I’ve seen an occasional take on fanon!Adrian where they’re the Eridian equivalent of upper-class/an aristocrat, by upbringing. The popular fanon!Adrian physical appearance seems to “fit” with that by human sensibilities — big and tall, a pretty color, assumed to be considered attractive, and often possessing other qualities that fellow Eridians would find favorable.

I think it’d be fun and juicy to flip that around.

What if ROCKY is the Eridian equivalent of minor royalty? It sure would smooth the way for him to get the Eridian people moving fast on helping Grace, if he had that kind of pull/network of connections already in place to call on, by virtue of his pre-hero status. Maybe his position on the Blip-A was even secured via, like, 5% nepotism or something.

It might also be cool to see Rocky’s enthusiastic gushing about Adrian to be less “because Adrian is considered a Catch compared to Rocky” and more “Rocky is used to other people assuming that Rocky ‘married down’ or is ‘slumming it’, and that naturally pisses Rocky right the hell off, so he got in the habit of preemptively bragging on Adrian before anyone can try and make some snide remark”.

And to once again bring in James Ortiz’s headcanon that the late Blip-A crew included some members of Rocky’s family (which could also be partly explained if that was somewhat Because Nepotism) — I think the scenario that fits the situation best in my mind would be if Rocky originally left Erid as like, the 5th or 6th in line to some important position, and then because of the Blip-A crew’s deaths, when he came back to Erid he was 2nd in line behind just one other Eridian — who hadn’t gone on the ship (because of being next in line and therefore not free to risk their life in such a venture).

This would let Rocky call up that person who’s 1st in line and be like “So hey, since I literally saved the planet, if I hypothetically wanted to jump over you in the line of succession and take that important position, *no one* would stop me. I currently have zero interest in doing that, and I see no reason for that to change anytime soon… as long as you throw 1000% of your support & influence & resources into the Save The Alien movement.”

And extra bonus points for Grace freaking out a little when he learns that Rocky was actually Prince Rocky the whole time and Rocky never thought to mention it even once, for YEARS.

Rocky successfully navigating to tau ceti with no knowledge of relativistic physics is absolutely fucking wild. I forgot in the book his crew was all incapacitated and/or dead by the time he realized something was up with the travel times being faster than expected and then had to troubleshoot it all on his own with a negligible understanding of how to do it. and he did it. insane interstellar piloting talent right off the cuff like wtf

Eridian speculative biology time!

Erid is a very big planet, very very very big planet, twice the size of earth in fact- and divided by oceans, perfect conditions for populations to remain and develop separately and for long enough to create diferent species. So, unlike us, Eridians are a Polytypic genus: there's more than one species of sapient eridian, All of them sharing a common ancestor in the form of a small, 5 legged ambush-hunter land carnivore, all share common traits taking only slightly different evolutionary paths

Divers- get their name from living in semi-flooded caves, their high small vents allow them to be partially submerged without drowning and their long arms allow them to grip things easily underwater, similar to a sea-horse tail

Climbers- similarly, they get their name from their living enviroment, living in very high caves, their long thin arms allow them to grip and climb very steep rock walls, kinda like goats in a way

Drills and Stompers get their name from the shape of their arms, they both developed closer to the surface compared to the others, their arms are like that for dealing with sandstorms, while Drills "drill" themselfs in place, Stompers use their body weight to keep themselfs down

Blocks are very similar to Stompers, but they live in caves much deeper down, so they're quite compact

Common traits between all species: all Eridians can thrum, all Eridians organize in "colonies" like ants or termites (tho the specifics of how each colony works varies), all Eridians are True Carnivores(can only eat meat) and all Eridians are unisex

In theory any one eridian can procreate with any other eridian, between the 5 species there are 4 fertile hybrids and 3 infertile hybrids posible

note: tho each species has a more broad vague shared culture between themselves, none of them are a monolith, all of them have vastly different culture, language, texture, practices and even phenotypes between different colonies around the world

note 2: the fact humans are a monotypic species (there is only one in our genus) is really fucking weird to them

The ship to Eridani!

i wanted the design to be based off both the Hail Mary and the Hermes, as if earth toke what it already knew worked long term and stuck with it. old and reliable technology as they say.

The crew is very large, so the ship itself is truly massive, since its meant to sustain everyone during the eight-year round trip + the time they stay on Erid. They dont use the coma systems of the mary because of the 1/3 chance of survival and, again, the crew is very big, is much easier to keep a large group in a small apartment complex sane than 3 people in a tin can.

Also, I realized later that the central wheel would need two different gravity modes: an "in-transit" mode, where the ship's acceleration acts as simulated gravity, and a "stationary" mode, for when the ship is in orbit. The wheel is the only part of the ship capable of maintaining gravity 100% of the time during the mission; so, the lab, gym, greenhouse, kitchen, and such are located there. Areas like storage, dormitory, and the mental health room—which do not require gravity—are located in the "Mary" section of the ship.

Humans would be an invasive species on Erid.

Pray on Erid would have evolved to survive echolocation not sight.

Give Grace a flashlight and a long range projectile weapon and he could easily wipe out a small local pray population.

Like there wouldn't even be pigmentation consistency with the surrounding environment in any species since it wouldn't have been a determining factor for breeding.
