bungo stray dogs is a piece of media thats so filled with tumblr energy. Its like a collective mass hallucination of famous author fanfiction with just the right amount of derangedness, mental illness, generational trauma and existential crisis. Each and every character gives major gender envy. Everything is enemies to lovers to enemies to freinds to lovers to enemies. Everything the characters do is high-key illegal and everyone agrees that old guys in the government r useless except for this one triple spy who's sleep deprived to a fault. There is a guy who is chronically online and absolutely cannot leave his futon. Asagiri said in an interview that bsd is a story abt the painful struggles of young adulthood, with a touch of "undergroundness" (i assume he's referring to Notes From the Underground here). He hopes that this story will be a "sharp axe of sorts," to help "break the ice in readers' heart".

I think this story is meant for young ppl who struggle with a certain darkness that made them doubt their identity in this world, to the point of questioning the meaning of existence; who because of various reasons find it hard to connect with others but deep down are always craving love; who are even ashamed of themselves, guilty of what they have done or become, fearing that there's no turning back - but bsd soothes all these worries by reassuring them that, someone will find your life worthy, will believe in your humanity even when the world shakes its head - even in the darkest places, love rings true. And because of that, the storms of youth would pass and life would be worth living again.
