You know what, you’re right. You’re not a slave. Now back to work.
Truth
Waiter: Would you like your pizza cut into six slices or eight?
Ben Bernanke: Better make it eight, I'm starving.
You are not just studying for your future.
You are studying to save those patients.
You are studying to save that family’s mother from a lengthy jail sentence.
You are studying to teach us all.
You are studying to improve global communication.
You are studying to improve the environment.
You are studying so we learn from the past.
You are studying so technology progresses.
Who ever you are and whatever your goals are.
Your decision to study will change the world.
Literally.

my study moods
Tired but still going: eyes twitching, didn't sleep more than two hours last night (or not at all), "I can study a little bit more, it's okay"
Not today: opens book, reads a word, sighs, closes book
Doing a lot, learning a little: drinks 7 liters of coffee while listening to someone explain magnetic fields (even through I'm taking notes on biology), thinking about my to do list
The procrastinator: "I know I have like 36 chapters for tomorrow but I suddenly have this urge to research about aromatherapy"
Time traveling: studies for nine hours straight, "when did the sun go down?"
Inverse pomodoro: is very proud because I wrote like two sentences, time to take a four hours break
Hate/love relationship: "I hate this subject" I mumble as I keep studying it
WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?
To the place I fit the most. Suomi. 💙
I didn’t see this until now so HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS
LOOK AT THESE AXES
YOU CAN PUT STUFF ON THEM
This turns it into a PRODUCTION POSSIBILITIES CURVE (PPC) (or Production Possibilities Frontier, which sounds cooler)
these show you the relationship between two goods and how the resources can be allocated to make them (constant opportunity costs are a straight line as the two goods use similar resources, while increasing opportunity costs is a curve because their resources are different
But what’s an OPPORTUNITY COST??? you might ask
well the fact that you asked that question shows that you gave up the SECOND BEST THING which is not asking that question and being confused
the wonderful Google gives us this definiton:
so basically if you choose to read this post, you decided this was your HAPPY PLACE (me too thanks) and since you’re that cool you gave up doing something else
you gave up playing Neko Atsume to read this post. I gave up going to sleep to write this post (hello 1:36 A.M.)
you might ask
well let’s TAKE A LOOK AT
FOOD and GOODIES use different resources to be made. Goodies can be like the rubber for a ball or whatever, whereas food is made of food. The resources are not very similar (unless you eat rubber I guess). You may pay the same for these different things (fish), but that’s not what we care about for this
The important thing to note here is the difference between Food and Goodies is that one is a consumer good while the other is a capital good, respectively.
A consumer good is something for the now - something that you use in the present. A capital good is an investment for the future. Capital goods usually invest in the future. Goodies increase the number of cats that visit your yard, which allows you to buy more Goodies in the future. Plus, any development made on Goodies leads to increased Goodie-making technology, leading to more Goodies. (Disclaimer: This doesn’t quite exactly work this way but if you’re curious how it really works, send me a message.)
With this we can look at a change in the PPC
the PPC has a party and shifts from the blue to the red, able to produce more goodies in the future. Food production doesn’t increase on its own, because all you do is eat it.
Point A: This is why Tubbs hurts the catconomy. He only cares about food. If you only produce food then you’ll be stagnant and not produce anything at all. Buying food makes no progress for the future.
Point B: However, only buying Goodies will lead to starving cats. Consumer goods are important because they keep people alive.
Point C: This is closer to what the ideal production might be like. It really depends on other things, but any suitable combination of food and goodies that doesn’t favor either one heavily is probably going to be a better combination.
NEXT TIME on ACTUAL CAT ECONOMICS
supply and demand probably
Disclaimer: Not all this information is necessarily 100% accurate, as some of it is adjusted to fit Neko Atsume. I’m merely a student in an economics class. I like to think that I have a good grasp on this material, but I do not recommend using this post as a review. Go read a textbook or something instead. If you have a question about this post, I will do my best to clarify.
