Regulus' Mark
James took a second longer after she spoke to let his threat sink in. After a few moments of letting her question linger in the air, James sighed. “Okay, no. I wouldnt…” He admitted. “I wouldnt turn you in anyways. I make no promises to the rest of your lot.” As he clarified, James felt that he didnt feel any better. He forced himself to not think about why she was special; about why he wouldnt turn her in even if she had the mark burned onto her skin. That thought itself made his stomach turn and with that, he forced himself to stop thinking about it. Though that was an easier request that was said then done.
"Loose our customs?" James repeated slowly. "Please expand on that because I dearly hope you dont mean what I think you’re trying to say."
As she continued on, James watched as the fear erupted in her eyes. Her tone made him want to hug her but he restrained himself, though eh did continue to stare down at her with more concern in his eyes then hostile. “Yes, he is powerful.” James agreed slowly, as he tried to figure out a way to phrase what he wanted to say. “..but hes not going to be around forever. He cant, its just not possible. Not only that but if there is enough people to fight him— he will loose. I can promise you that.” James finished, hoping that his voice sounded more confident then he actually felt on that particular subject.
His eyes followed her arms as she crossed them over his chest and he found himself feeling more annoyed that he couldnt see her skin. As soon as Lily was re-entered into the conversation, James felt his body seize up and his defensive side come out once more. “Tell me exactly what shes done to you. All im hearing is vague and bullshitted reasons for disliking her. Come on, now. Dont hold back on my account.” With that, James took a step back from her and watched her expressions closely. “So what if we are? Why do you care?”
"You talk as if every decision is already decided." He then spoke, trying to tread carefully as the sensitive subject reappeared. "You’re choosing the wrong side… you do realize that, right? Listen, I understand that you feel the need to go along with your friends.. with your family but cant you at least to try to see my side of things? To see the lighter side? The one where we dont have to torture and murder people to win?” James then paused and looked down at her sadly. “I dont think its my judgement thats clouded here.”
"Regulus has nothing to do with us." James then replied, his tone She nodded growing cold at the mention of his best friends younger brother.
"Fine, we don't need you to stay quiet about these things- and I certainly don't need you to help me out." she said but her eyes couldn't meet his at all.
She pouted, unable to help it as she shifted finding it hard to look him in the eye. "You know what I mean," she said defensively. "We've been told that muggles will be the downfall of us- do you see how the depict us in art? Can you imagine them requiring us to fix all their mundane little problems?" Her anger was flaring up, "First they're going to want to just accept muggleborns and then they're going to spill all our secrets."
She shook her head vehemently as she went closer. She hesitantly put her hand near his chest and finally looked at him. "You can't promise that." she said softly, "Although I wish you could."
"Fine!" she said loudly, crossing her arms. "I don't like her! I don't like her because she clearly likes you and you've basically liked her forever!" She looked away, annoyed at how loud she was but could feel the tears building up. "Fine! Forget about it! We're not even out of school, I hate talking to you about this and you're the only one that makes me doubt this." Her voice was shrill and she turned around so that she didn't have to look at him. "I hate you. I hate this. I should never have talked to you in the first place."
