it was great i got the chance to do so before i just let myself stick to my bubble. it really was and i wish it had been longer so i could have seen much more. oh, they were easily especially when they noticed we all had went to la after we had come back together as a group. i don't either. it has been great. thanks! i'll be sure to give you some great feedback. of course! i'll be as honest as i can be. it really is. like it had us all being much more chaotic on stage than usual. i felt like i was hit by a truck but it was worth it, haha. well, we did shows in stanford and now we're in vegas at the moment. we're also gonna be performing at the amas as well.
think that it wasn't longer was my only complaint really but it was enough. sounds like they don't miss much. were at least some a bit surprised when you did end up releasing? i'm looking forward to it. the more honest, the better - no matter what that looks like. no surprised in the least since that's usually the easiest way to up the chaos no matter what you're doing. those watching you all on stage got themselves a one of a kind experience. how long did it take you to recover after? no rest for you guys it sounds. have fun in vegas and at the amas. i'll be sure to catch that just to see what you guys do.
bbcradio1: oh hi @niallhoran ๐
itโs good to be back.
i never really know how my brain works, so maybe one day i'll annoy you enough for you to tell me to fuck off. me too, though. if we ever do that, i hope people care enough to think we're the best actors in the world. one direction shippers were some of the weirdest people on earth, what was the name of our ship again? ziall? completely insane. the funniest part is that i can actually picture you doing mixology classes, did you learn anything at all? i'm glad you had fun. now we know, if we ever urgently need him, we just have to call adele first and she'll do her thing. think lad has secretly crush on her or something.
maybe and again, been all this time without that so maybe your brain just works different with me. i hope so, too. might as well get some credit for the work we put in. that might even start some cries for us to start acting for real then after. yeah, that sounds about right. they really never met a pairing they didn't love. probably still holding on hope one of them comes true one day, too. learned a bit, yeah. not about to claim to be a professional but i can whip a pretty good cocktail now. no big deal. seriously but at least we know how to get his attention from now on. just mention her and that should do the trick.
nick: thanks for not giving us a hard time about the acting, man! maybe that won't stop people from revisiting it every christmas. oh, i think a lot of people would argue i'm one of those multi-hyphenate types juggling ten careers at once. i don't think your american accent is any worse than my attempt at an irish one, so quit stalling and get to work on it already! nick: absolutely not. i'm rejecting that energy entirely. if i lose, i lose, but i'm not walking onto that course manifesting defeat. you're just trying to get in my head before we even start...
niall: i've seen worse so no way i was going to give you much shit. i think it's safe to say you're making a lot of people's holiday rotations from here on out. really? you do have a lot going on seemingly endlessly. damn, demanding, jonas. very offended i've never heard this attempt at an irish accent, too. maybe you need to quit stalling and set yourself up for getting made fun of a little... potentially. niall: get in your head? i would never. i always play fair and honest.
Exactly. People see the final polished version of things and forget there are actual human beings inside the machine trying to figure themselves out while millions of people are watching. And the internet never really lets you leave a phase behind either. Somewhere out there is always a meme waiting to humble you at the exact wrong moment. But I completely get what you mean. Thereโs a difference between missing something and wanting to go back to it exactly as it was. I think that's what I feel about Marvel, I miss it sometimes, especially watching Chris, RDJ, Hemsworth, Seb, all going back to it but it's not necessarily something I would go back to, myself. And I think youโre right about the solo work too. One Direction was such a huge phenomenon that sometimes people forgot you were all individual artists underneath it. Itโs been really nice watching everyone carve out their own identity and sound over the years instead of being seen as one giant unit all the time.
it's kind of like how people see things posted on social media and assuming it's all that's going on. never do they think about the behind the scenes aspects and the human element to it all. bit crazy that it's still the case. yeah, the memes don't miss, right? they keep people on their toes. exactly. i think now it's impossible to ever go back to it but even if it was, just don't think it'd work with how we all have grown. you all struck gold with what you had the first go around with everything marvel so i get wanting to hold it there. plus like with the boys, you all have moved on and done your own thing so it's not like it'd be the same versions of yourself revisiting that. i think that's why a lot of bands end up having some go solo more often than not these days. you want to build your own identity and make your own things. we were always tied together and at the hands of the people managing us so there wasn't much room for much individuality.
Maybe it's because I try to play more than just Wonderwall and people like my strumming. Next time I come see you, mate, I'll bring the banjo. You're doing the Big Weekend, this weekend, aren't you? I'll come watch you, and we can have a jam backstage.
i'm sure you get plenty of requests for wonderwall regardless. thanks for being around for it. hope it wasn't too obvious that it's been over a year and half since i last was on a stage. we'll have to make jamming out more of a habit when we can.
Which means I did my job right, you can't expect the public to go watch movies in the cinema if they're not made to be watched in them, right? Doesn't make sense. No, I've actually been producing or exec producing stuff since way back in 2010 with Blue Valentine. I love being involved in the behind the scenes, I feel like I do more for the movie as a whole as a producer than an actor. Yeah? That's gonna keep you busy, for sure. Can't believe I have to wait a whole year to see you play in LA, though. Why you gotta keep me, personally, waiting?
i think everyone would agree that you do it right every time. oh wow, didn't realise but that's awesome, mate. would you go into directing next? or just sticking to those two things? it's got to be pretty cool seeing it all from the perspective behind the scenes. think more people would have a much bigger appreciation for movies and shows if they knew even half of what it takes to make them happen. i'm so sorry. i really had you in mind completely and it was all a matter of hoping that if i made it enough time out, you'd be able to free yourself to come. know you're plenty busy and all.
they come to a few throughout the season but not a lot so i appreciate it a fuck ton when they do come. mhm, you sure do. getting to rattle people's just half the fun of it all. good, i expect you to be a master in shit talking by the end of it. when you least expect it, niall! that's when.
that must be a highlight game for you every time. i'm sure the same could be said for them, too. you're opening me up to a new side of things. feel like there's plenty of other sports missing that trash talking element. i'm in the early stages so just you wait. i'll be a pro in no time.
A lot, at least. And if there's something I love, it's pop music, man. Yeah, Napa was great, a nice little getaway and my first vacation since the pre-season, so I think I earned it. You have been? From who? I do love talking trash. Half of it is just making shit up, and gauging what they react to, and really playing into that as the game goes on, you know what I mean? It's not just about saying something in the moment, you've gotta be riling them up all game long for the full effect.
you got good taste then. oh yeah, more than earned it then. hope you got to take full advantage of it, too. your teammate.. jamie. blew up your spot pretty easily, too. i had a hard time believing him but now it's clearly true. you put some dedication into it then. got to respect that. i'm sure you get under a lot of people's skin but hey, that might be exactly what's needed to throw them off their game a little.
DUA: Thank you, itโs been a tough road for this small independent artist, but Iโm staying hopeful. Maybe one day youโll hear one of my songs in a supermarket or something. DUA: And oh, absolutely. I expect at least three 'where should I eat?' texts from you once tour starts. I take my travel recommendations very seriously, so donโt waste this privilege. DUA: Hmm, drinks are a strong bargaining tool. Fine. That bumps you up from half a reward to maybe a whole one. Unfortunately, it couldn't happen in Napa, but you still owe me those drinks.
niall: got to keep hope alive. let me know if i can plug your spotify or something. anything to help. niall: you read my mind since those would be the first kinds of texts i send. you better not steer me wrong. i'll be taking full advantage. niall: maybe a whole? tough crowd. you can put me in as an i owe you then since we missed napa. it'll give me some time to think of something else to add to the mix so that you get rid of that maybe.
i hear you there, though the nerves that come with releases always make me want it over and done with the get past those. not to mention promo puts on extra pressure for having to be reminded of everything i'm nervous about! i know it's probably better to enjoy the ride though, like you said. not too long now though, how are you feeling? i hope you've been balancing all the nonstop with some relaxation where you can. and thanks, mate! things are going pretty well. i'm working on a peaky blinders show so doesn't get much better than that to me.
i can imagine press gets a bit tiring, too. the lot of you always tend to be asked the same questions over and over again. joking around on that should hopefully help with the nerves a bit at least. i'm feeling good. nervous of course but mostly excited. i think being so close it's just the stage where i want it out there for everyone to hear already. cheers, that's awesome. big fan of that show so makes me happy hearing you're attached to it someway.
Underdog stories are great, but if they happen too often in real life, they stop being exciting. Honestly glad we're up against the Cavaliers, since the Pistons were the top of the east. In theory that means we have the advantage now, but the beauty of the playoffs is you still have no idea what to expect. Do you spend much time in Ireland still?
you're right. seems like things are all good there though since it only happens few and far between still these days. i see they took that advantage and have run with it. could sweep back-to-back series with this one, right? just one away. i know the city's got to be mad right now with how things are going. i haven't been back in awhile but when i have my tour in the fall i'll be heading over before it starts to spend some time there for a bit.
you're working on a new album, or just writing in general? that's really cool either way, though pretty sure a lot of people would be excited by a sneak preview of sorts. it's a good test on whether they've seen the things i've been in, right? and if they don't recognize the lines, i banish them from my life, clearly. but no, my parents are probably the only ones who realize i'm doing it because they're so used to it.
finished a new album. just under 2 weeks before it comes out now. i've released a few songs off it already so enough of a teaser before the full thing. perfect strategy there. hoping you won't have to do too much banishing. they've got to be proud and a little exciting getting that peak into things.
i hope they won't ever go away. and it'd be funny if one of them made an old coach pop out to vouch for one of the current ones. you all have shined and i feel like thrived more solo than in the group as a whole. i'm sure it's hard to have all your voices heard in a group like that.
i hope so, too. got plenty used to having them around and couldn't agree more. it's been good to see what they all can do on their own and getting to be a fan of them has been one of my favourite parts of this journey.
i saw! and you best believe i'll be scoring tickets for that as soon as they're available! it's more than enough time, i'll move things around if i have to!
you let me know how many you need and for where and i'll make it happen for you. i'm trying to do what i can to make sure the ticket sale situation isn't a nightmare for people but happy to help you avoid it.
