These two pictures are only about a year and a half apart and I can definitely say it has been the greatest change I’ve made in my life. Never been happier or healthier. Went from 172 to 135 :)
// #lovingyogis day 11: peacock pose with lotus legs
this is a very challenging arm balance, and it’s still very much a work in progress for me! so if you can’t do it, please don’t be discouraged! we all start somewhere! <: this may also be pretty intense on your wrists too so please be very careful!
modifications: lotus pose, lion pose, (and if you want to add in some arm balance) side crow pose
some tips to make this pose more accessible:
1. having your fingers point towards the side may give you more balance and stability. play around with your palms and see which works better for you. my yoga instructor prefers having her fingers point backwards, and personally it’s easier for me when i have my fingers point towards the side.
2. remember, arm balances is about creating that shelf with your triceps. in this case, you will create the shelf by hugging your elbows very close together, so that there is space for you to balance your torso on. your chest should be on your triceps.
3. shift your gaze towards the front of your mat instead of right in front of you. that creates a nice line from the crown of your head towards your back.
4. engage your core and lift your knees! the full expression of this pose would be a nice straight line. <: (mine’s like a full 90 degrees for now but i’ll get there!)
feel free to ask me any questions if you have any doubts. as i’ve said, this is a challenging asana. so if you can’t get it, don’t worry! don’t force yourself into the pose and please listen to your body! xx
