I’m a diehard fan of RM and have been since I watched many many many years ago (The hyper-fixation kicked back into full gear). but one thing I reallyyyyyy hate about their relationship (and kinda ryan’s character) is the rhetoric that Marissa “destroyed ryan’s life” mentioned on more than one occasion.
Like yes marissa had a somewhat dramatic life but she wanted to handle things on HER OWN. She even wanted ryan to leave her alone at times. Ryan would create chaos in her life (punching luke at the diner) and then leave her to deal with the collateral. She’s always getting blamed for ryan’s impulsiveness and it doesn’t sit right with me at all. Ryan was always hotheaded he literally got sent to juvi and then stole cars for his brother but marissa never once held that over his head and I already know it’s because Marissa is not that type of person. Once she helped someone she Really helped them she cares too much about people. It just really bothers me that the writers and the audience tries to frame the mentally Ill teen girl (who’s also dealing with substance abuse and has little to no parental guidance) as this massive weight in Ryan’s life how come no one ever questions how irrational he is? The double standards really tick me off
