History
Nicole’s mother was an interesting woman to say the least. Undeniably brilliant, just also interesting. The woman had more ex-husbands than you could count on one hand. Some she filed divorce papers too, others filed them to her. There was always a power struggle, a conflict in personality, they didn’t like her children, it was almost always something. Except for the one time it wasn’t. Around the time when Nicole was five, her mother married a man she deeply fell in love with. Which wasn’t saying too much since she fell in love quite often, but everyone could tell something was different. He’d been willing to be a father to her two kids, help raise them in a way neither of their actual fathers had. He cared and supported their mother, even though she made much more money than him. Easily a ‘trophy husband’, though he also had dreams and aspirations. Such things that would never fully be reached due to him being taken from all of them around a year later.
Nicole’s biological father was a very different story. He’d been married to her mother long enough to conceive a child, but divorced before she was even born. He hadn’t been a nice man. Rather a gold-digging and abusive one. When his daughter was born he attempted for full custody. Hoping that her busy schedule and fast rotations of husbands would help him hold a case in court. In the end he lost custody, though had some visitation rights. Child support had been turned down, seeing how she certainly didn’t need it. He was... Nice to Nicole though. Always sent birthday and Christmas presents. Took her out somewhere fun during the rare visit and invited her to all the important events for her half-siblings from him. Though she already had an older brother, so she didn’t feel a need to be particularly close to them. Still the girl made sure she stayed in touch, helped them out when they asked. It wasn’t much of a relationship, but it was something and she didn’t want much more.
Growing up Nikki was a smart kid. Though that was to be expected considering who her family was. She had access to the best education money had to offer. Like most kids she enjoyed playing, goofing off a bit and hanging out with her friends and family. It really wasn’t until middle school when she realized that she really didn’t have to try to get good grades. Something people swore would change once she got to high school, until it didn’t. Sophomore year of high school was when she began to apply herself. It was also when her counselor suggested that she skip a grade. Doing the extra work was easy, and she found herself actually enjoying doing the work. Certain subjects stuck out to her more, math and science in particular. A fact that pleased her mother, especially when Nikki showed interest in cars. From a young age she’d accompanied her mother to work, most of which she found boring. That was until her mother actually allowed her to see the interesting stuff once she was old enough. It was amazing how cars worked, how flying cars worked. How it all came together and just made sense. The only downfall of being so inspired by it, was wondering what she could do next. How to properly succeed her mother and do better than her.
