More thoughts/observations/head canons about RRD2 part 3!
Part 1 | Part 2
Charles Smith is probably the best man in the gang. And him and John calling eatch other Brother so fucking casually and John arriving to Charles that Charles is family to hurts my heart in a verry specific way.
And god Charles.... hearing about what happened to John after the events of rdr1 must absolutely kill him (because they would 100% stay in touch). Casue Charles saw the life John was building, and how fucking hard he was working to change his ways.
This probably an old take but New Austin is... boring... why Rockstar didnt do a whole New Austin DLC is beyond me, like this game is amazing but it could have been perfect if they didnt abandon it for online modes and milking gtav to death. (There is a wistfully hopefully part of me thats holding onto the thinnest of thin threads of hope that if RDR2 gets a next gen update/re-release/remaster that they add in cut content or DLC or something. Im 99.999% sure they won't but you know...)
This'll probably be controversial... but i think Arthur gets a little bit too much blame for the death of Thomas Downes, like sure he didn't help, but he didn't straight up kill the man, its implied he died of the TB not the beating Arthur gave him. But also it's perfectly understandable why Mrs Downes blames Arthur, because she wants someone to blame
I swear to go god the epilogue turns me into:
John: *breathes*
Me, upset: Arthur use to breathe....
Mr Pearson looks so sad in the end credits. Like god could imagine travelling the wild west with a gang of outlaws, only to end up working fucking retail.
I was just thinking the way its set up is rdr1 is the end of John story, middle of Jacks story, rdr2 is the end of Arthurs story, middle of Johns story, beginning(ish) of Jacks story, so rdr3 middle of Arthur story and beginning(ish) of Johns story? (Probably in terms of how he joined the gang)
And this is all for now.
i got 100%
More thoughts/observations/head canons about RRD2 part 2 of this post
Dutch didn't truely "give up" on Arthur untill his insists about letting John and Abigail and Jack go. I think in part because at that point Dutch, or rather Micah has convinced dutch, that John (and maybe Abigail) is a rat. (But like Dutch isn't fully gone, you can see that in the conflition he has when he learns Abigail got taken by the Pinkertons)
Also side note 100% the way Arthur begs Dutch to go after Abigail, is how Arthur used to beg him when he was younger. the way he just Goes "Dutch..." over and over with increasing desperation, not quite sure how to ask for what he wants, and you can see the way Dutch hesitates because of it.
So... slight confession, my first playthrough... I went back for the money, becase I pressed the wrong button because someone came in at that moment and distracted me. So this is the first time ive play the "canon ending" and my god... my poor little heart. Dutch fucking breaks my heart.
It is fucking hilarious that Mrs Geddes sees John with his hand inside a Horse (when helping birth a foal) and then immediately trys to proposition him
I get that Abigail is scared, and with good reason to be, but in some situations shes a bit to harsh on John. Like there a certain situation where the actions he takes are the best course of action, like the only other alternative is John dying.
Also first time i played RDR2 i hadn't played rdr1, but now i have and now I get the knowledge that the shirt Abigail buys as a gift for John is the fucking shirt hes wearing when he dies in rdr1.
That's all for now...
I've spent days away from camp in Rdr2 doing stuff for 100% completion. And the one time they send someone to look for me is the one night I spend away from camp between My Last Boy and Our Best Selves.
Really?
Chapter 6 of rdr2 is so god damn hard to play. Micah really cranks it up to 11. And my god i can not believe the way Micah speaks to Arthur and no one says a damn thing about it.
Just random thoughts/observations/head canons that ive had while re-playing rdr2:.
I feel like Arthur thinks John is the favourite child. (Or at least Dutchs favourite) this is mostly because of chapter 1, where Arthur still clearly upset about John coming back to the gang after leaving for a while, and Dutch basically welcoming him with open arms, to me it comes off as Arthur feeling he wouldn't get the same treatment if he did the same thing, that hes held to a higher standard (also speaking as someone who is the least favourite child, thats how you feel a lot of the time).
Arthur is more like Hosea, John is more like Dutch.
Off shoot of that last one: being a "good" person comes more naturally to Arthur than it does to John. Depending on how you play, Arthur is able to change his ways in a matter of weeks, John still struggles with that years later, and overall in rdr1 is much more cold person essentially only careing about his family (which fair, tbh)
Guarma... should have been longer. Maybe the most controversial of these, but Guarma should have been longer and had more connections to the main Story. As it is, it feels random and out of place with the flow of the rest of the story, like you finsih it and its just "well.... anyway". It would.have been better if we spent more time there, you see Dutch slowly losing it a bit more, it has some kind of deeper connections to the main story, something like more emphasis on Cornwell doing something on the island or something to do with the Wapiti, like you free a couple of them who were also captured on the island?.
Javier.... is weird... not in like a charcter sense but the way he acts. In chapter 6 hes a different. At the end of chapter 5 he even calls Dutch out on it, "we're acting Crazy thats not what I thought we be doing" seem like his loyalty to Dutch is wavering a bit, only for him to do a 180 and lecture Arthur about Loyalty. And I get it like maybe hes denial but... I dont know its just weird.
Another tangent, this time about Javier. I know his actor apparently wanted him to side with John and Arthur and I just personally feel that would work better tbh (I know why they didnt casue things needed to line up with RDR1 but...). So imagine Javier did side with John and Arthur, Arthur tells Javier to get John out of here, he holds them off, ends basically the same. Then John reconnects with Javier in the epilogue, but that eventually leads to some kind of falling out between them, maybe Javier still being an active outlaw, maybe hes helping Mexican Rebels, something like that. Because that would make more sense with rdr1 in my opinion, Because Javier feels differnt than Bill or Dutch in that Game, for one thing You can take him Alive, another because John sheds a tear for Him, like why? Why is Javier differnt.
I highly doubt any future Red Dead Game you'll play as any known charcter as the main charcter, probably end game (epilogue at most) and i highly doubt we'll ever play as Dutch (yes i know that that was scrapped part of Rdr2 epilogue), he doesn't fit the the theme of "redemption", of course they could give him a spin off of something like "Red Dead Vengeance" or something.
Dutch and Hosea are soulmates. Platonic or otherwise. Dutch loses his mind hard core after he dies. (Also let me explain that me as a person, I dont believe you have one soulmate i think you have multiple, platonic and romantic)
Micah is working with the O'driscals up untill the "Peace talks" between Colm and Dutch. I think Micahs goal is to use the O'driscals to get rid of Arthur so he can more easily have Dutch ear. He stops working with them after that point because he dubble crosses them by not telling Dutch and the gang where they're holding Arthur to send the gang into the ambush.
Sean would have sided with Arthur.
This is it for now cause this post is getting long....
Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck.
You know something I dont see people talk about...
Lots of people tend to agree thatDutchs mental went down hill after Hosea is killed, but not a lot people bring up that within 48-72 hours of time, John also got arrested and they have no reason to believe that he wouldn't just be hung asap, but also Dutch probably thought Arthur went down with that ship for a good few hours.
So he lost his Partner (in whatever way you interpret that), and his two "sons", the members of the gang he probably sees as actually family, all within three days of each other.
And i know dutch was starting to crack before that point, but that situation 100% made it ten times worse.
I wish I liked Mary... I just can't. I understand her perfectly and why she does things. But I just cant like her....
Im watching some ghost hunting videos on YouTube (a Sam and Colby one specifically)
And "the family lived with these intense hauntings for years untill they finally moved out"
My guy i would be gone within a week what do you mean they stayed years?
I actually managed to do Herbalist 9 As Arthur (gather all the herbs/plants, 4 of of which only grow in New Austin)
So I dont ship Arthur and Charles
But that
Charles: you have my freind...
Followed by-
Arthur: you should have taken the damn money
Charles: i know... im a damn fool
Always gets me like-
