We had a blast this Sunday at Manchester Day Parade!
**So much coolness in Berlin!
Retro chic - bike spoke beads
Would you or you would rather not?!
I received these for my birthday and although I haven't had the courage to give them a 'proper' go, I fixed just a few purple and yellow ones on my front wheel. The sound they make as I start my ride or when I slow down, reminds me of childhood and make cycling fun and enjoyable. Not sure I would go for the whole box though - simply because my bike is not vintage enough.
Is it really crazy to show affection for your bike this way? Oh, probably not. (**Wait until I'll decorate my handlebars!)
**Pure Pleasure
I don't consider myself a true, fanatic cyclist. I don't ride my bike for over 30 miles per day, I don't have serious cyclist equipment and I've only started to ride a bike as an adult one year ago.
I have a normal, inexpensive bike which I like to photograph - it is so much fun.
There is a great sense of solitude on some long rides but at the same time you feel connected to the environment and to yourself: the bike gives you this power - to feel free and so close to all those colours and scents you pass by.
I don't always take my camera with me but when I do, I have to stop and take landscape pictures quite often. Then I photograph my bike as I would photograph a person; a portrait of my two wheeled companion, trying to use a flattering light and an eye-catching composition. This is how I realised there is a 'theme' developing in my photography portofolio and I should treat it separately; hence, the initiative of this blog.
I also want to find more about cyclists like me who are not that experienced to go on crazy rides but who are in love with cycling; I see them everyday, we pass by each other and we share the same smile. I want to photograph more people on their bikes and maybe sometimes stop and talk to them. I also want to share here information that might be useful for future research. A hub of pure cycling pleasure, really!
I secretly hope that time, ambition, fitness levels and circumstance will allow me to improve and to gradually get to another level with cycling. There is nothing really stopping me to do so. Until then though, enjoy the ride! :)
This is a picture of Silver Breeze - a bike I had last year but which was stolen from my shed. The sunset allowed me to play with light and make it look really beautiful.
