another good thing about Mushishi- positive representation of scientists/academic people. Im SOOO sick of the evil scientist trope when most scientists are relatively harmless or are really working hard to improve the world. Ginko and other characters are most definitely very academically oriented and curious, but use their knowledge for good. Very refreshing

There are many reasons Mushishi is my favorite anime, but it is the quiet assurance throughout of the value of life and living, no matter the form that life may take, that continues to stick with me most. It's understated, but powerful. Ginko, who sees himself as outside the natural order, an existence neither truly human or mushi, he too, has a place, as all life does. Like the mushi, there is worth in simply being. There is nowhere we do not belong.

just thinking about a Nui and Ginko mushishi pair. of them just waking in looking like the same person with their cigarette and white hair, but not being related at all and inadvertently creeping everyone out before helping them, then laughing about it later in the forest, and Nui watching Ginko grow up and him having a kind of mother or mentor figure in his life, and both of them not feeling like they have to be alone after the loss of their families and Nui not disintegrating…😭

the still of the choir/band/sports bus when everyone gets sleepy on the way back from a successful performance

waking up from an impromptu cat-nap in the sunbathed afternoon

the way your house feels after a cherished visitor leaves to return to their own home

completing a long session of studying and taking personal notes
