"i only have one follower... but she's a really great follower."
the moment in sophomore year that gets me every time
I agree with the posts that say “Adaine will probably die first”, and I would like to add my thoughts about how unprepared the Bad Kids would be for this and the guilt everyone (especially Kristen and Fig) would feel.
Adaine 100% dies in battle, the way she fights, always gives herself fully, getting up in there, it’s only a matter of time before death catches up with her. And when it does, the Bad Kids, who have foiled death so many times, who previously almost seemed invincible, now have to cope with the fact that they can’t outrun death forever.
I also fully believe that they prepared themselves for everyone’s but Adaine’s death. In fact, it’s one of my headcanons that most of them prepared things for Adaine, wrote little notes for her to read after they passed, left memories in the form of photographs, recorded messages for her to listen to, under the assumption that she would outlive all of them, and they didn’t want her to feel alone, wanted to help her with her grief, even when they were no longer there.
And then she dies first… no one is really prepared for that, no one thought it was possible, she’s a high elf, the people’s oracle, she’s immortal… she was supposed to be the one carrying the burden of outliving her friends… and now they don’t know what to do with themselves.
Then there’s the extra guilt of ‘letting’ her die. Kristen, who has been revivifying so many people, failing when it mattered so much. Her and Fig beating themselves up for not throwing Adaine more heals during the combat, too confident in their ability to escape death, to help their friends escape death, and it has bitten them in the ass. Gorgug blaming himself for not tanking more damage. Him, Fabian, and Riz beating themselves up for not killing the people that dealt the final blow, quicker.
And then there is of course the bitter irony that Adaine herself would have said that she should have seen this coming and should have been able to prevent her own death… and no one admits it but deep down they blame her just the tiniest bit for not seeing it, they can’t help but be a little angry at her for it. They all beat themselves up for feeling this way constantly… but they can’t help but remember what Adaine said in freshman year, when she found out about the oracle being in a shipwreck…
These feelings definitely don’t help with the already massive amount of guilt they experience.
Now that’s IMPROV BABY

Siobhan as Adaine asks "Jawbone, can you drive?"
Lou as Fabian pushes, "Yeah, Jawbone, can you drive?"
Brennan as Jawbone almost flustered "Yeah. Where do you want me to go?"
Zac as Gorgug clarifies their ask "Can you drive a house that is a boat?"
Jawbone makes a very unconvinced-in-his-skills-driving-a-house-that-is-a-boat-face.
Murph as Riz in rising urgency, "Do you have water vehicle proficiency, Jawbone?"
