I love the idea of a shady muggle shooting the owner of the elder wand in the face for drug money or something and all he's got on him is a fancy stick and some weird copper coins. Worst mugging ever.

But that weird stick explodes sometimes and he'd like to keep all ten fingers thank you very much, so he just kind of keeps it in a closet,

Until one day his daughter or granddaughter gets a letter about being a wizard, and she's going to need a magic wand and he's like wait a minute maybe this eleven year old child can handle the weird explosion stick

And the elder wand is like finally an actual wizard let's get this show on the road

And that's how a first year muggleborn arrives at Hogwarts with the Elder Wand whose whereabouts have been unknown for half a century or more.
