The brunette smiled, thankful for the honesty in answer. The last statement made her laugh and she shook her head. “No offense,, but you smell like the wettest of wet dogs. I wouldn’t try anything even if my eyes were red.”

“My girlfriend.” Luke said smiling. “Well girlfriend/imprint and one of my best friends! She’s an amazing artist! She’s on holiday with her mom right now so I’m doing double shifts so the others can spend time with their own imprints. But we still talk-” He stopped and turned to her, giving her a shy smile. “Sorry, you probably don’t really care about all that. The others always say I talk too much about her.”

“Not at all!” The brunette chuckled, tucking a hair behind her ear. “I think it’s sweet. She must be a very lucky girl.” She looked around at her surroundings realizing that she had never been to this part of the woods before. “I’m still looking for my mate, so I can’t really relate, but I certainly hope I will eventually.”

“I’m sure you’ll find him!” Luke said, giving her a hopefull look. “Or her. I don’t want to assume.” He saw her looking around and pointed to their right. “The Sol Duc River is that way. I’m sure if you concentrate a little you can hear the water running. We’ll meet it in about six miles, thats where the spot I told you about is. Then if you follow it upsteam you pass by Forks without getting into town.”

“Him. I think- I only ever had boyfriends when I was human. Granted I also had strict parents… but that’s beside the point. I honestly don’t know what to expect, but I’m sure you’re right.” She returned the smile, hoping she might actually be forming her first friendship since she became a vampire. “It’s beautiful here.”

“Don’t worry, you have eternity to find them right?” Luke shrugged a little. “They’re out there somewhere.” He looked around, taking in the scenery as well. “It is, I never get tired of it. You shoud visit in the winter as well, the snow makes it even more magical.”

“That is true.” Bree chuckled, hopping over a couple rocks as she followed behind him. “I imagine. I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. This seems like a pretty good place to live for a vampire. Oh! I’m Bree, by the way.” She added, realizing for the first time that she had not formally introduced herself.

He stopped, turned around and extended a hand. “I’m Luke!” He said smiling. “It’s nice to meet you Bree! And you should stay. Honestly a bunch of vampires have been around lately. Not just the Cullens. So you could as well.”

Bree reached out and shook his hand, smiling at the simple but kind gesture. “It’s nice to meet you too! And so I’ve heard. And I have to ask- why are you being so nice to me? I’ve always heard that werewolves aren’t big fans of vampires…”

“Well, it’s just who I am I guess. I don’t like violence. Plus since Jake imprinted on a hybrid, and Seth on a vampire things have changed.” He answered simply. “Also your eyes are gold which means you eat only animals. And I’ve been in human form the entire time and you haven’t tried anything so why should I?”

Luke was out patroling on his own when he caught the smell of an unknown vampire. He followed the scent towards a clearing in the woods where he saw a dark haired girl. He quickly changed form and put his clothes on, before making his way to her. “Hey!” He said once he was near her, “sorry but vampires aren’t really allowed here. Are you lost? I can help you go back to the Cullen house if you want.”

You would think that with her vampire hearing, Bree would have known he was coming, but she did. She jumped, letting out a frightened Yelp when he spoke. Whipping around to see who it was, the dark haired girl hugged herself close as she listened, her golden eyes gleaming as she nodded along. She may not have been trained or be a part of a Coven, but she had the discipline to learn to feed off animals. “I- I’m sorry… I didn’t know… I- I really don’t know the Cullen’s very well… I- I was just d-doing some exploring… I didn’t…. I’m so sorry.”

“Hey, hey, it’s okay!” Luke tried to reasure her, taking a step towards her he raised his hands but stopped not wanting to scare her even more. For a vampire she was pretty jumpy. “It’s fine really!” He tried again, “most vampires don’t know about it either.” He gave her a reasuring smile. “If you don’t know the Cullens then maybe I can help you get back into town. Or I could introduce you, most vampires want to meet them and you seem to share their diet so…”

Bree’s panicked breathing subsided slowly but surely when she saw that he was being genuine. She had had a rough encounter with a werewolf of a very different temperament a couple days before. The brunette nodded slowly, sure she would have been blushing at his adorable smile if she had still been human. “Um…. I do know them a little bit. But they- uh…. they think I’m dead…. I’d rather not have to explain that again to another group of vampires….”

“Oh!” Luke muttered, confusion and surprise mixing in his voice. “I can still help you get back into town, or just across the treaty line if you still want to explore a bit.” He offered with a smie. “It’s really beautiful around here this time of the year!”

“It’s a long story….” She mumbled before shyly pushing a lick of hair behind her ear. The brunette nodded slowly, letting her curls bounce. “It really is. I’ve never been here before so some help finding my way back would be very helpful.”

“Come on then.” He gestured moving towards the tree line. “Theres this amazing spot near the treaty line you just have to see. It’s full of flowers! Mack has drawn like a million times, it’s her favourite spot!”
