She knew better. After everything that had happened with Blake the previous year, Eliza had known to stay away from him. She couldn’t help it though, seeing as the upperclassman knew how to get under her skin and push her to do things she’d normally refrain from. Bringing feelings into her situation made the whole thing worse when she acknowledged that somewhere along the way, she’d developed deep-rooted feelings for the infuriating Vampire. Eliza was still struggling to block out all the feelings of her classmates, but having her own feelings added in was too much for the Empath.
She’d confided in her closest thing to a friend at the school, Eden Newman, about her problems with Blake, leading to Eliza making the long journey to Blake’s room to talk with him. She didn’t make it very far before she saw one of the other girls attending the school, recognizing her as Lindsay, knock on his room door, Blake opening the door moments earlier. Eliza was left nearly breathless as she watched the two of them exchange a kiss before entering his room. She very nearly didn’t make it out of the dorms before she broke, making her way back to Eden’s dorm room.
Eliza was certain the other girl was already asleep, but there wasn’t anywhere she felt she could go. Knocking on the door quietly, Eliza stood as close as she could to the hard surface before calling out to her friend. “Eden, are you awake?” It was a only a moment later that she heard a muffled noise on the other side of the door and she tried the doorknob, slowly pushing the door open. “I know it’s late. I didn’t have anywhere I felt comfortable going.”
Eden had gotten back into bed after unlocking her door, but after hearing Eliza’s makeshift apologies, she looked over at the other girl, taking note of the tracks of tears that had long since fallen down her cheeks. “Let me guess. Blake.”
Eliza sat down on the floor, leaning against the vacant bed opposite Eden’s before nodding, fresh tears slowly filling her eyes again as she tried to explain what happened, her voice breaking slightly as she finished. “I went to talk to him but he wasn’t alone.”
“As in?”
“He had Lindsay over! I was standing right there watching them kiss! Did he even see me? No!”
Eden was slightly taken back by Eliza’s sudden anger. Sure, the other girl was known to have attitude, and she always struggled to balance her emotions because of her abilities, but this felt different. It was obvious Eliza’s feelings for Blake were strong, but having spent time at the school with her and seeing how she was when Blake was around, Eden suspected Eliza had started to fall for the upperclassman, and she wasn’t in the mood for subtlety when she stated as much. “Eliza, you really need to fucking talk to the guy! Don’t get an attitude with me because you’re afraid to admit you’re in love with him, okay?!”
“Love?!”, Eliza scoffed. “I am not in love with him.”
“You can lie to yourself, Eliza, but you could never lie to me. I know you too well.”
“Well….it doesn’t matter anymore, now does it. He’s already in love with someone else, and what am I compared to her?”
