i just think some people are trying to jump through hoops and bend over backwards trying to defend why they don’t like certain songs and it feels so unnecessary! you can just say you didn’t like it and move on that’s perfectly fine! but once you start comparing it to past songs is where you’ve lost me. albums should be able to exist all on their own without the weight of all her past work behind it

I don’t know why some people find it so difficult to accept the fact that Taylor Swift has the ability do both: lighthearted pop bangers and wistful, poetically complex ballads. And neither cancels the other out. You were mad that midnights was too poppy and then mad again when TTPD was too wordy and elaborate and now the cycle repeats with Showgirl. Meanwhile she’s been demonstrating an interest in both sides of this spectrum since her debut album. This is the person who wrote both Our Song and Tied Together With A Smile when she was in high school. God forbid an artist has range and is inspired to work within different genres/moods/approaches to songwriting at different points in her life.
