  As we’re all starting to realize, the 2013 NFL draft is all about the defenders. From the line backwards, this is more than a deep draft on the defensive side of the ball. One such position that includes a bunch of excellent  talents is the safety position.

  When trying to see what kind of safety can be separated from the chaff you must look at physical talents. Of course he has to be able to knock the ball down, but let’s be honest – it’s about speed, vertical jumping and athleticism.

  One player who is well beyond all the others in this regard is Eric Reid.

Sleeper QB’s To Watch In The NFL Draft

The NFL draft is right around the corner and while the first few pick seem to be lineman it is the quarterbacks that are still getting a lot of attention. Most of the focus is on West Virginia’s Geno Smith who seems poised to be a top five pick. But drafting is QB with a high pick has always been a bit of a crap shoot.

  There have been spectacular flameouts like Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell. While late rounders like Tom Brady and undrafted players like Kurt Warner go on to be Super Bowl champions and legends of the game.

  No disrespect to Geno Smith but let’s take a look at three QB’s that may turn out to be real bargains and lead there team to glory.

Being compared to Ed Reed in his ability to make plays. Made huge momentum changing playes in 2012. Dealt with suspension but still one of most intriguing stories in 2013 NFL Draft.

Top 5 Biggest NFL Draft Bust !

1.  Ryan Leaf – Second pick overall who was 0-1 in playoffs and is more known for infamous outburst after playoff loss: “Just don’t f—ing talk to me, all right!”. Another on-camera incident involved Leaf confronting a heckling Charger fan during a practice session. Two coaches had to restrain Leaf and escort him off the field.  He finished his rookie year with QB rating of 39.  Leaf also allegedly lied about a hand injury in order to get out of practice so that he could play golf instead.  Leaf finished his career with 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.

2.  JaMarcus Russell – Another first overall pick who was basically achild in man’s body.  Raiders signed him to a contract worth $61 million with $32 million guaranteed. In three seasons with the Raiders, Russell finished 7-18 as a starter before his release on May 6, 2010 after ballooning up to 290 lbs.  On September 26, 2010, Russell had moved to Houston, Texas, and was working out with former NBA standout and head coach John Lucas and was also consulting with him as a ‘life coach.’  In April 2011, Lucas, who had become frustrated with Russell’s lack of work ethic, reportedly severed all ties with the quarterback and asked him to leave the Houston area.

First NFL Mock Draft - Inspirational

1.  INDIANAPOLIS COLTS:   ANDREW LUCK, QB, STANFORD

    Worst kept secret in sports.  Peyton won’t be back, second worst kept secret. 

  2.  WASINGTON REDSKINS: ROBERT GRIFFIN III, QB, Baylor 

   Danny Boy agrees to give the Rams all their remaining draft picks for the rest of the decade and his favorite Napoleon costume.  

  3.  MINNESOTA VIKINGS:   MATT KALIL, OT, USC

Sounds like they are sticking with Ponder (for now).  They have a lot of needs.  Protecting Ponder’s backside is the only way to give him a chance to develop.

Other possibilities: Justin Blackmon or Morris Claiborne

Who will be 1st pick overall in 2012

Andrew Luck (6'4 235 lbs) QB Stanford - most awaited QB to enter the NFL Draft in years.  He will enter the 2011 season as the Heisman trophy favorite. Luck passed for almost 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2010.  What we like about Luck is his quick release and accuracy combined with intelligence.  His mobility will surprise you and his toughness is unquestionable (see his video here: Andrew Luck Highlights). At Stanford, he is currently playing in a pro-style offense and received pro-style coaching from former head coach/NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh. Luck will need his throwing motion refined at NFL level as he has tendency to hold ball at his waist and use wind-up motion before getting to his release point.

AFC East – Draft Grades 2011

Buffalo Bills – The Bills came into this draft needing playmakers, especially on defense. They started out with a “bang” by landing an instant impact player in Marcell Dareus. Plainly put, Dareus is stud and should be able to do for Buffalo’s D what Suh did for the Lions D last year. In round 2 they were able to land a very good player and immediate starting cornerback in Aaron Williams. In round 3 they got versatile linebacker Kelvin Sheppard who will be in the rotation as a rookie and a starter shortly down the road.
