In general, his design has a lot of ballet-like aspects such as the short, tutu-like skirts, his shoes, and the way he twirls and dances in his animations. (Also the way he bows after his ult!!) I think it's really neat that they chose to go for this kind of vibe for Enkidu, their take on his character is so unique and beautiful. Ballet is a beautiful and elegant sport regardless of gender, which is a big part of Enkidu's identity.
His design obviously has a lot of feminine-leaning aspects, from long hair and more feminine outfits, though as a whole if you look closely, you can see how as a whole, his design has a lot of balance and references to his story and identity throughout his evolutions.
You can see Enkidu’s more wild side with this design. His hair isn’t tied up. He has a sort of collar-like accessory, maybe representing the restraints on himself as he transitions from a wild beast to more human-like. His outfit seems to be a mixture of both fem and masc as you can still visibly see the bloomers. It’s like a combination of both, representing his transition into being able to learn about his identity.
His secondary design is visibly more feminine and more well kept. His hair is tied back, even adorned with a bow. He fully embraces the more elegant clothing and he lost the collar-like accessories. I believe this might represent him both adapting into being more human-like, and also exploring his identity more deeply, especially the more feminine side, representing him breaking through typical gender stereotypes and once again exploring that side of him.
His design in the third one feels the most developed (obviously), because it feels the most elegant and complete. He has shorts this time, but from the other pieces of clothing it looks like a skirt. His hair is tied up yet it lacks the bow, which is now on his skirt. I just feel like as a whole, it represents how he grew into his identity with a balance of both feminine and more masculine aspects, especially how his bloomers/shorts also look like a skirt at the same time.
4. This is my favorite design <3 his hair isn’t tied up anymore and his horns have grown significantly, representing his beastly side and him embracing that part of him. There isn’t any accessory that seems like it’s restraining him, and the collar-like elements have turned into a nice, flat necklace with a heart gem on it, representing peace and the balance between the two sides. His outfit is more longer and elegant, showing that despite what anyone says, he continues to dress how he likes and express himself to his content.
In general, throughout his evolutions, you can see how his horns grow bigger, which is arguably the most important part of his design. Horns in animal culture are often seen as a sign of masculinity and status in animals like bulls, deer, etc, and they use them for fighting and to protect their territory, which I feel also fits Enkidu given his status as a king. His mannerisms and appearance are all so gentle and friendly, I feel like his horns serve as a subtle reminder of his status and strength.
ARGHHH in general I just think his design is so beautiful and represents the balance of his character and identity as a whole :)) I absolutely love the message of his story and how labels don't define someone's identity, and no matter what anyone thinks of you, you'll always be yourself.
