Day 3–Angst
How? How could Rapunzel will herself off of the floor long enough to make it back to Corona? To her real parents? She knew who she was now. She was free to be in the outside world. But how? She had lived in a world without Eugene Fitzherbert and it was not one that she wanted to experience again. She couldn’t force her body to move, to leave him here alone in this tower, even as his body lay lifeless in her arms. So she sat, unsure of how much time she spent, brokenly singing the healing incantation as if it might do any good.
“You were my new dream.”
The memory of his last whispered words broke her. She sobbed. She mourned the loss of what could have been, the thought that little orphaned Eugene Fitzherbert had lived a life so full of heartbreak and strife and for what? To save her? To give up his life and die in this cold, horrible tower at the hands of that woman? The tears fell until her vision was blurred and her small frame was shaking with the force of her emotions. She was so focused on the crushing pain and guilt that at first she almost missed it. The feeling of deft fingers wiping away the tears still streaming down her cheeks. She didn’t open her eyes, afraid that if she did, the spell would be broken and it would all just be in her imagination.
“Rapunzel.” It was a single word, her name, but her sobs came harder as she wrenched her eyes open to find the same familiar, warm chocolate eyes she had became so accustomed to within the past few days. She threw her arms around him, her body still trembling as she sobbed, but this time, a pair of strong arms were there to comfort her. Rapunzel couldn’t even begin to guess how long he had been holding her, but eventually she calmed, the tears drying up and her breath coming steady once again. “You know, I always did have a thing for brunettes.” Before Rapunzel could start crying again, Eugene brushed a strand of hair back. “Please don’t start crying again because I definitely will too. And let me warn you, I’m not a very pretty crier, I know that’s hard to believe.” And as a laugh bubbled out of Rapunzel’s mouth, maybe, just maybe things might be okay. Eugene was okay.

Look okay I know it’s Eugene appreciation week when this is Rap’s pov and that this is an hour and 15-ish minutes late for Day 3-Angst but I just thought of this and it’s technically centered around Eugene and it’s definitely angsty so yikes sorry for bad writing and zero proof reading
