9 reasons to read The Saint of Steel series

Just spreading The Good Word here about a criminally underrated series...

(1) The paladins are both badass men and women that come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

(2) The love interests are a perfumer, a lay-priestess, a CORONER (ILU Piper), and a spy respectively - no "LI must be a badass warrior" energy.

(3) The romances are sweet and not full of bizarre abuse masked as love.

(4) For you 30+ folks: everyone has lower back and knee pain because they're all adults with plenty of lived experience behind them. The paladins have undergone horrors unimaginable; the LIs have had bad divorces, things gone wrong in their plans and lives, or are in possession of useful but horrible powers.

(5) Bishop Beartongue. No more needs to be said.

(6) The Church of the White Rat is just amazing. A church built entirely on helping others that... actually does it? Also, I LOVE the concept of a Solicitor Sacrosanct (aka, a holy lawyer).

(7) The worldbuilding is superb, and intentional and consistent.

(8) EARSTRIPE!

(9) The fantasy horror T. Kingfisher injects into the series is topnotch. The hivewarren? NOPE. The Smooth Men? NOPE. Demonic possession? NOPE. Horrible labyrinths? NOPE. Get to the story with Stachys and you'll see what I mean.

When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Vida Kelley is a beautiful mermaid book with a m/m romance subplot where a young man is hired by a circus to build a tank for a strange new creature

there's also Out of the Blue by Jason June which is about a mermaid-esque creature going into the human world before they decide where they want to spend the rest of their life

and there's gotta be a f/f mermaid book on my shelves somewhere so if i remember what it is, i shall report back 🫡

The Mermaid's Daughter by Ann Claycomb is a sapphic expansion of the original fairytale where the main character is a descendant of the original mermaid.

I'm currently reading How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying, which is about Davi, The Chosen One, being stuck in a time loop and eventually getting sick of constantly failing to The Dark Lord, so she decides to become The Dark Lord instead. It's so far giving me very heavy Dungeon Crawler Carl vibes

Because publishing houses will not continue printing paper books if libraries are their only customers.

Also, I like being able to read at my leisure and generally have books at hand.

#public libraries are good because they let people access books they might never otherwise read#private book ownership is good because it's Yours#physical books are good because they last a long time and again it's Yours#ebooks are good because you can fit a whole library into the physical space of a single book and they're cheaper to produce#audiobooks are good because they're accessible to people with eyesight or visual reading issues and leave your hands free#in conclusion: all books are good and people should enjoy them however and whenever they can#(lest it be misunderstood I agree with you completely OP I just also really like books in general and it got away from me)
