Destiny flipped her hair out of her face with her arm and looked back over at him. “Yeah? What kind of activity are you expecting?”

“I’m not sure, but something good.” The nurturer admitted, squinting down at his phone to read over the notes he took of Aidan’s stuff. “Seems like there have been a lot of reports of weird stuff here...but that’s true of all the places we’ve checked out.”

“Biff it is a pretty strong term to use.” Dot replies defensively, still sure that her fall wasn’t anything to worry about. She laughs a little herself as she gazes up at the cameraperson. The two didn’t talk that much but she found that she was rather enjoying herself when she could be so easily irritated. “Please, I’m sure the fans would love if it you came to someone’s rescue on screen. I think it would really add to the dramatics of, well, everything else. They would eat it up.” She could imagine it easily with all the theories and analyses that their viewers came up with. “It helps that you’re maybe, kind of, a little bit charming too.” She nods in agreement. “That man is a giant. Did you know when we were little he was a pipsqueak? I was taller than him at some point.” She can’t help but roll her eyes at the jab at her height, far too used to it by now and from experience the more worked up she got about it the more people thought it was funny. “Alright, I take my compliment back. Also, 5′3 is like the average height.”

“I--” Bright laughter spilled from the cameraperson as she imagined Dot taller than Miles and though, Sabiha’s cheeks grew a tad bit warmer, she blamed in on the exertion. Serious compliments were rare gems for the cameraperson. “No take backs, you think I’m charming.” She waggled her brows playfully and, as they neared the campsite, said in a lower tone, “no worries, I won’t tell anyone else ya think that.”

Aidan hadn’t had much to carry, so he had been in the room for a little while and had already checked out all that it had to offer. When she spoke to him, he had been sitting on the other bed, not really sure what to do or if he should be helping. “That’s a nice offer now, but when I’m shaking you awake at three am because I heard a noise, you might regret having made it.” He smiled, trying to pass it off as a joke, although he didn’t put it past himself to end up in that exact situation. “Are you excited for this one?”

“It’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.” Sabiha affirmed, though that particular scenario would not find her in good humor if it were to happen. Still, she had offered and-- granted mostly bravado and the sake of the joke had pushed her to extend it-- she’d stand by it. “Yeah, actually. I think this’ll be a fan favorite...maybe- I’ve always found our fans to be hard to predict. What about you-- excited to be here?”

Avery hugged her, and his wet hair shed drops all over her shoulders. “Ah, Ave, your hair is soaking.” She shrieked, shoving him away with a laugh and stepping further into his room. “Yeah, yeah,” Waving off his declarations of love, she wandered over to the window, sipping her own coffee. Unlike most of the crew, Avery’s presence had a comforting effect on her — he was one of the few people who didn’t overwhelm her senses with dramatic feelings. Rather, the feeling of Avery’s presence slotted in perfectly alongside Theo’s own feelings, reminding her of home. She’d grown up beside him and, as such, her awareness of him was as familiar as her awareness of herself, as natural as the steps she took across the room. 

“Yeah, I barely dragged myself out of bed this morning. You’d think I’d be used to the shooting schedule by now, but it always throws me off.” As if to punctuate her point, she yawned, hard enough to make her eyes water. “Ugh, see? Now, can I have one of those chocolate croissants, if it’s not too much trouble?”

“Yeah-- you want me to warm it up?” He gestured towards the hotel room’s microwave with a glance, pulling out the bag’s contents one by one. There was a few seconds he couldn’t decide which to do first, a comical moment of indecision as he lifted the croissant, wrapping and all, to his lips as if it were his cup of coffee before realization hit and he quickly exchanged it for the real thing. The moment he took the first sip of his coffee, he looked at Theo as if she were the greatest gift to ever grace the planet. He motioned the croissant still in his hand towards the microwave and then towards her, the question still standing.

Dot’s shoulders droop down, suddenly feeling bad for acting so accusatory. Avery so far was nothing but nice to her. “Oh. Good. I appreciate that.” She liked their tutoring sessions more than she thought. It was good warm up for when she’d eventually pursue her own degree and admittedly the material wasn’t anything too challenging, yet. “Really?” Sometimes she forgot the type of people she interacted with. “I’m sure Destiny just moved it out of the way or something. Or I put it there and forgot.” The second scenario felt less likely, but to Dot nothing was impossible except for one thing.

“That could be it too.” Avery nodded in agreement, not overlooking the possibility that there was perfectly plausible explanation. The fact that he defaulted to the most paranormal was a worrisome habit. “I gotta work on that, too--thinking it has to be some entity first before looking for a more logical explanation. You wouldn’t happen to be able to tutor me in that, too, would you?”

jules watched her for a moment to be sure he was doing it correctly, and when he figured it out he smiled and hammered each peg in, a soft smile on his face. Sure he didn’t do it himself but he had a hand in it and it made him feel good. 

“what would I owe you exactly? I gotta know the terms.” He said with a playful pout.

“Woah.” Her eyes widened as it seemed like he was actually considering it, then she quickly collected herself. “Hmm...” The cameraperson unzipped the front part of the tent, tossing her roll and pack inside as she thought. “Creative freedom at a future destination...?” She threw out there, testing the waters.

“Damn, you couldn’t have waited? What about respect Sab?” Mika looks down to her friend, throwing down her board and hopping off the fence as well. She runs her fingers through her hair and stares out to the empty swimming pool. “This is nice. I was getting withdrawals being in the middle of fucking nowhere.” 

Putting on foot onto her skateboard, she looks back over to Sabiha. "I’m not sure if you heard me but I actually said the first one to get to the pool buys dinner. So.” Without giving the brunette much time to process she kicks off and cruises over as fast as she can.

“What? I said big rip...that’s gotta count.” Sabiha shrugs up at the blonde and content with her perceived win, looks for her board. “Yeah, same.” She finds her board, bending to pick it up right as Mika changes the rules, whirling around to find that Arcane’s editor had already started for the pool. “Oh-- !” But it is too late, even as she runs and steps on her board after her, Sabiha should’ve known. 

“Nice one, Antonov, I’ll remember this !!”

“You mind helping me set this up?” Sab sidles up beside Asher, bumping her hip into his side. This being the video camera she indicates by shrugging up the shoulder its on and the tripod in her other hand which she lifts up to show him. “I figure this one can go in the main lobby, yeah?”

sab drops her things onto the bed she’s claimed and flops her whole being onto it. she’s already done the most by bringing her equipment up first, the metal boxes containing her rig and cameras in a neat pile near the hotel room’s table. the cameraperson pops up onto her elbows, surveying aidan in her customary teasing way. “if you get scared in the middle of the night, sinclair, just wake me up. i’ll protect you.”

“You’d be surprised what these ghosties are into,” she laughed. “No, I’m fucking with you. Obviously.”

“No shame.” He shrugged his shoulders, a ‘live and let live’ (however ironic it might be) air about him. “Hope we do get a little activity tonight...I feel like this location is promising.”

“The powers that be don’t seem like a very good boss. Although, I don’t know what makes a good boss. I don’t think I’ve ever had one.” He continued to joke, although he wasn’t certain if he believed in fate or any of that either. He noticed the slight change in tone and his face got a little more serious, “you don’t sound convinced.” He tried, his tone not matching his new expression. He was always trying to make light of things, even if he wasn’t generally successful. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess.”

She shook the feeling from herself and recovered as best as she could, noticing Miles attempt and trying to meet it. “Yeah.” A beat of silence then she pointed towards the direction of the exit. “Anyway, let’s get outta here, I’m starving.”

EVENT 006: NEW MEXICO

CLOSED STARTER for @nightmxde​

Theo rapped her knuckles against the aged surface of Avery’s door, cradling two coffees and a bag of pastries in her other arm. She was exhausted from last night’s shoots, but grateful to be free of the spooky nighttime atmosphere — during the day, the energy of the space was positive enough for her to navigate it without much trouble. But at night, she began to understand why so many people flocked here to experience the supernatural. Avery finally pulled open the door, and she held out her gifts with an eager smile. “Rise and shine, sunshine, today’s a new day. Tell me how much you love me.”

The moment he cracked his eyes open, Avery was unable to fall back asleep. His covers had been thrown off of him, most likely in his sleep and largely due to the variety pack of nightmares he’d been subjected to after retiring from the first night’s recording. He yawned, stretching across the bed and then popped up from it, looking over to Asher’s bed before he padded over to the bathroom. Emerging a handful of minutes later to the sound of a knock, he was showered and refreshed, a towel draped over his head. He pulled on his clothes for the day and was just thinking about breakfast when he opened the door to find Theo standing there.

A large grin graced his face and he looped an arm around her shoulders in a hug after taking the coffee from her, careful not to spill it. “I love you too much. More than a thousand lifetimes, you glorious human being.” He stepped back and aside to let her in. “Sorry for the mess, I just woke up.”

These days, Mika was fairly cautious with who she’d label as a friend due to her own struggle to keep any positive relationship. While she and Sabiha had bonded fairly quickly due to their shared interests and similar temperaments, she was still hesitant. That didn’t mean she couldn’t call the other up for their usual shenanigans. She was the first person to call whenever she was bored as Mika knew fully well Sab would always be down for anything. 

“Fucking cheater!” She yells out but is right behind her as she clings onto the fence, clawing her way upward to the top. Mika’s quick on her feet as she convinces herself she’s going to win before she watches in agony as her packet of cigarettes falls to the ground. “No!” It’s enough to make her stop at the top, peering down. “Sometimes we do have to leave men left behind.”

There’s a gleeful peel of laughter from the cameraperson as she tosses her board onto the other side, fence rattling as she follows close behind it, scrambling up as quickly as she can which is made difficult from the lack of footholds. 

She is nearly up and over when she hears Mika’s scream and looks over to see the editor looking down at the fallen pack of cigarettes. “Big rip. This sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

She throws a leg over, then herself, dropping the rest of the way down to land haphazardly on her feet.

LOCATION: Hotel Parq Central STATUS: Closed for @nightmxde

“I could’ve sworn I had it right here like five minutes ago.” Dot groans in frustration, digging through her suitcase for notes from their last study session. It could be difficult to keep track of things when travelling but it wasn’t like her to just lose something. She’s never been the forgetful type. Her eyes scan the room, but she had no luck. It isn’t until Dot makes her way to the bathroom to find it sitting on top of the sink. “You have got to be kidding me.” Exasperated, she walks back into the room. “Did you move this? If you wanted to cancel you could’ve just said so.”

“I wouldn’t waste your time like that.” Avery assures her and, in fact, had been geared up to help look when she found the notes. It is true that their study sessions usually leaves his brain flatlining-- the information there but unarticulated-- but he needs it and if not for Dot, he is certain he’d fail his class. He glances around at the hotel room, slipping his backpack off his shoulder. “Maybe we should record this incident as a paranormal interaction...”
