Man, oh man, is this right
Truth. Learning this the hard way
Actual conversation with a patient

In other news isn't my horse the cutest?!?
Nice hack and snack with my boy the other day. Wish I wasn't in the middle of 3 12's and could be riding in the gorgeous weather… the life of a night shift nurse 😑
Officially Laura, BSN, RN. That is a wrap for school…
Graduation Day 🎓🎓🎓
My horse, good friends, wine, and a + 70° day. What more could a girl ask for?!?
Some National Sibling Day spam… love my big brother and little sister 💞💞💞 Nurse, Police Officer and Accountant. We have some proud parents over here 😍😍
Thanks for the offer to answer questions, I really appreciate it! I mainly want to know sort of how an average shift (as if there is such a thing!) is for you guys? So I can compare whether things you're allowed/not allowed to do are similar to here. Also what hours you work and over how many days? Oh and obviously pay-looking online it's quite difficult to work it out! Also have you even come across many nurses from the UK or elsewhere in Europe?! Thank you in advance!
im going to answer publicly so my nurse friends can reblog and add to this because I am going to leave things out inevitably haha.
In the IDEAL world an average hospital shift starts by getting report, gathering all the needed information on your team of patients, and going in to do their assessments. Assessing their needs for the day/night, implementing orders, checking blood sugars if required before meals, communicating with other disciplines in the hospital to best arrange their tests/dialysis/surgeries. Starting and maintaining IV’s, hanging fluids and piggybacks, pushing medications through the IV (or central line) I do not have critical care experience so I cannot attest to all they do (arterial lines, drips, and all that jazz). Bathing and personal care, inserting and maintaining foley catheters, straight caths, NG tubes, peritoneal dialysis, wound care…goodness we do so much! haha.
I do have a close friend who is a nurse in france ( datrubooben ) maybe he can help me differentiate between what nurses are allowed to do here vs. there
I will message you privately about pay!
help me out guys!!
mursejesse heyy—nurserin cardiacattack nightnurse-laura (im leaving out like hundreds of people but IM BRAIN DEAD RN)
An average shift for me as a med/surg nurse in an adult hospital goes something like this: Arrive and get report, peek in and make sure everyone is alive and breathing, bed alarms are on if needed, and introduce myself. After that get organized, look up what meds are due to what patients and I have a system that I use on my "brains" for this. Take care of computer work such as pain assessments and fall assessments. Start 9 and 10pm meds and get everyone ready for bed (hahaha they don't actually sleep). Give out needed meds throughout the night - usually lots of dilaudid and morphine and ambien too. We are responsible for PICC line dressings, starting IV's, foleys, CBI's, NGT, chest tubes, and more that I can't think of right now. It can be crazy hectic. I work from 6:45pm to 7:15am 3 nights per week. You can inbox me about pay.
Love hims 💚

Think I'm going to create a Nurblr directory soon. I'll be adding the ones I can think of from here, reblog with your nurse or healthcare professional status (student, registered, field etc) if you'd like to be part of it or message me if you want to be excluded
RN. Working med/Surg will have my BSN in May :)
Need advice
One of the day shift nurses approached one of my coworkers and asked her to talk to me because she thinks I’m mean to her. I’m kinda upset and taken a back - I’m thinking she is mistaking my sarcasm for meanness?? I am thinking of apologizing when I see her in the morning but at the same time it kinda makes me mad that she didn’t approach me about it… after all she is 60-something. Thoughts?!?
So I talked to her and she was taking my sarcasm for meanness. I asked her to please come to me with any issues in the future and to please not talk about it to the rest of the staff. And I found out she had told more people as well. Ugh
