Feedback Revision:

I have reviewed the feedback given from previous submissions to alter my paper. First, my research question before revision was two separate questions, both not strongly written enough. They were too broad and needed to be more specific. After reading the feedback, I changed the question completely. This certainly helped my entire paper because it became more focused, and would improve supporting my collected data from the three creators. Next, I initially did not collect enough data in order to have concrete evidence. To fix this issue, I spent some more time gathering my data and ensuring it was documented and organized properly. With all these errors in mind, I revised my paper to eliminate these issues and create a stronger argument that my data will backup.

What elements of data matter in your space? why? #writ318mu #week11

My creators are all on TikTok, and the data that matters is likes, comments, views, shares, and saves. TikTok provides numbers for each of these categories, which can be helpful to see which area got the most interaction. For example, if a post has more comments and shares than likes, it can be assumed people did not enjoy the post and comments are flooded to state their disagreements. I chose to simply look at likes as this is the most basic form of interaction on the platform. I found this to be the most meaningful as it requires interaction, but not as much time to dissect like comments.

I used a different space for my project but as an big tiktok user, i can say that it's very true if likes are low and comments are high. People use tiktok comments as a big way of expression. Tiktok has so many different ways to measure engagement which is very great!

What are some ideas/suggestions for graphing my data so it reported in multiple, meaningful ways?

Some ideas/suggestions I have for graphing my data is making one or two different types of graphs to help better represent all different parts of my data, and a way of helping to communicate what trends can be seen and the tone they want to create and how that helps to shape the organization in a positive way for the fans and audience.

That is such a great idea to have more than 1 graph! I think that doing that will definitely make it easier to read the data but also to understand what it is representing. I will have this in mind while creating my own graphs!

Elements like views, likes, and shares matter in my space. These elements are important because it shows the content creator how well they are doing in that space. It also shows what viewers what to see and what they like. If one video about a certain topic has more views than another about a different topic, the creator may want to shift content.

what is data within your space? How does this impact your analysis?:

The space that i'm using for this assignment is Youtube. Youtube is big on numbers and it's whats important for content creators. But the important thing on youtube is the quality of the content or the eye-catching part of it. Without it, the numerical data on views and likes would be very low. My analysis is about that and how it can effect audience engagement.

I'm planning to put my data between three different ways of graphing data. I'm thinking about using either a line graph, a bar graph, or a scatter plot graph. I'm still not sure which one of the three I want to use. My data is a mixed method of data collecting. I think that i'm going to mess around with the different ways of graphing and see which one makes the most sense.

where are you with drafting?

I am just starting with my drafting writing process, i am currently trying to organize all my thoughts first before i start to write, i dont want my essay to sound all over the place. i'm trying to figure out how i want to start my essay. i always struggling with a good opener for my essays. but i do already have an idea of what i want the essay to sound like.

what did you learn about data analysis from the Module 4 data analysis practice project? how will that help you in module 4?:

i learned that it can be a little difficult. i think what made it harder for me was the fact that the account i chose, was a little bit dead with engagement. there wasn’t much data to analyze which was a little frustrating. but i think with this new project, have more engagement and data will be more fun.

how are you narrowing your account choices?:

i’m finding accounts that i enjoy watching and the type of content that i enjoy watching, im planning to choose youtube as the platform. i’m constantly on youtube and watching videos (sometimes i fall asleep watching youtube). i don’t think that finding the accounts will be too hard for me, i think that the hardest part will be trying to narrow it down to 3, i have 5 in mind at the moment. i think that i’ll choose accounts that are very similar. i know that the accounts i have in mind have the same audience.

what trends you are seeing in the data?:

The data is a little hard for me for the account I chose (@villecommuters). There isn’t much engagement on the instagram account. But I did notice that when the account posts fun graphics, it receives more engagement. I have also noticed that when the account posts giveaways that millersville is doing, it may receive more engagement. But the engagement on these posts are very small, it may be 30 likes but no comments or shares. It could also be a couple of likes but more shares. When the account posts fun posts like “sunday free scaries”, it has pretty good engagement.

how data-driven writing will help you in your post-undergrad life:

Post-undergrad, i'm hoping to find a job in marketing since that is my major. The important part of marketing is trying to find the data to best find what's the audience and the target group of a certain product, in order to get more people to engage with that product. Data-driven writing will help me because it's something that will be apart of my job in the future. Learning and trying it out now will only make it easier when i get a job in that field. I also think that it's a great skill to learn and to have.

my def of university social media strategy:

i think that university social media strategy is a way that colleges use to get people to apply to their school. since the rise of social media, marketing through social media has become a huge deal. it’s one of the most important parts of marketing. social media has always been a sensitive thing but with the rise of apps like tiktok, it has been an integral part of marketing and allowing people to discover schools (in this scenario).

Social Media: The Campus Bulletin 2.0

Why do universities use social media? Easy: it's the fastest way to show off their vibe. Millersville's Instagram is basically a mix of pretty pond sunsets, smiling students, and "don't miss this event!" posts. Future students see it and think wow, college looks magical. Alumni see it and feel proud. Current students (me) see it and go, oh good, one less email to dig through. So yea, universities use social media because it sells the school and builds community. All while reminding us the geese, swans, and ducks aren't the only ones running this campus.

your title sums it up perfectly! we may have the bulletin boards around campus but i feel like social media is a more effective way to share news about events. seeing the posts flood my instagram feed feels much beter than having the news flood my emails.

Prompt: since you are a public of the university social media - explain how the university posts share meaningful information with you? 

Response: The university posts share valuable information with me. Social media platforms, such as the Millersville Instagram, display posts with important dates, class schedules, break information, upcoming events, facility openings, construction updates, university store details, and hours of operation for various facilities. This shares a lot of valuable information that I would not know without having to look it up online. For example, when there is a lot of snowfall, I go to the university's Instagram to see if there is a delay or cancellation of classes. Another big source of information I get from Instagram from Millersville pages is the different clubs going on and meeting times. For example, I am part of the pre-health club, and I check their Instagram for meeting dates and times. Not only does Millersville's Instagram warn me about events and information, but it also provides me with resources. It shows flyers about different resources that are available. Similar to the Finish Strong event, which supports students during finals, or the Writing Center, where I can go if I'm struggling with writing.

i also used the example of snow weather, it's much better just opening up instagram or getting a text message than having to watching tv and look through every school just to see. i'm not apart of a club but i do follow the mu commuter instagram and i love how they post events for commuters that are going on around campus. millersville social media presence is an important one for us students.

How I personally experience content strategy:

As a student at Millersville University, I personally experience their approach to the social media content strategy through many different forms. First, I mainly find a lot of this information through my outlook email, as well as the daily ville letter that is sent out daily to all students. Another form I use is Tik Tok and Instagram. The Instagram account our university uses gives important information on upcoming events, as well as different tip and tricks for the semester. As for Tik Tok, it is a student run account and they create fun and short clips about campus life, they provide an outlet of common interests and exciting videos for students to enjoy. The Millersville Tik Tok also has a lot of student opinions from different surveys and interviews they conduct on the account. I find these interesting to view and relate with others. Lastly, I also view our University website for information on important dates throughout the semester!

I always forget about the daily ville letter. i think it's because it's not in my main email folder. but when i do remember, it is such a great way to share news that is going on around campus. the mu tiktok is so interesting, i really enjoy the content that they post. it makes the university seem like it's a great place to be (which it is). i think mu does a great job with the content that they post all throughout different forms of social media.

growing up, i feel like when there were closings or delays; it would always show up on tv. but now, all i have to do is open up instagram and MU has a post on it. im a commuter so whenever mu does an event, i always see it on instagram. although it might not be meaningful, i do enjoy when they make funny tiktoks or very relatable posts that connect to pop culture. i enjoy the posts that the university makes and i'm glad that they do.
