morality that characterized the last two books extended even to Ophelia, that she wasn't power-hungry or sadist or evil. I liked that Li Shanfeng believed in El to the very end, even when he had no guarantees, no certainties, even when Ophelia's method would've been easier at the short run. I liked that Deepthi had to believe this was the best future, that all this suffering and this pain wasn't for nothing.

95% of people aren't cartoonish villains, they're just people who thought they were making the right choice, and Novik really reflected that in the trilogy
