The place the residents called Yesteryear almost reminded them of the City of Tears. Perhaps that was why they were so drawn to it.
It’s quite different, of course; everything is taller, bigger, wider, alien compared to Hallownest, but then again, the first time Ghost had traveled to that drowning city, that had been alien to them. The flickering of the few electric lights still functioning put them in mind of lumaflies, and if they stayed inside and listened to the rain pouring down…everything about the city felt less wrong.
Exploring this ruined place felt like exploring home, and was a way they could learn how these people lived without having to be near all the noise. Today, they’ve been in Yesteryear long enough for the rain to stop, and have been exploring an interesting shop they’ve discovered that apparently used to sell ‘musical instruments’.
Their instincts are still as sharp as they ever were in Hallownest, however, and they’re quick to notice they’re not alone.
A hand goes to their woeful excuse for a weapon as they take a step forward into the light, only to catch sight of a strange creature, somewhat reminiscent of a grub, but very different. They immediately notice the weapon in the creature’s hand, and they let go of their own weapon, holding out their hands in front of them in a gesture of peace. They don’t want to fight, not here.
They stay like that for several moments, empty eyes meeting almost equally dark ones, before they take another two steps forward, hands still outstretched, waiting to see what the creature would do.
She saw Ghost reach for their weapon and she held hers tighter, now able to see them clearer under the blinking light. A small creature of sorts - they looked like a scavenger to her, with the horns and the eyes, though their colours were most unusual for one. Furthermore, the cloak they wore would be out of the norm for scavengers, and their size ... suggested they may have been a child, maybe?
Her brows furrowed, remaining frozen as she looked over the way Ghost held their arms out and shuffled towards them. In a moment of misunderstanding, the slugcat thought them to be asking for something - her spear, a pearl, some other object - and she finally stood up on her hind legs, and-
Threw her spear, aiming to strike at Ghost’s chitin mask.
