coltonlhaynes: Day 1 on #ArrowSeason3 !!! Roy Harper is going through some rough changes…
Bottom of Everything ♤ Nick and Austin
Everything about the place screamed sketchy to him, from the way the people looked at him, the way Nick’s car appeared so poignantly out of place and even the way his cousin seemed to move so differently amidst the prying eyes. Even the alarms so normally on high alert when it came to him rang even louder in his ears now than they did before. This wasn’t normal. This wasn’t safe. And Nick looked too in his element in this part of the city for this to be anything but normal. But Nick wanted him to trust him and against his better judgment, Austin did. He’d save all his questions for later.
Following his orders, Austin did his best to keep his gaze on the floor, only looking around here and there to see where he was going. The eyes on him didn’t go unnoticed, nor the peculiar lacking of bystanders except for ones suspiciously more bulkier than the two of them. They were kids. Everyone else looked like armed gunmen compared to them. And that just added another tick to the numerous questions he had for his cousin he’d have to remember to ask later. Looking up from the ground as Nick spoke again, he’d opened his mouth to ask something, his eyebrows raised and tongue caught in the middle of his throat when the door opened just behind him.
He ignored yet again the constant buzzing in his ear telling him this wasn’t safe in any way; more invested in ensuring they both get out of this with minimal scratches and finding out what kind of people Nick had been dealing with behind their backs. It didn’t look anywhere remotely good and the fact that no one else knew about this made him even more worried. “You know I’ll have to ask you about this some other day, right?” It was more of a question than a warning, a reminder for both of them that this was indeed happening and that they hadn’t walked into a set for some 1950’s gangster movie.
With a slight chuckle, Nick shrugged. "Have at it." Came his short reply before the door opened to show a small, but crowded lower level. A large man gazed at the boys before stepping aside to let them in. Without a word, Nick walked across the threshold and towards what he hoped was a kitchen. Growing up in billion dollar condos hadn't given him much experience in the layout of this house, but he could wing it. Sweat coated his palms. Another, small man waited for them in the kitchen, seemingly nonchalant of the newcomers. But Nick knew better. He knew there were at least two guns pointed at him and his cousin, ready to fire at any moment. His throat was dry.
"Who's this?" The man asked without turning from the rapidly filling wine glass he held. The outlines of a large scar lurked beneath the man's right eye, his white tank top squeezed at muscles that were too large to realistically fit the man's small frame. Nick forced his voice to remain neutral as he replied.
"This is my brother, Caleb. He handled a few drops for me." As the man nodded, Nick took the small movement as a sign to continue. "This won't be long-- we're just here to give word. Tell Tony I'm done. I don't sell anymore. I paid my dues and I'm finished. Tell him to call them off." After his speech, Nick stood with more confidence than he felt. His heart was pounding but on the outside, he was stock still. This had to work-- he needed his life back. The constant fear, the guns, the lies. He needed it to end.
The man chuckled and sipped his wine. Nick hoped Austin was close, he needed the security. "And you think he's going to listen to that? You think he's going to stop before you're dead too?"
heartbreaks & heartaches | austin & dakota & nick
It was her own personal hell, she thought to herself as the elevator shuddered to a halt. “Seriously?” she muttered under breath as she shuffled a little closer to Austin, having jolted a little in the sudden stopping off the elevator. Her eyes lingered the buttons, searching for the little red button to push in an emergency, her finger darting out and pressing it repeatedly, as though it were to bring help any faster.
"You know Nick. Your commentary is really not appreciated right now mind shutting up?" she snapped, a sharp glare flashing to the boy on the ground shaking with laughter before returning to Austin, flopping down to the ground herself and leaning against the wall with a sigh, her eyes locking on the wall, anywhere other then Nick.
The other boy really didn’t make it easy for Austin not to want to punch his lights out. The more he talked, the more convinced he was he’d end up murdering his cousin if the doors didn’t open any sooner. With another exasperated sigh, he leaned back into the wall, running a hand through his hair while trying to avoid the arrogant boy’s gaze. “She’s right, Nick. Just shut the hell up will you?”
Already feeling more than prickly and a little more than anxious about being locked in the room with them for the night, he’d started taking off his jacket, folding it up long enough for Dakota to sit down in any case she wanted to. “If this is going to be a forecast for the rest of the night, maybe we can just all you know shut it?” He suggested, already too weary to be continuing towards this direction when his head was already hanging low.
Whether they stopped talking or not, he’d stopped paying attention when he remembered his Mom was still up in their apartment and alone. His hand was quick to reach for his phone, looking for reception he wasn’t really going to get in the elevator. Not only because of the low signal but thanks to the storm as well. “Do you guys have any reception?” He asked, already dialling the number just in case by some divine intervention or sheer luck he would reach her but the call wouldn’t even register.

Barely seen through the flickering emergency lights, Nick rolled his eyes once, twice, then three times for good measure. "Don't turn against the person you two hope to use as a punching bag while we're stuck here. I didn't break the elevator; so technically I'm not the bad guy here." That part was a lie. Nick was always the bad guy-- and with good reason. He typically preferred it that way. With kindness came emotions and Nick had no place for them in his life. At least as the bad guy he always came out on top.
He watched his cousin dial a number in vain, making no effort to pull out his own phone. "You told me to shut up, then you ask me to answer a question. Sorry, cousin, doesn't work that way. You two figure that out." Then an idea struck him: there should be an emergency phone in the elevator. When cell phones went out, this phone (being a land line) could make calls to the fire department or 911. It was clear neither of his companions thought of this and Nick wasn't going to be the good guy and tell them. They wanted to make him the enemy? Good, he'd play the role.
Humming a song to himself, Nick watched his cousin before his eyes flickered to Dakota once more. He wasn't even remotely attracted to her anymore now that the chase was complete. That didn't mean he couldn't pretend. She was probably one more drunk night away from his pants anyway, so why not? "We might as well try to get along while we're here. I mean, Austin and I get along-- mildly well. It's only because you're here, Dakota, that he's acting like a girl. I wonder why."

…N-No, I went out with others…People who I believed to be kind. They ditched me as soon as we got to the party, seeing as everyone thought I was dirt under their manicured finger nails and…well, I was alone the rest of the night.
…Except for the one man who I thought was kind to me, a stranger. Little did I know he was just…put up by someone else to drug m-me. For fun.
Well that's your problem right there: you think kind people exist in this city. They don't. You can't trust anyone, Sofia. It may be a tough lesson, but you can't. You got drugged because you chose trust over skepticism.
Who? Who put him up to it? That's some sadistic stuff.
"Uh—What are you doing?"
"I'm admiring God's gift. What're you doing? This is the men's section."
U guys…the monkey bear dog thing is now dancing on me+
“Oh – oh – you should visit my restaurant. I mean not mine but where I work. The people there are pretty cool too and Mark Holland. He’s an amazing cook! Just ignore the fact that he’s an ass sometimes.” Maybe introducing hm to Mark first wouldn’t be such a good idea but hey if he really wanted to learn more about the cooking scene; Mark would be helpful. “And there’s this place – by Central Park – Luigi’s. The old man there’s a great friend too! They have the best bread sticks in town!” He added, pausing again to think of the other people he’d probably want to meet. “If you probably go around the town, they’d probably know me one way or another. There’s no cake shop I haven’t been to that doesn’t know me, I think.”
"Yeah? Where is it?" Mark Holland... The name was filed into his mind for further investigation. First, because he'd never met this "Mark" character. Second, because you are the company you keep. Maybe this Mark guy could give him more insight into who Xavier really was. "So you're a bit of a legend in the cooking scene, I take it. I could tell that when I stepped into your bakery. What else do you do down here? For fun, I mean. Parties? Dates-- how are the girls? I've seen a few so far, but none are really spectacular." He was pushing his luck, but he needed to know how this kid felt about Piper. No matter how much it'd irk him.
…Excuse me? A date with me? You…wa-want me to go out on a date with me?
Why not? Honestly, I can't be any worse than the friends who let you get drugged. Because I'm going to assume you didn't go out by yourself.
Who did you go out with, by the way?
There is no love without pain.
-six word story #9 (via unlovable-bones)
Loud enough. [sighs, shaking her head] I’m sorry, Nick…Just had a rough couple of days.
…I do. I…I we-went to a party the other night though and…[sighs] You’ll find out soon enough, it doesn’t matter, but my drink was spiked.
Obviously. Well don't take out your problems on me-- I've got enough to worry about.
Ooo... So you broke your rule about drinking.... Does this mean you'll go on a date with me? I'm sure you have rules about that too. I mean, since you're breaking rules and all, why not have a little fun with it?
Everybody stops fighting at some point.
