1. They’ve never considered that thing with Hanson a rivalry.

2. They’ve never met the boys of Hanson.

3. They’re more into country music now.

4. Dave is now a yoga instructor. Turns out he came out of the closet. The three boys support him thoroughly. 

5. The first time they realised they made it big was during their first visit to Manila.

6. They love doing Facebook live performances.

7. A lot of their “classic” songs don’t really reflect where they are in life now.

8. They like San Miguel.

Oh boy, it’s October. Last month during this year was challenging.

I have to give credit where credit is due. This is an unexpected banger.

When I saw the “In The Mix” lineup announced a few months back, I knew I need to be there. True, I wasn’t quite feeling the poster - but the beefy lineup is reason enough for me to show up.

Thanks to Smart once again, I found myself smack in the middle of the pit. With unbeatable views of P!ATD, Elle King, 3EB, James Bay, Twin Pines and The 1975 - which officially is the foreign band I’ve seen the most. 8 times! Fallout Boy falls back to 6.  Along side the fun, Smart also gave away prizes here and there - including a meet and greet which Carlo and I availed in no time. We got to say hello to 3EB and PATD. It was sweet, albeit super short. But the high res pic is already a solid reminder of the encounter. Another side event, the telco had a booth where in you can try out your luck to win a slot for a trip to LA as a Youtube star. Pretty sweet - too bad I’m talentless.

Back to the show, it’s obvious I’m gonna fall in love with the set of The 1975, but Panic! was indeed the surprise of the night. A massive ball of energy, the band went overdrive in no time. No holds barred, P!ATD just showed why they’re still relevant AF. The power of adrenalin made my knees work. I was jumping, pushing, shoving around kids in the name of fun. Lol, the next day I felt the pain.

“In The Mix” definitely ranks in the top shows I’ve been to this year. And if they deliver another show like this come 2017, then sign me up again for it.

Selena was entertaining. Despite seeing her semi stressed state when she got mobbed at the airport, her onstage persona was a total 180. She was sweet, endearing and a whole way more glamorous. Surprisingly, all her singles were familiar to me. Weirdly enough, my favorite was “Who Says”. I am a tween like that. Na na na na na na na na naaaaa.

To celebrate and break even more barriers when it comes to going digital, Smart Communications presents to its subscribers a free concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum featuring some of the country’s most exciting artists. 

Dubbed as Smart Music Live, the concert features Crwn, Up Dharma Down, Nathan Sykes, Autotelic, Aegis and Ely Buendia.

“Smart Music Live is just the tip of the iceberg because there’s an entire roster of international acts to witness and experience in the coming months if you’re a Smart subscriber. This July 14 music fusion signals a series of live concerts, up close and personal experiences because we know that music is one of the pillars of digital entertainment alongside videos, movies, TV serials and gaming—all of these and more are now part of the digital habit of our consumers,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, FVP and Head of Wireless Consumer Operations for Smart.

 And oh what a spectacle!

The stage production treated every artist its own theme, and there was no scrimping on the technical side. It’s really great seeing homegrown talent give a world class staging. Personally, got emo over UDD’s set with the whole of big dome singing along. It was just beautiful.

So why did I book some expensive hotel in Mactan and just spend the night alone? Cause I can. And cause I know friends won’t allow me to spend it alone.

I’ve actually muddled the real reason why I went to Cebu for the weekend. Part of me just wanted to escape, the other to support friends, the other other...for a birthday. But can we just settle for the fact I really had no reason. I just flew.

I went to the Smart/PLDT event expecting swanky alcohol and the reveal of the rebrand of the telcos, but totally did not see coming Eheads reuniting for a set. I got a text from Owel of Ang Bandang Shirley confirming this, and a sudden deluge of “waaaaaaaaat” went over me. None of the Smart peeps were denying nor confirming, so I guess it was true.

Catching Eheads in Rizal Ballroom, with a room full of iPhones and champagne at first felt strange. It’s the first time I’ve seen them in a very swanky setting. No Red Horse in hand, no cigarette (I still used to smoke). The muddy grass of Sunken Garden is replaced with the plush carpet of Shang. But whatever the setting was, the music and what it meant still holds something personal. Whether it was “Fine Time”, “Julie Tearjerky” or even “Alapaap” or “Pare Ko”, these songs were greeted with fondness.

In a way that’s how I felt with the logo change. It may be different, but it’s still personal. And that’s what’s important really - it’s how it impacts you.

A new day indeed. And I’m glad Eheads ushered that in.

Fun is always expected in pop shows. Despite not knowing an artist’s full  discography, the polished makings and undeniable hook are elements present in any popstar’s repertoire. Add their colorful production, and you’re in for a good time. Exactly what happened during Red Foo and Jason Derulo.
