Deer are also habitual people-watchers and enjoy nothing better than quietly ruminating while the world goes by. The outdoors is where they feel most comfortable and they are drawn to the freedom of wide open spaces where their graceful movements and love for music can express themselves.

               “You getting out of here soon?” Nico sounded unrelentingly bored of his current predicament, a result of an adrenaline streak which could never much be satiated within the male. Try as one might, Nico was perpetually restless, tipping back his glass to finish off the last of his beer of choice, “I can’t exactly live off this crappy draft beer you serve forever, plus that chick at three o’clock is giving me the eyes and I’m trying really hard not to bail on our plans.” A shit starting grin was produced in finality, the latter of his extempore rallied out in puckish jest, Dom surely well aware that he would have abandoned this place long ago if he wasn’t keen on hanging out with her later.

The blonde tilted her head, she’d said that line enough times in her several years as high school principal, usually to those students she knew were gifted but, lacking motivation and just needed that final ass kicking to get them moving in the right direction. As she glanced across at Nico though, she found herself fighting the urge to snap a little when her phone buzzed again. She glared in its direction before she pressed her lips into a thin line and huffed, “Would you think any less of me if I called this jack-ass and gave him a what-for?” She questioned, her hand poised to snatch the cell from the table.

               “I’m not sure you care what I’d think on the matter,” brows rose as if challenging her to combat such statement, taking the matter into his own hands, sliding his hand across the table to pick up her phone. “How hurt would they be if they heard another guy on the phone? I  hear some people are sensitive like that, it fucks with their masculinity or something,” an amused breath was huffed out, sliding the phone back to Riva as if relinquishing any sense of control to her, “I do get a bit of enjoyment wondering what you’d say to chew this guys head off, however. Glutton for chaos or whatever.”

worst date you have been on?

              “They drank a whole bottle of wine before dinner. Once we were back at my place they started crying over their ex, literally sobbing, before throwing up in my lap and falling asleep. I think I blocked him before he woke up, I’m a rip the bandaid off kind of guy; that was too much. There was also this one chick, she… kept complaining to the waiter trying to con or way into free meals and all, then she even tried to dash on the meal. I just let her go.”

“Anyone, no- but everyone yes.”  Summer rolled her eyes and scuffed waving her hand. “I’m just interested in all the things that make people tick. Inside outside- but no worries babe no therapy session here.” Summer sat back her arms crossed over her chest. “Though I am curious about why are you narcissistic?  No judgement at all- I’m just interested since you appear to be so self aware.”

               “You in school for this or something? I don’t think I’d be a great test subject, if so.” A subconscious deflection never keen on allowing one to be privy to the details in his life, a chuckle escaping him. He would continue to prod not entirely understanding of why someone could be so interested in what makes a stranger tick. “Listen to yourself, I doubt there’s a why to that question. I’d think it’s more involuntary than anything,” a smirk sketched itself into waxen visage, mulling the inquiry around his mind all the same, “Other people gave me an inflated ego, now I just can’t help it.” A cop out of an answer, embellished with every ounce of sarcasm he could offer in spite of how deadpan it came out.

“Not that it was a choice but I’d have rather stayed in France than move here. Though my life would likely be insanely different if I hadn’t.”

She eyed the six pack, as if that little detail was supposed to prove why he was in the woods. He could’ve used that as an alibi, not a very good one, but she’d seen worse. But, she figured her alibi would be non-existent if she needed one. With a quick shrug of her shoulders she confessed, “I do have pepper spray and this –” she paused, holding up her hands, revealing her keys interlocked between her fingers, “and I know how to use it.” She was being dramatic, Tess knew that, but she couldn’t help but put up a guard for her own safety. “Why go through the woods for a beer run – seems a bit suspicious?”

               “Well, I can take a punch,” he scoffed as if the way she armed herself was inconsequential, no stranger to violence, a hint of a grin remaining on the mien. “You’re so... full of questions,” he half sighed as if exhausted by her ways of interrogation, slipping a hand down to pull a beer from its spot in the case, holding it out to her in mock truce. “It’s a good hiding spot. Some of you are a bit giddy, it’s a little much,” he leaned back against a nearby tree, pulling out a second beer for himself, not cracking it open just yet. “I like to enjoy a case of beer without somebody crying over me about an ex, can’t you say the same?” A shrug in finality was produced, peering around the chasmic night.
