la contesse madelaine d'artois is by far the most rizzed up PC in all of dimension 20. and i realize some of this is because she is a vampire who has Magical Beauty and Allure but also thats just siobhan thompson's game.

(I know we are past that episode now but) I've been thinking about that Bat Child bestial failure and terror frenzy while she was on top of the car - the one where she panics because she can't breathe and rolls into the river. It's played for laughs because haha she doesn't even need to breathe but hear me out.

What if that's Vesper having a moment of crisis where she realises that she's not breathing without conscious effort (vampire) and it drives home that she's still present and experiencing life but her body is dead. And the reality of what's happened to her body since being bitten hits her a little too hard. Not saying she's never processed it at all, just that she hasn't really finished processing something that big (and maybe will not for decades or centuries). She's easily the newest of all the vampires and - I've said this again and again - she had no one guiding her through it after being turned and she still sees herself as not quite an Actual Vampire (which could be read as a fascinating form of denial). Of course she's maladjusted as hell it's only been like 20-odd years for her and from the way she describes her turning and subsequent "wayward tour" (however the turning actually may have happened) it does not sound like it was voluntary and it does not sound like she took it well.

Basically I think the freakout on the car roof wasn't her actually feeling suffocated, but the part of her that remembers being human rearing its head in a moment where the crushing panic of being an alive mind in a dead body is impossible to ignore send post

The Templers just being a few old men who just like hanging out is endearing. They fund raise and like go carts and skeeball. And even though it’s a fraternity, Herb tells Vesper if she just wants to play skeeball she’s welcome to come and do that. And when she displays sincere interest, he immediately sees it and accepts it. They’re grumpy and don’t like change but they do change because they believe the Templers are more important than some arbitrary rules. Also the one old man ensuring nonbinary people are included because his grandkid is nonbinary suggests he not only accepts them but is creating the opportunity for them to join as well. Maybe he hopes if they join the two of them will have the opportunity to spend more time together. Reminded me of my grandpa. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like someone just wanted to spend time with me more than him. He was the sort to call just to talk. Maybe I’m projecting but I like them.
