New Dawn: Genesis

Welcome to the hottest new reality show! Eight sims work together to create a brand new, self-sufficient town! If they are successful, they will win legal ownership of the town, and will have the option to either move back with a cash prize, or stay in Genesis.

Liam: Why hello there, why aren't you a part of our little group here?

Host: Ah- well, I- this is the role I was selected for.

Liam: Oh? You did apply to be a contestant?

Host: That's- um, that is beside the point. I never said that.

Liam: Ah, but you basically just admitted it.

Host: It isn't what I meant! Liam, please. I am supposed to be interviewing you, not the other way around.

Liam: Oh, I'm sorry. Do you want me to start from the beginning?

Host: Please.

Liam: Hello, dear viewers. My name is Liam Walker, and I am the community liaison and engagement officer for Genesis. In other words, I'm the guy who talks a lot.

Host: I'm beginning to notice that already. ... please don't wink at me.

Liam: Sorry.

Host: Ahem, anyway. I understand that means you are "the guy who talks a lot," but can you give us a better understanding of what that means?

Liam: Of course. I'm here to make sure everyone communicates well, to foster a sense of community, gather feedback to then deliver to Ellie, making sure everyone feels heard, and of course, planning events. I look forward to that one especially.

Host: I'm sure. So, are you much of an event person? Tell the viewers about yourself. What are your hobbies, where are you from? Did you go to university? And I'm sure many of the viewers - and perhaps the other contestants - are wondering if you're single.

Liam: Is that question from yourself?

Host: No.

Liam: Haha, alright, sorry. Yeah, I'm an event kinda person. I enjoy a good party. I grew up in Sim City. You know, huge, bustling city with parties everywhere you turn. But no one knows each other there - everyone's a stranger. It's really isolating. I've always admired the way everyone knows everyone in a small town, so I thought the New Dawn project sounded like exactly my cup of tea. Never went to college, though. I mostly worked in the non-profit sector, and you don't need much education for that.

Host: Ah, no, I don't suppose you do.

Liam: Nope. As for being single, I am, just have my family, but they mean the world to me. It's tough to not be able to talk to them for a year, but... I can do it. And as for my hobbies, I like to take some time to strum the guitar, but my favorite pass time is cooking. Unless someone else wants the job, I plan to be the main chef when I have nothing else to do for our little community.

Host: I'm sure the others will appreciate that. Thank you, Liam. That's all for now.

Liam: Alright. Thank you, too.

Host: Hello, you must be Willow Hayes. Am I correct?

Willow: You are!

Host: Wonderful. How are you doing today? Excited to get started on Genesis?

Willow: Oh, yes. But I'm also nervous. I've never done anything like this before.

Host: I'm sure you are. Speaking of what you do, what is it you were selected to do here in Genesis?

Willow: Ah! I'm in charge of everything regarding the medical field and wellbeing.

Host: Impressive! You're a doctor, then?

Willow: No, not a doctor. I was a registered ER nurse for the last several years.

Host: That sounds extremely stressful. Is that why you are here now?

Willow: Sadly, yes. I loved my job, but.. I just kept feeling increasingly burnt out, and had stopped feeling connected to the patients I was trying to help. They just become a job, rather than a passion. So when my coworker suggested I apply to be a cast member of this show, I was a little hesitant, but eventually applied. And... now I'm actually here.

Host: I see! Good thing your coworker suggested it then.

Willow: For sure!

Host: Is there anything else about yourself that you would like to share?

Willow: Like what?

Host: Oh, like where you're from, your hobbies, if you have anyone back home waiting for you. Things like that, or anything else if you want to share.

Willow: I see! Yes, of course. Well, I didn't have a lot of time for hobbies back when I was working in the ER, but before that I used to volunteer in community health outreach programs. I grew up in a small town, myself, so I want to help the underserved areas get the medical assistance they need. Oh! And I am also very much into yoga. Not sure about anything other than that, I haven't had much time recently to spend to discovering myself. And definitely no time to date. Though...

Host: Though?

Willow: Someone on the plane here caught my eye.

Host: Oh? Who is that?

Willow: Ahhh I'm not telling! If that person isn't interested in me, I don't want to spoil anything! If it happens it happens.

Host: Of course, I understand. Thank you, Willow. I look forward to seeing if that works out for you.

Willow: You're welcome! And hehe, me too. Well.. not seeing... just.. you know what I mean.

Host: Of course.

Host: Hello Caleb. I hear you prefer to be called Kai?

Kai: Yeah, that's me. Kai Vance, older brother of our glorious leader, Ellie Vance.

Host: It's a pleasure to meet you, Kai.

Kai: You too, even if I'm not supposed to say your name. Why not, anyway? Doesn't seem like the usual format for a reality competition.

Host: Well, this isn't exactly the normal reality competition show, is it?

Kai: I guess that's true. But I still don't know why you're remaining anonymous.

Host: That is because we want to keep this experience as authentic for the viewers as we can. We want them to feel like you all are truly isolated, building this town on your own.

Kai: That makes sense.

Host: I'm glad. So, Kai, what is role in the town? What were you chosen to be? So far we know that your sister is the mayor, and Rowan is the head of resource management and sustainability, so the viewers and I would like to get to know you a bit better now.

Kai: I'm the head of technology and innovation!

Host: That seems very important. But.. is there much for you to do at the beginning? With there being no electricity, and no perceived way to get electricity yet?

Kai: Oh sure, for now I'll just be helping out where I can. I'm pretty athletic despite being a computer nerd, you know, haha. I'll do whatever the other residents need me to do, do heavy lifting, gardening, caring for animals, whatever. All while figuring out a way to get a power source without getting outside help.

Host: I see, that makes sense. So, now that we know what you'll be in charge of, do you want to tell me any more about yourself? Perhaps a university degree, what you did for work, where you come from? Is there anyone waiting for you back home? Do you have any hobbies?

Kai: I can definitely answer those questions. The easy ones first - I do have hobbies, mostly programming and video games, but those are also my job, so I also play some guitar in my spare time, and go skiing when I can. I have no girlfriend or anything, if that's what you're asking about anyone back home.

Host: That's all good to know, thank you.

Kai: Yeah. As for the other questions, I have a degree in computer science, and I was working for a company that was just a start-up when I was hired, but it's pretty big now. I developed some software for them that really propelled them to the top, but I'm not telling you what it is. That's private, I like to keep it a secret. I might be an arrogant son of a b**** but- oh, can I say that?

Host: It's fine, we'll bleep it out.

Kai: Great, anyway, as I said, I'm an arrogant SOB but I also want to be appreciated for me, not just my software.

Host: I'm sure we all understand that, Kai. Thank you for answering my questions, I'm sure our viewers are happy to have gotten to know you a bit better.

Kai: I'm sure they are, too. See ya!

Host: Hello.

Rowan: Yo.

Host: Please introduce yourself for the viewers at home.

Rowan: Right. I'm Rowan Kepler, nonbinary. They/them pronouns.

Host: Thank you, Rowan. Now, I have already given a description of how the contestants each have a role to fulfill in the town in the interview with Ellie, so I will skip straight to the main part of the interview. Does that sound good?

Rowan: Sure.

Host: Alright. So, what role were you selected for in the town, Rowan?

Rowan: I'm the head of resource management and sustainability.

Host: I see! That seems like an important job, but can you give me a summary of what it is you will do? For those who might not know what that is.

Rowan: Right. Basically, I will be working towards keeping us environmentally friendly, and keeping track of our resources. I'm the one that plans and allocates our resources, approving the use of items for projects the others will think of. Also, I'm a bit of a handyperson, and will be actually participating in a lot of the building projects. Back home, I helped with a lot of the building projects in my community.

Host: Wow! Sounds like you'll be a major asset to Genesis.

Rowan: Hah, I hope so.

Host: Alright, so, tell me a little bit more about yourself. Where do you come from, what did you do before you came here, is there someone waiting for you back home? Any hobbies? Things like that.

Rowan: Ugh.. okay. I'm, uh. I'm from an off-the-grid community... basically, a former hippie commune that somehow lasted until now. So I'm used to living an environmentally friendly life, and being self-sufficient. Helped my family grow our own food. Grew up learning about the environment, really lit a fire under me to fix things, so I applied to go to university in the big city to learn environmental sceince.

Host: That is impressive! So you have a degree in environmental science?

Rowan: Oh, nah. University was not for me. It was too... theoretical, not hands on enough. I dropped out after the second semester.

Host: Ah, I see. That makes sense, university is not for everyone.

Rowan: Nope. So I've been mostly working as a freelance consultant, until I saw the recruiting advertisement for this show and thought it sounded more like what I wanted to do.

Host: I hope it will be exactly what you want it to be. Anyway, can you share anything else about yourself?

Rowan: Oh. Yeah. The questions you asked me before, I don't have anyone waiting for me back home, if you mean romantically. I have a few flings, but nothing serious. As for hobbies, I love making wooden carvings, statues, furniture, I just love woodworking. When I need some time alone - which I need a lot of - I just isolate myself in a work with a block of wood and a knife. It's great fun.

Host: That's amazing! I believe that's all the time we have, so thank you so much for your time, Rowan.

Rowan: Yeah. No prob. See ya later.

Host: Your name is Elara Vance, correct?

Ellie: Actually, I prefer Ellie. But yeah, Elara Vance. Just don't call me that, please, haha.

Host: Of course, Ellie. So, the viewers are going to want to get to know you. I should give a little backstory since your interview will be airing first. I know you know the drill, but the viewers don't.

Ellie: Sure!

Host: Every contestant here on New Dawn: Genesis has a role to fill, and that's how they were selected to be on the show. Everyone filled out a sort of.. resume to be on the show, like if they were applying for a job. So, Ellie, what role are you here to fill?

Ellie: Well, uh, it's a little embarrassing to admit, but I'm actually the, um. The mayor?

Host: I see! So were you selected because you have a background in politics?

Ellie: See, that's why it's embarrassing. I have no experience with politics. I've barely graduated from university, actually, I'm the youngest member of our little group.

Host: And what was your degree in?

Ellie: Urban planning.

Host: I would say that makes you more than qualified to be the mayor. Alright, let's move on before we run out of time. Tell me a little about yourself. Where you're from, if you have someone waiting for you back home, hobbies, anything that will have the viewers wanting to know more about you?

Ellie: Ahhhh I'm really not that interesting. I come from a small, rural town that has actually been in decline for a while now. That's why I'm so passionate about this kind of thing. I have an older brother- oh! Actually, he's on the show, too. You'll be interviewing him later. Kai Vance. I'll let him tell you about himself, though.

Host: I look forward to speaking to him. Anyway, please continue.

Ellie: Right, yeah. As I said I graduated uni with a degree in urban planning, and was going to put it to use building up my childhood home, but then I learned Kai was going to do this, and decided to apply, too. Never thought I'd get in. As for someone waiting for me back home, no.. I'm single.

Host: I'm sure some of your fellow contestants are happy to hear that, haha.

Ellie: Maybe. Um, for hobbies, I actually enjoy making jewelry in my spare time? I rarely wear it, but my friends seem to like it. And I also dabble in writing comedy routines, but frankly I'm no good. Never got so much as a chuckle. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good joke, though.

Host: Doesn't everyone? We don't have much time left, and I have one more question. If you were to successfully build the town up by the end of the year and win the option to either take the money or ownership of the town, which do you think you would prefer?

Ellie: Oh gosh... right now, I think I'd take the money. But I'm pretty sure that by the end of a year of spending time with my fellow contestants, and getting attached to the town... my answer will probably change.

Host: Understandable. Thank you, Ela- Ellie. That was very enlightening. I can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes for you.

Ellie: No problem. Me too.

Good evening everyone, and welcome to a brand new type of reality TV!

Not only is this an entirely new type of show, but we have completely flipped the script.

Eight contestants have been taken to the middle-of-nowhere, Simerica, and dropped in the midst of a desert. There are roads and buildings, but no running water, no electricity, no money, no food, and (mostly) no other sims for miles around. The surrounding area was once a bustling town, but sadly, it has been a ghost town for over 50 years!

They have cell phones to get in contact with us should they need us; during the day, we have a limited camera crew available, but most filming is done voluntarily by the contestants themselves via cell phone camera, camcorders, and drones.

That is what these eight contestants are setting out to change: they must work together, under these difficult circumstances, to build the area up into the start of a bustling town, called Genesis, within a year.

What this means is that by the end of the first year in Genesis, our contestants will need to find a way to get plumbing and electricity into their town, have built up at least 2 separate houses, a museum for future residents to learn about the founders of Genesis, and a renewable source of food.

If they are unsuccessful, they walk away with nothing but an interesting experience to tell their friends and family.

But if they are successful, they will win ownership of the town, and the rights to do with it whatever they please. However, the contestants that choose not to stay in the town and continue to build it up are free to leave, and can each accept a prize of $20k upon returning to their regular lives.

And if enough of the contestants choose to stay in the town, they also have the choice of continuing the filming of the town's development in a spinoff show. (Our viewers will also have a say in that, so be sure to stream every episode!)
