A testament to the joy she’s brought him over the years.
Little grooves. Lovingly creased. Prodded and nudged and tucked at the corners of his eyes, the edges of his nose.
Greys. More than sparse. Sprawling, encroaching, starting a handful of years ago, just above his ears and up.
Mariana finds the first one of many in his beard. Almost platinum-white, tickles his chin with a red-painted nail, and purrs the words silver fox.
Ethan wonders if the crinkling at his eyes would look as pronounced if it weren’t for her. Would they, instead, be from years of frowning and scowling— and not from his inability to suppress his good humor when it comes to her.
It’s a contagious thing. Dooming everyone around her to the same fate he’s faced. Tickled giggles and unexpected chuckles. Will their faces wear the same lines? Signed and delivered from and by her?

A smile so charming and sharp illuminates his features as he studies her, pinning her like a butterfly with a single look. It is so reminiscent of something familiar, something that once felt like home. Lilac feels her throat tighten.
“You could give me a run for my money at the negotiation table,” Malcolm laughs, his breath brushing her lips moments before his mouth does.
After only a millisecond of hesitation, Lilac kisses him back, the dread in her stomach easing at his touch. The guilt this inspires is almost suffocating. Yet, she kisses him fully, allowing herself to get lost in his scent. When they pull apart, she summons an easy smile.
This was everything I hoped for Bree 🤩🤩 first of all, Rethan Amsey could never. He probably wouldn’t even notice if Lilac was with another man 🙄
My favorite trope in fics is when Ethan gets jealous and then tries to hide it behind enforcing hospital rules. I remember you did it before in All I Ask, and I literally die laughing every time 😂😂

A few headcanons of my MC and Ethan's future in case anyone wants to know what happens after OH ❤️
Proposal
Ethan’s not sure he wants to get married
But after Eve becomes an attending, and they settle into his apartment together, it plays on his mind.
He's happy for Eve to lead but she never brings it up and despite all her friends and Naveen constantly pestering him, they're happy as they are.
But he can't stop thinking about it. At first he doesn't want Eve to miss out on married life because of him but after a while, he realises he wants it.
So he buys a ring. Antique and vintage, he takes forever to chose it but he finds one that's perfect.
Diamonds with an emerald and a sapphire hidden in the band, the colour of his and Eve's eyes.
The first time he tries to propose he plans an elaborate dinner on the balcony. Eve comes home from her shift, eats cereal and falls asleep.
The second time, 3 months later, they're on vacation, back in Hawaii, and he imagines the lilt of the moon against the sky as he says the words. They end up....distracted. And don't leave their hotel suite.
The third time he tries is after Eve finds out she's pregnant. It's 6 months since he got the ring, and he's really ready now. Then she makes a joke about how her grandma had a shotgun wedding and "thank god they're not in the 1950s anymore" and he reconsiders his timing.
The fourth time he almost proposes after his son is born. He has the ring ready.
But then Eve looks up at him with this tiny bundle in her arms and jokes that she's "worried the baby looks like Tobias".
And just like that... he's utterly complete with the perfect family he thought he'd never have.
Children
Eve loves kids and knows Ethan does too. But she's all about her career, so she doesn't really focus on it. Or her birth control.
3 years into Eve being an attending, when she skips breakfast and feels sick, Ethan knows why.
He doesn't say anything until she figures it out for herself but uses the time to process the huge change that might be coming in his life. He finds he likes it. More than likes it.
They end up having 3 kids: Jonah (Joe), Amelia (Lil) and Ella (Elle).
Jonah is exactly like his mum, wild and reckless and gets into scrapes at every turn.
Elle and Lil are daddy's girls, and have a strange way of getting what they want from him.
Marriage
The fifth time Ethan tries to propose is a few weeks after Lil is born. He brings Joe home from kindergarten.
"Why aren't you and mom married?"
The question from his son makes Ethan freeze.
"Because..."
He has no explanation. With the children, and his books and their careers, he never thought to propose again. It felt unnecessary. Superfluous to the life they'd built.
He looks through the doorway at his daughter in Eve's arms, her dark hair in the plump baby's fist as she makes cute faces at her.
There's no reason to be married. Other than he just wants it.
"I don't know," he says to Jonah, "Maybe we should ask her." He calls Eve in.
"Eve, Joe's asking why we're not married."
Her eyes are wide and doe-like, baby Lil still pulling at her hair, as she stumbles for a reply. And in that moment he realises they've somehow never talked about it.
"I can't think of an answer. So maybe we can fix that." Ethan says, showing her a glimpse of the same ring he's had for 4 years.
They get married in the courthouse. Just their friends and family and 3 children with bright blue eyes. Nothing changes for them. Nothing has to.
Career
Ethan finally writes his second book after Eve becomes an attending. They both stay at Edenbrook.
Ethan's focus stays on Diagnostics but Eve really cares about free healthcare. She works more shifts at the clinic and helps Mass Kenmore set up their own free clinic.
Eventually she works her way up to being Chief of the hospital at Edenbrook after Naveen retires.
It helps her influence policy and get funding from the right sources, especially after Bloom leaves.
She likes being Ethan's boss. He's mellowed by then but still leads the Diagnostics team fiercely.
When he does play up, which he still does, especially with new interns, she has her ways of making him pay.
Bonus Valentine-Ramsey
After they're married Jonah takes full credit for his parents wedding
He sees how easily he can get what he wants. His next project is to get a dog.
He doesn't realise Eve is planning on getting a puppy anyway for Ethan.
So after weeks of begging, when a little golden lab shows up on Christmas Day, 4yo Jonah is in awe of his own power.
Eve names the puppy Kylie, in memory of Ethan's dog Jenner.
Ethan never gets the joke.
