finally, i can stop feeling bad about my inability to shut up about a town that DOESN'T EXIST. expect tons of squealing any time carson mcgregor and aaron chapman are in the same room together, or how hufflepuff twins chris chapman and danielle lambin are a pair of sixth graders in disguise.
But that was just as wellâeven if she hadnât known about Chrisâs relationship with Emily, Dany couldnât picture dating Chris, and it wasnât because it had been a while since sheâd dated anyone. He was just so young.
âŠSo did the âafternoon delightâ scenario between Taylor and Elliot never happen, or am I allowed to make up the resolution for it, orâŠ? Itâs pretty pivotal, and itâs actually the only reason I hadnât put up an open log for her. A lot of her future actions were dependent on how that ended up. :|
Awh man, that sucks. :c Being that you're still here, I'm gonna leave the resolution up to you? I'm not gonna have you be hung up because Elliot's gone now. And if we get him to return in the future, you can just catch that player up on the history between El and Taylor.
YAYYYYYYY NEW CHARACTERS. omg. Also Iâm watching the Lizzie McGuire Movie rn (HAHAHA please judge) but Iâm working on this ad, too. Thereâs a draft in the main accountâs page full of filler whomp.
âSorry,â he murmured licking his lips. He flexed the fingers of his hand unconsciously. His face felt hot, but he didnât drop his gaze. âAm I bothering you?â His voice was a low rumble. The question was totally redundant, but he wanted to see what Aaron would say. While he was at it, Carson pushed forward until his knee slipped past Aaronâs to graze the inside of his leg. He kept his gaze steady, gauging for a response.
Summary: Why aren't I in love with Dany? Carson wonders.
Itâs weird, because even though itâs brief, heâs never held anybodyâs hand before that wasnât a family member. Carson doesnât really have time for girls â how could he, between his 4.0 GPA, lacrosse, and the SGO? Besides, itâs not like his father hasnât been talking for years about how Carsonâs mother was the only girl heâd ever dated, and that girls were basically the Devil unless you intended on marrying and raising children with them. So yeah. None of that.
Dany doesnât hold on for much longer once sheâs tugged him to safety, but she doesn't exactly let go immediately either. They've been talking in class for weeks now -- English classes without her at his side are slowly becoming an old memory -- and he's actually hung out with her around town a few times, so he's not at all disturbed. Actually... it's nice.
She lets go, and they smile at each other at the same time.
After his first positive response, the touches only continue. Dany reaches for him whenever she wants his attention in class -- their desks always end up somehow closer than most -- and she's very prone to giving him friendly pats on the shoulder whenever he's pleased her. Carson's not used to it, but it's definitely not overwhelming, just different. Pleasant, even.
With each of the little half-smiles that he gives her at the contact they make, Dany seems to grow a little bolder. Over their last two years of high school, she teaches him a whole new language through touch. A hand on his elbow means stop;fingers pressing into the small of his back tell him to go. Soothing touches to his shoulders or high on his back are her way of telling him to relax, and when she takes either of his hands while they're in the middle of a conversation it means that it's serious, even if she's not meeting his eyes.
Dany teaches, and Carson learns, until he's just as well-versed in body language as he is English, can tell by the pressure of her fingers when she's excited or upset, regardless of whether she wants him to know.
It isolates them.
People give them strange looks when they see them throughout the town. It's not just his classmates, it's his neighbors when he takes her to lunch, his mother's friends when they see the two of them arm-in-arm at the fair. They don't understand why Carson, who'd never felt inclined to be intimate with girls before, selected Dany. She's an outsider to them, but not to him -- by the time they're ready to graduate, she knows him better than anyone else.
His friends don't like her. She doesn't appreciate them much either, but she at least tries to be civil. Once he's at school though, things become very much about the two of them: he loses touch with a lot of the people that he used to know, but she remains a constant all the same. The summer after his first year of law school, they make room for Nickie, but it's still mainly about the two of them. Later he'll be ashamed of that fact, but at the time, it flies clean over his head.
It starts to sink in that he might actually have a problem the first weekend he comes home after he and Nickie have gotten together. He's about half-way through the year, and it's been tough: he hasn't seen much of Dany or Nickie, and apparently Nickie and Tom are even better friends than they were in high school now, so he decides that clearly the best solution is for them to all go out together.
He realizes he may have a problem on his hands when he's walking out of Tom's room to hear Nickie and Dany talking in heated whispers in the living room. He stops.
"But seriously, you need to keep your hands off of Carson."
"He's my best friend."
That has always been their excuse. It has been shrugged and shouted, each time said as simply as Dany is saying it right now.
"That's exactly the point. He's my boyfriend. I don't think you understand: I'm always going to be higher on the food chain than you. I don't know if you want him, and I don't care if you want him, but he's not yours, so back off."
Dany has a habit of getting really blunt when she's irritated, but even knowing this, Carson still flinches as she speaks. "Actually, I think you're the one who doesn't get it. Yeah, you are the girlfriend -- he can dump you. What's he going to do after nearly ten years? Break up with me?"
The door to Tom's room opens again just then, Tom and Devon exiting none too quietly. Carson enters the living room, and Dany and Nickie are doing their best to ignore what just happened, but he knows what he heard. Dany avoids any unnecessary contact with him that evening, and between himself and Nickie, as well as Tom and Devon, she's a fifth wheel if he's ever seen one. Nickie is borderline smug the whole night.
