It was Neth talking to you, take care :]
Hi theeeere!
My life has been kinda hectic lately?? I'll try to come back with Facts soon, and I really can't wait to start Mélomanie (148 I love Seungmin) but it might still take some time...
I'll never forget this account, and I hope you won't either by the time I really do come back!
See you soon ;)
It was Neth talking to you, take care :]
Still alive (or am I really?)
I have to say that I'm really sorry I disappeared (again), but college took away all my energy and motivation
I'll try my best to update either Facts or Mélomanie as soon as possible, because I don't want to leave them like this for any longer, and I still have so many project to go through, I have to do something...

Today was one of those days where your lungs decided to annoy you. You had a terrible night, unable to sleep due to the lack of air coming in, and you had to keep the breathing assistance for half of your morning. You might be used to it but it was still a complete nuisance. You hated having to count on the help of a machine to do such a thing as breathing – it was supposed to be easy, a thing you do without thinking, but your lungs apparently didn’t have the memo.
Even walking was too difficult, so much that your roommate had to carry you to the couch – lucky for you, he’s strong enough to do it without much of a struggle – and bring things to you when he woke up so you wouldn’t tire yourself unnecessarily. You told him that it was going to be ok if you rested for the rest of the morning, that he didn’t have to cancel his plans for the day to take care of you, it wouldn’t last anyway. So, he left to do what he was supposed to with his friends, and you stayed on your couch, observing your blurry reflect on the black screen of the TV.
You were supposed to join Jungkook for lunch, but your situation made it unreasonable for you to go. You sent him a quick text resuming your little issue, asking if it wouldn’t bother him to reschedule instead, to which he responded quickly that he understood and that you should indeed rest.
And that’s what you did.
Once your breathing has stabilized, the lack of sleep couldn’t be ignored anymore and you started dozing off. It’s a knock on your front door that woke you up, maybe an hour after you left for Morpheus’ kingdom. You wanted to stay on your couch for a moment longer, but your instinct told you to gather your strength and answer the door.
“Hello Noona!” Jungkook happily greeted you as soon as your eyes met. You weren’t exactly surprised to see him here; you should have expected it when you cancelled your plans that it wouldn’t be his last word.
“You’re unbelievable” is the only thing you said before you opened the door wider so he could enter.
Giggling, he made his way to the kitchen. “But you love me nonetheless.”
“Unfortunately,” you snorted while closing the door. It’s only then that you noticed the bags he previously had in his hands, now put on the kitchen table. “What’s that?” you curiously asked pointing at them.
“I didn’t know what you have on your fridge so I bought what to make us some kimchi bokkeumbap,” he casually announce, not even looking up at you while taking everything out of the bags.
You knew arguing with him would be pointless, so you sighed in surrender, maybe not woken enough to fight back at the moment. “Don’t worry,” he started when you didn’t answer, “I’ll cook by myself. Go back to sleep or whatever you were doing before and I’ll call you when it’s ready, okay?”
After a while of evaluating the pros and cons, watching Jungkook’s smile he gave you, you silently nodded and went back on the couch. You closed your eyes for a few seconds, only to open them again at the sweet smell of your favorite dish.
“Come on sleepyhead, it’s time to eat!” was the first thing you heard after you woke up for the fifth time today. The second thing your heard was Jungkook’s laugh – a small one with a bit of awkwardness in it. “I thought it would take longer to cook. Sorry I have to wake you up that early.”
It didn’t surprise you to see everything already set on the kitchen table once you stood up, and you thanked him for doing this.
“Don’t you dare tell me I didn’t have to, Noona,” Jungkook cut you off before you even had the time to open your mouth, reading you like an open book.
You sighed, sitting in front of your bowl. “But you truly didn’t have to, buddy.”
“Tch, and letting you alone when you could be in a life-threatening situation? No way.” His voice was serious, not leaving place for an argument.
♠♥♣♦
After that, the conversation got lighter. You asked him about his week, about his friends, and he did the same, also wanting to know how your aunt was doing. You ate your kimchi bokkeumbap in peace – or almost in peace, because the two of you were near to chocking with rice because of a lame joke Jungkook did.
Once you finished eating, and because it was now a tradition every time Jungkook went to your dorm, you settled on the couch and decided to watch a movie on the tv. As always, it took you two some time to choose the movie, finding pros and cons to every proposition there were, until Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper appeared on the screen.
Together, you spent the whole movie lip-syncing almost every scene, singing all the songs and mocking the sometime poor scenario, dialogs, and animation. You were reminiscing your childhood, when Junghyun, Jungkook and you were spending afternoons and weekends watching silly children movies together.
You sometimes miss these simpler times, when it was the Jeons and you against the rest of the world, living peacefully without a stupid lung disease to screw everything up. It was nice days you spent with them, going to the playground together, watching movies, drawing… Drawing!
“I just remember something I need to show you!” you suddenly exclaimed with a wide smile, standing up from the couch quickly.
Jungkook looked up at you confused by your unexpected excitement. “What’s that?”
“Move your ass and you’ll see,” you playfully said, taking him by the arm to make him stand him more rapidly.
“You’re scaring me right now, Noona,” he laughed. You gently punched him in the arm, whining. The way to your bedroom wasn’t too long – the dorms being rather small – and as soon as you opened its door, a few old drawings were seen pinned on your foam above your desk.
You let Jungkook’s arm go to proudly show the drawings to him. “Aunty found them not long ago and thought it would be nice if I had them, so I took them here last weekend.” You took one of the drawings out of its pin for your friend, who was now sitting on the side of your bed, so he could see it more clearly. “Here, look at this one!”
After a quick look at the drawing, Jungkook started to laugh hysterically. “Is this supposed to be us?” You joined him in his laughter, because the drawing was as terrible as a three-years-old Jungkook could make.
“You’ve always been into abstract as it seems.”
“This is absolutely terrible!” he stood up to put the drawing back in the foam board and stopped in his track when his eyes fell on something on your desk. “Hey, Noona?”
“Yep?” you exhaled while you lied down on your bed.
“Can I ask you a question?” his back was still facing you, but you didn’t mind.
You looked up at him and questioned him with a raised eyebrow. “You just did, but please, go on?”
He slowly turned so he could face you, a note you recognized on sight in between his fingers. “Is that the mysterious friend you talk to?”
“No. This, buddy, is in fact a piece of paper,” you casually joked. You weren’t one with a particular sense of humor – not like you couldn’t understand when other people would make puns and all, but it felt sometimes forced when you tried to make a joke – however you somehow got more natural at it the more you texted said mysterious friend. “Okay, okay,” you finally said when you started to feel threatened by his look, “The phone number written on the piece of paper is indeed my friend’s number. Why?”
“You texted a random number like that?” he almost screamed. “It could have been a scam! A murderer! Or worse, a sexual predator!!” His doe eyes were wider than usual – if that was even possible.
You sat up, now more serious than before. “I understand your concern, Kook, I thought about it too. I’m not dead yet though, so everything’s fine, no?”
“Still! You never know what to expect with strangers!”
Last time you mentioned this mysterious friend, Jungkook didn’t reacted that way even knowing it was only through text, so seeing him like that now surprised and confused you. “Yah! It’s not like I sent them my credit card number or home address,” you scoffed.
“Yeah, you better not!”
You silently sighted, giving Jungkook a small and content smile. “Don’t worry Kookie, really. They’ve been nothing but really nice to me. And I already told you we didn’t share any information about ourselves.”
He looked at you with wide eyes. “They answered you?”
You couldn’t help but laugh at the obvious. “Well, yeah!” You sat up. “How else would I been able to talk to them otherwise?”
He said something you couldn’t quite understand, so – not sure this “bastard” you heard wasn’t just your imagination – you asked him to repeat himself.
“What? Oh, nothing! It was nothing,” he stuttered with an awkward smile. He quickly cleared his throat to add “Tell me if he– if they do something weird or if you want to get rid of them, okay?”
“I will,” you assured him sincerely, “but I’m sure they won’t cause any trouble.”You paused for a second, biting your lips, before you went on with your thoughts. “To be honest, I hesitated a lot at the beginning, you know how I am with strangers,” you added with a light scoff, “but my roommate told me a lot of people got the same note so I knew it was a kind of prank, nothing too harmful, I guess.” You sent him a glance to see if he was still focused, and to your great surprise, Jungkook was listening to you with an unusual attention. “So I sent a text. Apparently, I’m the only one they texted back. We didn’t ask each other anything about our identity, I know a few things about them but I don’t know who they are. But I like talking to them, I feel like I’m not judged behind. It’s enjoyable.”
It was silent for a moment after your small monologue, as Jungkook was processing all you said. “… I understand. I’m sorry for reacting that way.” He gently smiled at you, taking your hand in his.“Thank you for telling me how you feel.”
You mirrored his smile and then shrugged. “And you know, they asked me why I did it too, and they told me they could have been a bad person as well,” you laughed, founding it funny how your two friends had the same train of thoughts there.
“What did you send them anyway? If you’re the only one they texted back, there might be a good reason, right?” he asked while sitting next to you, the number still in his other hand.
You pinched your lips together in a line before answering his question in a wince. “Would you believe me if I told you I sent a fact about the Girl with the Pearl Earring?”
“Of course you would do that.” He lightheartedly laughed at this new piece of information. Everybody in your close surrounding knew your love for this tronie, and Vermeer’s work in general. When you discovered this painting, you fell in love hard with it and went to the Jeons’ house a minute after – this is how Junghyun established Pearl as your special nickname.
“And... I don’t regret it,” you added. “I feel like Life is going easier on me since I started to talk to them. I’m finally letting people in, as scary as it sounds.” You put your head on Jungkook’s shoulder, feeling much better now that you said all of it. This wasn’t where you imagined showing him old drawing would lead, but you were glad it went that way because you didn’t realize how much you needed to talk about your mysterious friend to someone. Of course, your roommate knew bits of what was happening as he saw the change in your mood rather quickly, but it was different with your childhood friend.
He looked at you with fond eyes, but you didn’t notice with how you were sitting. “I’m proud of you, you know that?” he smiled. “Junghyun would be too.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, out of a bit of nervosity perhaps – still not used to receive such praise. “I’m not ready to get emotional over this, god.”
“Okay, let’s not continue then,” he mirrored your laugh. “Do you want to watch another Barbie movie?”
Your lips expended in a wide smile and you stood up without wasting any second. “I can’t express enough how much I love you, buddy.”
♠♥♣♦
A few minutes later, the two of you were already back on the couch with a bunch of snacks Jungkook forgot he bought when he ran errands for the kimbap, and of course, Barbie as Rapunzel in front of you. You shared good laughs once again, cringing from time to time in front of this masterpiece just like you did earlier at the first round, both forgetting about the rest of the world during these simple moments.
As soon as the movie ended, Jungkook thought that putting Barbie as the Island Princess right away was a good idea. The thing was that he was already falling asleep even if it wasn’t that late. It was probably the unhealthy amount of snacks he ate that put him in this sleepy state. You laughed at him for that, but scolded him for not showing respect to this chef-d'oeuvre nonetheless.
However, you couldn’t say no to the cuddle it gave you, and you embraced your proximity, stroking his hair gently with your fingers.
Jungkook was a blessing in disguise since the day you went to your parents’. He was the unexpected shake you needed to come back to life, for real this time. He did so much for in a so short period of time, and you weren’t even sure he understood the impact he had on you.
Seeing him that peaceful could only sooth you.
Your sleep schedule has been messed up in the matter of a day, but you didn’t mind – it’s not like you were that much strict over it anyway, and it wasn’t something your lungs really care about either. Besides, the calmness of your dorm after such a noisy afternoon was enjoyable.
So, it wasn’t surprising that you fell asleep quite easily at the end of the movie, your hand not leaving your friend’s hair, a gentle smile on your lips. Nothing could disturb this tender state you two were in.
Or nothing could have disturbed you if you didn’t forget to let your roommate know that Jungkook was coming over when you were supposed to be out for the day as well. Which led to the front door opening, a muttered “shit” from your roommate followed by a “what the fuck?” you couldn’t hear from dreamland.

Hi everyone! I won’t say that I’m back for sure, but I’m here at least today with the chapter which took me way too long to write than it should have…
College is awful, so it has been hard to focus on Facts for a moment. Chapter 16 will be there soon but I can’t promise anything for the rest. However, thanks for reading the chapter after I disappeared for too long, I’ll try my best to update quickly than what it took me between Chap 14 & 15.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and feel free to guess who OC’s roommate is!
It was Neth talking to you, take care :]
hiii!
little update because it's been a while: i've been kinda overwhelmed so far with uni, but the things that took me the most time are almost over, so i can only hope to be back soon with facts!
(i always struggle the most with written chapters, so chap 15 is tricky~ it's not a very long chapter but it's still important and it's giving me a hard time, but we're getting there!)
maybe i'll also try to work on other smaller fics (like drabbles or one part smau) in the meantime, i don't like it when i don't post for too long
anyway, it was Neth talking to you, take care :]

♠♥♣♦
KIM SEUNGMIN: September 22nd, 2000. Best student since primary school, Seungmin is studying laws to becomes a prosecutor. It’s mostly his parent wish, but he dreamt about it once so he keeps this goal in mind. However, he also takes a few photography classes on the side, wanting to be a photographer more and more. He moved into YN’s and Wooyoung’s apartment building as a substitute of his dorm at the campus after they became unlivable after some technical difficulties.
HAN JISUNG: September 14th, 2000. Seungmin and Jisung know each other from middle school, being in the same class for a year, and are best friends since then. They don’t have many hobbies in common but went in a music club together in high school which gave him the motivation to become a producer. It doesn’t matter if Seungmin and him don’t always talk – they can spend days without texting each other – but in the end they’re always the first one ready to do anything for the other one. You can call them platonic soulmates, or brothers from another mother.
LEE FELIX: September 15th, 2000. Straight from Australia, Felix happened to be in the same class as Seungmin and Jisung in high school and they helped him to fit in. The three of them are now the Platinum Trio (because golden is not good enough for them). Felix is studying dance in the same college Jisung goes to and works part time in a bakery.
BANG CHAN: October 3rd, 1997. He’s the one who created the music club and met Seungmin and Jisung there. Chan considers Seungmin like a little brother and takes great care of him, and he mentors Jisung with music. He already got a job at JYPE – a growing music company – as a producer and also published a few EPs on soundcloud. Chan and the Platinum Trio formed their friend group “SKZ” back in high school.
SEO CHANGBIN: August 11th, 1999. He met Chan through soundcloud – being himself a rapper sharing his songs there – not knowing that they were in fact dorm neighbors at university. Chan introduced him to the rest of SKZ a few months ago and Changbin clicked with the others quite easily. He’s helping Jisung with his music studies and motivates Seungmin to focus on photography instead of laws. Secretly super wealthy.
LEE MINHO: October 25th, 1998. Minho works full time at the Double Knot but doesn’t share many shifts with YN. He also helps at a local animal shelter whenever he has the time. He found his place in SKZ thanks to Jisung, who he met at the Double Knot and soon became his boyfriend, under the suspicious gaze of Seungmin who only wants to protect his best friend from a heartbreak. However, the two of them are starting to grow fond of each other.
YANG JEONGIN: February 8th, 2001. Nobody really knows how Jeongin got into SKZ but he appeared one day and stayed without anyone commenting on it. Everyone loves him nonetheless. He’s studying to become a teacher and does a lot of babysitting too. He doesn’t talk much but every time he does it either to say the stupidest thing ever or to say something super clever, there’s no in between. Jeongin and Beomgyu are best friends, and they already met a few of their own group of friends but never all together.
HWANG HYUNJIN: March 20th, 2000. Fine arts student, Hyunjin knows Seungmin from the extra photography classes they share. He isn’t a part of SKZ yet, but Seungmin thinks about introducing him to his friends as he likes him a lot and thinks he would fit perfectly. Hyunjin also met Felix at the flower shop he works at alongside Soobin and already went to a few dates together.
+ SEUNGMIN’s PRIVATE: Seungmin uses his private account mostly to post some of his pictures - his favorite ones-, but he also complains about his life there from times to times. Or to fanboy over DAY6.

YLN YN: October 18th, 2000. Due to a lack of financial stability after the loss of her mother, YN dropped out of school after she graduated from high school to work. She lives alone in a cheap apartment building, not far from her two jobs. She works at night at a bar and at a convenience store. Outside of work, she takes free online classes in hope of finding better jobs later. She has a small group of friends she loves deeply and tries to spend as much time with them as possible despite their different schedules.
CHOI YEONJUN: September 13th, 1999. He is YN’s cousin but they only started to really spend time together when he became a regular at the Double Knot. They are now very close and care a lot about each other. She’s also friend with his friends thanks to him and they hang out whenever they can. He’s studying fashion and hopes to start his own brand of clothes one day.
CHOI SOOBIN: December 5th, 2000. Soobin knows YN from high school but they became friends when Yeonjun introduced his cousin to the rest of his friends. They quickly became best friends and hangs out together alone often – outsiders could easily mistake them for a couple. Soobin works in a flower shop, lives with Yeonjun and his hedgehog Odi, and wants to open a flower-book-coffee shop in the future.
CHOI BEOMGYU: March 13th, 2001. Friend with Yeonjun since high school, Beomgyu is now in his second year of college studying music. He doesn’t really know what he wants to do later, but he knows for sure it has to do with music. He isn’t one to particularly enjoy crowded places but he wouldn’t miss a chance to go to the Double Knot if it allowed him to see YN.
KANG TAEHYUN: February 5th, 2002.Unlike the rest of the group, Taehyun met Yeonjun outside of school, in a skatepark they hung out at a lot a few years ago. Their shared passions for skateboard and music got them closer despite their age gap. Taehyun is now in business studies with a few extra music classes, inspiring to have his own music company later.
HUENING KAI: August 14th, 2002. He met the others thanks to Taehyun (read: he forced Tyun to introduce the others to him because he was sick of listening to his best friend talk about them all the time). YN soon became his favorite person when she won him a plushie at the funfair the day they met. Wanting to work in a healthcare center, Kai is taking classes at a nursery school.
JUNG WOOYOUNG: November 26th, 1999. Wooyoung moved in the apartment building YN lives at a few months after her, and they instantly clicked when they first met. Turns out he is also friend with Yeonjun and the three of them sometimes do movie marathons at one’s place. Wooyoung comes to the Double Knot often to make sure YN doesn’t overwork herself and to scare mean costumers off.
CHOI ODI: July 10th, 2022. Odi the hedgehog is the mascot of the friend group “5 Idiots & 1 braincell”. The Twitter account is run by Soobin and Yeonjun and most of the tweets are about how Odi is the one who rules in the Choi household. He’s becoming more and more famous through the weeks and a few tweets already went viral – to the delight of his fathers.
+ YN’s PRIVATE: She uses it mostly to talk about her late mother but she also tweets about other little bothers. Only Soobin has it (and he’s the one who suggested the header).

It was a first for you to go to someone else’s dorm, and to say you were nervous would be an understatement. Even if you could imagine the dorms being like yours, you would be alone with people you barely knew and that was the bigger issue. You didn’t mind going there, though: it was easier for everyone and closer to your own dorm than the library, and you could save energy rather than walking and climbing too many stairs.
But going to their dorm also meant that you would have to face them, and to face him more particularly. You three would be working on the project, but you knew somehow that today was the day when you will to talk to Namjoon – you needed to do it quick, it was necessary.
You first met him in high school, not so long after you left with your aunt. You just lost your best friends and you were surrounded by people you never saw before, it was overwhelming. You had never been lonelier in your life, and this sudden loneliness was painful, but you could only think of Junghyung who must be hurt because of your abrupt disappearance. You couldn’t let anyone get close to you like that again, it would only bring pain on both side and you couldn’t take it. So, you shut everyone away, thinking it would be for the best.
You got accustomed to this life you decided to have, with only your aunt and the people at the hospital. No string attached to anyone meaning less struggle with your disease, meaning more time to study, it was enough to get you to the little college you wanted to go to. Only, your aunt’s apartment was a bit too far and you would have had to put more time and effort into actually going there, and the best solution was to live on the campus.
Finding a roommate wasn’t as hard as you thought, however, living with one was another story. The first one you had was nice, angel-like in her look and behavior, and things were good between the two of you but she quitted college after 3 months. When you thought that you would have to live alone for the rest of the year, a guy happened to be looking for a roommate. You were desperate enough to let him join your dorm: a decision you still regretted two years after. He was gross, disrespectful, and he started out the rumors about you for no particular reason.
Fortunately, it turned out that you found the perfect roommate a year later. Coming from far away, he happened to be all you could wish for someone who lives with you, and even though you were still repulsed and traumatized from your last experience, you two matched right away and he managed to ease all your worries in no time. He never forced you into anything and understood your concerns. Until Jungkook came back in your life, he was your first and only college friend.
For a year and a half, it was only you, your aunt, people at the hospital and him. Then, your childhood best friend’s brother made his way into your little routine and you knew meeting his friends would only be a matter of time. Your condition was slightly better, you weren’t on the verge of death every two weeks like you once were but being near new people still scared you. You already let too many people get close to you, having more would be too hurtful once they will be gone.
But for now, you were on your way to work with people who will take a bigger place in your life than intended if you actually end up hanging out with them for Jungkook. The thought was intimidating, but at the same time you wouldn’t be with total strangers for the two of them as you three share a few classes together and you have an actual group project to make as a team.
Your train of thoughts was interrupted by Hoseok happily shouting your name, who was waiting for you outside of their dorm building, with a smile so bright it made you believe in the possible friendship between you for a second. You shyly wave at him, slightly quickening your pace without realizing it.
“Heeyyy!” he greeted you with enthusiasm. “Feeling good today?” You nodded, and before you had the time to ask how he was doing, he continued. “I hope you really don’t mind going to our dorm to work, I figured out that we would be less distracted than somewhere else, you know?”
“Don’t worry Hoseok, it’s fine with me.” You two started to walk towards the entry of the building and you couldn’t help but ask: “Is it ok with Namjoon? For me to be at your dorm I mean. I know he doesn’t like me very much.”
He seemed to hesitate on his answer. “All I can say is that if he bothers you, I’ll put some sense back into his brain.”
You giggled at his sudden confidence, already feeling a bit better. However, you had to add “I’m sorry you have to deal with this.”
Hoseok called the elevator and looked at you, curious. “Don’t be, it’s not your fault.”
You weren’t sure whether you should or shouldn’t answer – you intended on apologizing to Namjoon later, were you supposed to tell Hoseok about it? You would have to explain everything ether way, it could happen now and it would be easier later on, and–
“You’re not coming?” Hoseok’s voice brought you back to reality and you could see him already inside the elevator, holding the door for you with a concerned look on his face. “Or would you rather take the stairs?” After a second to process everything, you rushed inside the elevator, apologizing for zoning out.
♠♥♣♦
You needed to talk to Namjoon, but the moment never seemed right. You’ve been working on the project for an hour now and you felt the nervousness growing inside you at every second tickling on the decorative clock on the wall. You did your best to regulate your breathing, not wanting to show your anxiety to your teammate, but it only made you unfocussed on your work.
Namjoon seemed to notice, as he sighed deeply after a quick look at you.
“We can shorten our day if you’re not feeling well, you know?” You raised your head to see Hoseok giving you the same look then earlier at the elevator, and it reminded you of Jungkook always making sure that everything was fine. You could really see why your best friend was so found of him: if your classmate could show genuine worry about someone he barely knows, how kind was he with the people he loves?
“No, no, I’m fine.” You breathed out, putting down your pen. “I’m sorry.”
“For making us lose our precious time? Yeah, you should,” Namjoon attacked in the second, which led to Hoseok hitting him from under the table.
“Please, Namjoon, don’t make it harder than it already is,” you surprised yourself by your sudden confidence. You closed your eyes for a moment, listening to your increased heartbeat before locking your eyes with his. It was now or never. “I’m sorry, for what I’ve done to you.” You straightened in your seat. “I never thought it would make things like… that. I never wanted them to be like that.”
He seemed surprised by your unexpected confession, not thinking you would ever talk about it, especially not when Hoseok was right next to him.
“We met when I just lost people I thought would be with me forever, and it wasn’t a fun time for me,” you continued, having acquired a whole new kind of courage. “Things were happening at that time and it was really hard for me. I know it doesn’t excuse my behavior towards you in any ways, but you came to me when I promised myself not to let anyone get near me anymore only to avoid being hurt in the future.” You looked down, sighing at the thought of all the regrets following you now. “I didn’t realize back then that what I told you was harsh. I shouldn’t have reacted that way and pushed you away, and I’m sorry.”
You weren’t expecting him to accept your apology, you only wanted to let him know your side of the story, but the silence that was now in the leaving room was deafening, to the point that it felt like the tickling sound of the clock an inch away from your ears.
“But you did it again,” Namjoon finally spoke after some time. You couldn’t find bitterness in his voice, it was rather unsure.
You shamefully nodded. “I know I did. I wasn’t any better.” It took you a few seconds to managed to actually continue. “Things weren’t easier at home – for me – and it was more of a protecting you rather than protecting me situation this time.”
“How come?” At this point, you two had completely forgot about Hoseok who was staring at you both trying to process everything.
Should you tell them? Would he understand? Will they ask more questions about it? You looked away, now focusing on your fingers. “I… I was extremely sick at that time,” you finally admitted – what was the point to lie anyway? “Letting you get close to me would have you getting hurt because of me, if my condition took me away, and I couldn’t bear that thought.”
It was silent again, until Namjoon asked why. “Because,” you began, locking eyes with him again, “because you’re so good, so caring. You don’t deserve to get hurt like that.”
“I’m not that good,” he replied in a breath. How could you be so nice in your words after he acted poorly around you for the past years?
“Yes you are!” you almost shouted, offended by his comment. “I can see how you take care of your friends, how you help your classmates in need just because you saw them struggling, and the tutoring sessions you started. I already knew back then that you have a pure heart, it’s so easy to read into you!”
“I don’t understand how you can say that with how I treated you,” he added, dumbfounded.
“Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. I made a lot.” Your voice was softer, close to a whisper. You cleared your throat when the room fell silent again. “I kept the note you gave me in first year, I don’t know if you rememb–”
“You did?” he was obviously surprised, looking at you with wide eyes.
You shrugged, biting nervously your lower lip before answering. “Of course I did, it was the nicest thing I’ve ever read, and.. the face next to it is funny.”
He was now smiling broadly, and knowing this smile was thanks to what you said to him made all your worries disappear. You could feel the weight on your shoulders vanishing and you started to breath more easily. You said all you needed to say, you didn’t break, and he listened to you. A small smile appeared on your lips as well.
“Thank you for listening to me.”
He shook his head and stated in a more serious tone “Thank you for telling me your side of the story, I appreciate the apology.” He paused for a second. “I’m sorry too.”
“It’s okay, I would’ve been mad at me too if I were you,” you acknowledged with a shy smile. Was it true? You didn’t know, but it didn’t matter. At least, things would be all right between Namjoon and you from now on, and that was the only thing that mattered. It was a little step closer to Jungkook’s wish for you to be comfortable around his friends, and to say you were proud of yourself for having the courage to do it would be an understatement.
Hoseok came back in the living room with a huge smile plastered on his face and a tray with three mugs on it. You didn’t even notice him leaving in the first place, too focused on your apologies, and you suddenly felt bad. “Does that mean that we’ll finally have the good vibes to make the greatest presentation Hwan is ever gonna see?” he happily asked.
“I think it does,” Namjoon answered, imitating his friend’s smile.
“I made us some hot chocolate while you two were talking,” Hoseok announced while giving you a F.R.I.E.N.D.S mug. “If you don’t want to drink just leave it, don’t force yourself.”
You thanked him, taking the mug gently in your hands. “I’m sorry you had to go through that, I should have wait for us to finish working for today befo–”
“Hey, you needed to let it out, right?” he cut you, never losing his friendly smile. You nodded, looking at your mug of hot chocolate, and he continued with a soft voice. “Don’t apologize for this, it was important to you and you were right to do it. And, you know, the sooner the better!”
You silently agreed and after a bit of talking, you three went back to the original reason of your presence in their dorm, which was to work on the project.
The atmosphere was now much brighter than before, lighthearted even, and the ideas on how to present the final product were pouring. Now that this communication issue has been resolved, it was nice to work as a team. You managed to actually get more work done than during the last meetings you had reunited in a matter of three hours. Only, you were growing more and more tired as time passed by and your social battery was about to die and Hoseok might have read noticed because he decided to call it a day.
♠♥♣♦
Once you were back to your dorm, you fell instantly on your bed and slept until your roommate knocked on your bedroom door to make sure you ate. After emerging from your slumber, you two shared dinner together while talking about your day.
Because of your little-not-so-little nap you took earlier, you weren’t tired, and luckily enough for you, your roommate wasn’t tired either. So, the two of you decided to spend the evening watching a documentary about lizards that was on TV at the moment, and you obviously noted a few elements so you could send them later to your precious new friend.
You headed back to your bedroom when the documentary ended, getting ready to have a proper night, and you texted Jungkook to sum up your afternoon at his friends’ dorm, expressing how much better you felt now that things would be easier between Namjoon and you. He answered in the next minute, saying that the boys already talked about it in their group chats and how happy he was to know that too.
You fell asleep with a smile on your face, feeling the courage and the force to let your best friend’s friends take a bigger place in your life building up inside you.

The afternoon started out great: you had no more classes to catch up on, the only homework left was the Hwan project you had to work on with your teammates, and your roommate wasn’t in the dorm for the day, which was perfect for a peaceful study session. Your music has just the vibe you were looking for to work and you were absolutely into the subject you were looking through.
However, your plans changed the second you heard the special notification sound you put on your discussion with Jungkook. You took your phone and smiled at his text asking if he could come annoy you and you couldn’t say no to him.
To say you were glad he came back in your life was an understatement; seeing him at your parents after so long made you realize how much you were craving for someone you could hangout with like nothing were wrong with you. Because, as much as you love your roommate, you didn’t do much together outside of these walls.
To you, Jungkook was the best person that could take this place. The best friend’s younger sibling turning into a brother for you and the best friend itself.
You two have been hanging out for around a month already and you could say it was the greatest month you had in a while. From time to time, Jungkook and you would eat together during lunch break, or he would come at your dorm for a movie n’ pizza night, and you even spent an afternoon at your aunt’s with him – your aunt being very much thrilled to see you having fun with someone about your age – video calling Junghyun.
Talking to him has been a tough time, you couldn’t deny it, but knowing everything was going well with his life afar helped you to turn the page you wanted to read over and over again like the first time. You fancied every of the paragraphs in this page, and you hold onto them for a long time but it was time to move forward.
A lot had been sorted out during this video call.
“I didn’t understand why you left at that time,” he confessed after you told him the whole story. “We were always together, so having to go through my days without you felt like hell.”
“I could hear Hyung crying himself to sleep every night for at least a week,” Jungkook started to laugh, to the great desperation of his brother who tried to defend himself.
Of course, you couldn’t help but laugh as well, yet felt guilty for being the cause of his tears. “I would give everything to go back in time and say proper goodbyes.”
His smile, even if you could only see it from the screen of Jungkook’s phone, was the sweetest. It always has been. “You couldn’t do anything about it, it’s okay Pearl.” You missed hearing this name coming from his lips. Pearl. He was the only one allowed to call you that way.
“I know, but I left you two like a thief, it doesn’t feel right.”
He shook his head, sighing. “And you shouldn’t live in the past like that, it’s not like you left forever! You have Jungkook-ah with you now, and I’ll make sure he takes good care of you, okay?”
You sighed in surrender and a smirk appeared on your lips. “You know I took your place as the favorite one? He told everyone, on Twitter!!” You started to tease him with your eyebrow when he started to scream, having Jungkook dying in laughter. “You owe me an album now.”
♠♥♣♦
Before Jungkook could arrive at your dorm, you made sure everything was alright to welcome him properly. You and your roommate weren’t messy but it was always better to be sure.
It wasn’t the first time he would meet you almost unannounced, but these unexpected moments you spent together were the bests. You would talk about everything and nothing, or wouldn’t talk at all, you would laugh at loud, sometimes cry, silently admire each other, but most of all share glimpses of life you would never forget.
It didn’t take him long to actually be at your dorm, after all you didn’t live too far from each other on the campus. You opened the door to a happy Jungkook holding two bags of takeout food, claiming there weren’t a specific time to eat bibimbap.
“How am I supposed to stay healthy when you literally make me at unconventional times every week?” you jokily complained while he made his way inside your dorm.
He let the food on the kitchen table so he could hug tightly you as soon as his hands were free from the bags. “I know you don’t mind, Noona, I wouldn’t bring some otherwise.”
“Tch, as if you don’t force me.” You could have sounded convincing if you weren’t hugging him back and if Jungkook didn’t knew you. It didn’t take him long to be able to read you like an open book and find any sign of joke or discomfort in your way of talking and being, always making sure you were feeling at your best.
Letting go of you, you could finally see the mischief shining in his eyes and his proud smile, but you tried to keep a neutral face.
“Wanna eat now?” he enthusiastically asked.
Your non-verbal answer made him jump of excitement, taking out the food from the bags to place them on the coffee table. You both sat down on the sofa your roommate had to beg you to get, ready to make an overdose of bibimbap. After a few minutes of enjoying this marvelous dish, Jungkook asked if it was ok to put some background music while eating, which you agreed with a nod and a thumb up, mouth too full to answer.
His favorite playlist now playing on the speaker, he carefully sat back on the sofa and the vibes were just right.
“This is so fucking good, god.” You commented, fully enjoying your meal and your friend’s company.
“Come on,” the latter started with a smirk, “just call me Jungkook.” You could only answer with a hopeless look followed by an eyeroll.
♠♥♣♦
Once the coffee table was clean, you shamelessly fell onto your couch, not wanting to move any more. Jungkook sat next to you, probably in the same state as you were due to all the food you managed to eat in a so short amount of time.
Your friend’s music seemed louder now that neither of you were eating nor saying anything, but it was peaceful. Without you realizing, your foot was following the rhythm of the song that was currently playing, unaware of the deep talk that was coming.
“Noona?”
“Hm?”
“Now that your condition is getting better,” he started slowly, “will you keep the cold persona to push people away?”
You slightly turned your head to look and him and shrugged. “I’m unsure.” You sighed. “I can’t risk letting them get hurt because of me.”
He locked his eyes with yours for a few seconds and continued. “Are you only protecting them?”
You straighten your position and bit your lip, now looking away. “I can’t help being selfish on this one, buddy. I can’t let myself get close to someone if they’re gonna leave me as soon as they learn I might collapse because of my disease.” You shifted again on your couch, this time to be able to see Jungkook without moving your head all the time.
“If people leave you behind after they know you’re sick, they never deserved you. It would be their loss” he stated with the most serious tone you ever heard him use. “But noona,” he continued with a softer voice, “you can’t push everyone away all the time or you’ll be the one losing the opportunity to have friends who won’t leave your side.”
He was right, you knew it, but you couldn’t help it. “Come on, Kook, I’m already the black sheep at the campus,” you grunted, “people won’t hesitate to avoid me like the plague if the ever learn I’m sick.”
“And that would be their fault to be such idiot!” His sudden outburst surprised you and you only started at him, blinking slowly. “I mean, they already are idiots for spreading rumors and gossiping about you but you got the point…”
You keep staring for a moment before shrugging. “The rumors are funny and creatives, not gonna lie,” you silently laughed. “And who doesn’t like to gossip? Even I do that from time to time, you know?”
“Well, I don’t!” You weren’t used to see him so involved in such conversations, you didn’t know if it scared you or amused you at that point. He had his eyebrows frowned, lips pinched, and a will to prove a point. “I can’t stand it when my friends talk about you.”
“But…” you started off hesitantly, “aren’t you friend with Jung Hoseok and Kim Namjoon from some of my classes?” You waited for him to nod to continue. “It’s normal if they talk about me, we kinda spend time together every day.”
He sighed, bit his lower lip thoughtfully, then answered more calmly. “Yeah, I guess it is for them, but the other do that to and I don’t like it.” He stood up to go to the kitchen and you followed him with your eyes while he was getting two glasses of waters for the two of you. “Remember when I told you I fought with them, when we saw each other at your parent’s?” You nodded. “Well, they were talking about you in the group chat we have, after you went to the hospital for a week, and I guess it was one too many times and I snapped.”
He came back on the couch during his little speech, giving you one of the glasses he was holding.
You remembered well when he announced you that he fought with his friends, he didn’t tell you the reason back then and you didn’t ask him either: he was already feeling bad about it and you didn’t want to force him to tell you why. You also remembered how happy he looked when he told you more about them, the way he met Jimin and Taehyung in high school, why they already knew Jin and Hoseok, how thanks to these two they all met Namjoon and Yoongi and how cool it was having to spend time with the six of them in college. He told you the basics of their personalities and how fun they are to be around, and the way they were all caring for him. So, obviously, you were more than surprised to learn that you were the reason he had a fight with them.
“Oh” was all you could say for a moment, staying silent the time for your brain to process everything. “You didn’t have to, you know?” He raised an eyebrow at you. “I mean, it’s not a big deal? And they’re your friends, I’m sure they don’t mean any bad.”
“Why would it be linked?”
“You wouldn’t be friend with bad people, I know you Jungkook.” You smiled at him. “And you told me you want me to meet them, so you believe things can go well between us disregarding the rumors and gossips.”
He took a sip of his glass of water, put it on the coffee table, then shrugged once he was back in the sofa. “You’re my family Noona, I want them to treat you well.”
You melt at the confession, putting your glass on the coffee table as well only to be able to hug him properly. “You’re gonna make me cry, buddy.” You could hear him giggle near your ear and your smile grew bigger. “You’re the best brother I could have asked for, you know that?”
“Of course I know,” he answered without a beat, which earned him a tickle in the ribs. He squealed and this sudden attack and you could help but laugh at his reaction. Before he could try to escape and throw you at the other end of the dorm, you went back to your initial place, trying to regulate your breathing.
You let the excitement and Jungkook’s threats die a little, taking a new sip of water before deciding to add more to the previous conversation. “You have great friends, don’t doubt that.” You were now looking at the ceiling, and he was looking at you. “From what I can see in class, Hoseok and Namjoon are great people.” You turned your head slightly to lock your eyes with his. “Plus, your wish for me to meet your friends is already part fulfil ‘cause, you know, I have a project to do with the two of them for one classe, which means I’ll obviously have to talk to them.”
You sent a text to Jungkook as soon as you learned who would be your teammate that day, happy and nervous at the same time to be with them for the project. He was as happy as you when he got the news.
He was now sitting sideways with his arm on the back of the sofa, a soft smile on his lips. “Are you sure it will be okay? I’m sorry for how Namjoon reacted.”
It would be a lie to say you didn’t know why Namjoon seemed so wary about you, or at least what you though could be the reason why he would act that way. You never wanted to hurt him, but you believed you did, seeing how his face broke down went he heard the news. And even though you were used to those kinds of reactions, to know it was your best friend’s friend who didn’t want to work with you sadden you. You needed to do something about it.
“Yeah, it will be easier now than two months ago, I guess? Thanks to you I improved a bit in talking to other people.” You winked at him with a smile on your face. “And don’t need to apologize, it was weird but it’s gonna be fine.”
“Does that mean you started to talk to people other than your roommate and me?” Jungkook hopefully asked you.
You sat up, scratching your arm, looking away. “About that…”
“Oh my god!” he excitedly shouted, leaning over you like a kid you just promised to buy ice cream for. “You have other friends! What happened to the ‘I don’t want to get close to anybody’ talk you pull earlier? Are you gonna replace me? Why didn’t you tell me about it before? You didn’t want me to know about it? How could you do that to me??”
“Please, Jungkook, breathe!!” you laughed once he finished all his questions. “It’s only one person and it’s through texts, you can calm down!”
His smile was so big and his eyes were so bright, his excitement for knowing you had a friend outside of him made you admire his existence until he started screaming again. “You have to tell me more, Noona!”
“Well, sorry to disappoint you but I can’t.” You saw the confusion on his face and continued before he could ask anything. “It hasn’t been long since we started to talk, and we didn’t share any information about ourselves. I mean, not that kind of information,” you corrected yourself. “It’s more about random texts to get through the day than anything else.”
His eyebrow frowned, he was staring at you like if he was trying to detect any lie in what you said, scanning your soul. You didn’t say anything, only looking at him until he switched back to his happy puppy self in a blink of an eye. “Okay!” he exclaimed, “I’ll believe you for this, but as soon as you have more you have to tell me.”
You rolled your eyes. “I will, don’t worry.”
The rest of the afternoon went on smoothly: you played video games together and you won most of them, tried to pick a movie for half an hour before throwing out the idea to actually watch one, and you listen to him talking about basketball while he was dancing his heart out on a random hip-pop playlist he found. In between, you got a message from your roommate saying he won’t be at the dorm that night either, and you shared another fact about Johannes Vermeer to your new friend.
You felt at home.
