The highly anticipated debut EP from Roberto Horns has FINALLY released! The album includes six tracks. Amongst them are “Fake Smiles” and his latest single “Working Out,” alongside four other tracks you may not be as familiar with. Roberto has been working hard to make a name for himself, and you can definitely hear that in every track he lays down. Roberto Horns’s "Fake Smiles” Seem to Be All Real!
You've heard us say time and time again that New Age Media is all about taking your passion, running with it, and making a name for yourself. Roberto Horns, 29-year-old singer, songwriter, producer, AND filmmaker, is certainly making a name for himself in 2016. Saying his music is like "Fall Out Boy meets Drake," Roberto has his own unique style that sets himself apart from other musicians in the pop genre. We had the glorious opportunity to speak to Roberto about his music, and what we can expect to see and hear from him this year.
Q: So Roberto, first of all, thanks for taking the time to talk to us! How has 2016 been treating you so far?
A: Thanks for having me. It's cool that people are interested in talking to me about my music. So I definitely want to let you know that I appreciate it. This year has been dope so far. I've been spending a lot of time working on music videos. Since I do all the video stuff in-house its been a great learning experience.
Q: In your recent interview with Young Hollywood, you state that you've worked with a plethora of people in the industry because you've been around for a while. How old were you when you first started making music?
A: I grew up playing trumpet and all the brass instruments in middle and high school. I started rapping in high school then shifted to songwriting and production in college. So I guess I've been doing something musical my whole life. You would think I would be better at it by now. Nope. Still sucky.
Q: What's the most difficult part of your creative process: producing, writing or singing?
A: Singing is definitely the "most difficult" for me. I'm a ridiculously good songwriter. I don't say that to sound conceited. I'm just confident that I have a cool perspective and great lyrics. I'm an ok producer. But still getting better everyday at all 3.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a completely unsigned, independent artist?
A: Ha. Well for the most part it means that I have to pay for everything myself. But its dope that I free reign over when and how I release my stuff. And only having to live up to my expectations instead of some company's is cool too. However if some company would like to start helping me pay for all this shit, then I may be open to it.
Q: When can we expect to hear/see "Working Out"!?
A: Wooooorrrkkiing oooooooout is sooooooo dope. I'm really excited about if you can't tell. The video is coming out Feb 15. The song is currently on iTunes.
Q: Do you have any collaborations planned with other artists?
A: Some of my musician friends help with ideas by playing some instruments or singing background vocals on my songs. But no real collaborations yet. I feel like I have a ton of cool shit to say and I feel like other people would kinda get in the way of that right now.
Wait almost forgot....I have a song that I want to get T.I. on. Not sure how to make it happen just throwing it out there.
Q: What can we expect to see out of your charming young soul this year?
A: This year. I'm releasing 2 EPs. The first, which will feature Fake Smiles and Working Out is coming in March. The second EP in the summer. I'll be making about 10 videos over the course of the year as well. I'm going to be busy. But it's what I signed up for and I love it.
I love Roberto's style and spirit, his music video for "Fake Smiles" always puts me in a ridiculously good mood, and reminds me why I do what I do.
