the memeification of fascism is a proven method of perpetuating and instilling it in other people. Layers of irony will not protect you once you adopt racist, sexist, ableist, transphobic terminology into your lexicon. you'll be acknowledging and nursing the mindsets and connotations borne of those words.

I guess it's nothing new, but many people have developed this delusion that a fat person's public existence online is explicit consent for anything, at all, to happen to them and their likeness. It's a special kind of evil to me, because just as your existence in the real life public isn't consent for a stranger to run up to you and smear a thick layer of shit on your face, so too is your existence online not a plateau for public humiliation for any perceived slight your body might present.

Anybody intent on the gaslighting narrative that posting pictures online is "asking for abuse", that the sheer act of existence is in some form an attempt at "glorification" (whether it stands to be the intended goal or not) is engaging in an insidious form of victim blaming. It scares me, that we are back in a place where people are allowed to be violently phobic and outright cruel towards fat people in the name of "concern", when it is entirely clear what is actually happening.

To be clear, I am not interested in this being a debate; It isn't. I have been denied healthcare because of my body, I have lost friendships because of violent narratives that made people feel comfortable abusing me. This is not a matter of perception.

The public narrative has, once again, shifted towards one of extreme prejudice against fat people, and it is not a coincidence that we are being desensitized to it online. It isn't a coincidence that these conversations are happening at this point in time, that they are arriving alongside the visceral fascism we are being exposed to on a daily basis. You are free to quote your duty as a concerned stranger as your weapon of choice, and you are free to pretend that your anger is guided by frustration, that somebody isn't applying their full potential – that they are a failed thin person waiting to emerge from their shell, break from the layers of fat that encase somebody deserving of care – but I am free to be fucking furious at you.
