I can't blame you for seeming so down, and I'm sorry your Captain isn't great to you either. I've also just given evaluations...It's honestly the largest responsibility I have, but it's also my least favorite, partially because of the questions themselves. But I think I would like an evaluation from you! Even in our circumstances, I'm sure it'd be more productive than any Pony Express-issued one...

I do think, despite the limits, it's worth a try! And, if you wanted, I could also give you an evaluation in return. I'd understand if you didn't want to either. If anything, it really would be refreshing to not talk about how our habits somehow affect Pony Express' revenue...ha...

It does make me wonder if it's ethical either way, considering we are the same person...But at least it would be (I assume) introspective. Ah, forgive my rambling, again!

i understand what you mean about ethics. i would have the same concern, myself, if it weren't for the fact that we do have some slight differences worth noting... such as age, at least. that should make it at least a little bit easier to consider, no?

i know it might sound odd to say this, given that we both have the same job, but i try to remind myself that i'm—well, we're—more than just the money we make, more than just employees. i hope that can mean something…

honestly, i'd be happy to have an evaluation from you as well. i've been thinking about a reasonse and what to say... maybe these questions might also mean something, too?

firstly, how are you doing, overall? has anything happened to make you feel uncomfortable or afraid in the workplace? do you feel safe?

i'd love to hear back from you, whenever you have the time, fellow anya. if nobody else is looking after us, then we can at least be here for each other.

I watched this analysis of a "Men who hate women" perspective of Mouthwashing and it really put into words a feeling I've had ever since I first played the game.

I understand that Anya wasn't the only one who endured Jimmy's abuse. But to me it's just not comparable. Anya is so alone in this. She is the only woman. She tried to confide in the one man who had authority to do something about the horrible abuse she went through. And he did nothing. Because he was trying to keep the peace. The peace that had already been destroyed for her. She had nobody, she was completely alone.

Men who hate women aren't just the abusers. It's the men who let the abuse happen because it's easier to keep the peace than do something about it. It's easier to pretend like it's not that big of a deal. To say something like "we can fix this" to both Anya and Jimmy as if they are going through the same amount of stress about what happened is bananas.

Anyway I recommend the video, it's really well edited and discusses the actual "Men who hate women" franchise and stuff too. It's neat!!

anya’s eyes light up in a way she can identify.    “and leave corporate?”  you are what you make of yourself.   it’s a cliche answer for a cliche interview,   but it made way for a decent education and a good job.    they ask her what she wants and her answer is the same.    something more.    more than a marriage at twenty,  more than the scrap of land that was home,   more than the check-out counters at a store an uncle owned.  she’s always wanted to be a lawyer– which sector was a pragmatic decision.  ( though when the first strains of ‘roll in the tire’ play out and atticus finch adjusts his glasses on-screen,  she recollects things differently. ) she considers leaving her answer at a maybe.  she considers something cleaner, plainer.   she considers—  and she admits,  “a firm of my own. eventually.  i have no complaints about my current employers, but i’m looking to lead cases. do something that matters.”

she blinks, an inquisitive look in her down-turned eyes. talking to another woman who is career-driven does feel refreshing; while she doesn't know much about kim yet, her curiosity is piqued. ❛ that sounds ambitious... in a good way, i mean. ❜ a slight chuckle escapes her, a smile lingering on her lips. ❛ i can imagine that having your own firm could be a lot more fulfilling than working for someone else. more work, but you'd probably have a lot more control over who you're working with, and all... ❜ in the back of her mind, the nurse considers her own co-workers. maybe she's just new to her job, but she feels out of place in a way that can't be remedied. working independently sounds... refreshing. ❛ i hope you'll keep following your dreams, ❜ she tells kim. ❛ if i can ask... what inspired you to pursue a career in the law? do you want to help people, too? ❜

❛ i... n- no, that wasn't! i am so sorry. ❜ anya's face turns red, but not quite as much so as the blood seeping from the captain's arm. she's ordinarily a lot better with doing sutures, and after slipping up once badly enough for curly to really feel it, anya carefully retracts for a moment.

❛ i- i didn't mean to. i'll be more careful, i promise! i would never jab you like that on purpose. can you just, um... hold still for another moment? i'm almost done, really, and then you should be all patched up. ❜

a corporate nurse.  kim casts another glance at anya—  the downward turn of her features and the tilt of her face.   she certainly looks like a medical professional, but it’s her hands that give away the most.     ( her mother was nineteen in all her wedding photos–  she had wanted to be a nurse at some point.   kim left home at nineteen. )   “it’s what keeps you going at the end of the day, right?”   she thinks about it:   immaculate work, push for-- what, another few years, and she could be on the track to becoming a partner.    make something of herself.    then help with her money.  she adjusts herself in her seat, her earrings swinging in the process.   “where do you want to be?”

kim's words do resonate with anya; a look of recognition shows in her dark eyes, & she nods her head. ❛ yes... that's exactly it! ❜ the exclamation is hardly any louder than her usual soft spoken tone, though the subtle shift in demeanor is still a shift. ❛ to be honest.. i'd really love to be a doctor some day. it's what i've dreamed of since i was very young. ❜ anya catches a glimpse of kim's earrings - small and triangular - and she thinks about what the other woman told her while she takes a small sip of her drink. ❛ so, we're both working in corporate situations, no? you mentioned, um... that corporate law isn't what you'd expected it to be. do you have bigger dreams, yourself? a dream job you're working toward...? ❜

Betty’s eyes meet Anya’s as she finishes taking in her surroundings. She can’t believe she’s actually here, in space. If this is a dream she never wants to wake up. “Yes! And you’re Anya, right? It’s great to meet you. I’m really glad we’re going to be working together,” She says.

Truthfully, she’s relieved to not be the only woman on the ship. Even though she’s confident she can hold her own against any man, it’s nice to have someone else she can hopefully relate to a bit more.

“It wasn’t too bad,” She says. “I think I was too excited about actually going to space to notice. This is all so amazing, don’t you think?”

❛ oh, i completely understand...! it really does feel quite incredible to be in space. it's... surreal, even. ❜ anya's enthusiasm is genuine, already feeling herself be a tick more social than she is on her usual hauls. ( it's because she's in the company of another woman, truly. )

❛ i only wish we could get to see the actual space around us... but, um, you'll get used to it. at least, the window sky screen is really pretty at night. ❜

so, say it hasn't happened to you. you don't know anyone that had it happen to them — or, maybe you do, but you just don't think about it. you forget about it. you make a joke that feels like a dagger in that person's heart, and you don't even notice. maybe that person — maybe she fawns. she laughs it off, and tries not to think about it. she says it's okay. she says it's fine, because she's been through worse. ( as if it isn't the worst to have one of the worst things that ever happened to her rehashed so lightheartedly. as if it doesn't make her sick to her stomach. )

maybe you did have it happen to you, though. maybe you're like her. god, maybe you are her. some people, they might find a way to bury it or repress it, but it's always on the back of her mind. it's always there. its tendrils slink deep in to the subconscious and cause sleepless nights. it lingers, solidifies. it traps her in the past. it invades her body. no matter how many showers she takes, no matter how often she keeps herself clean, her mind feels as if it's been poisoned. tastes and smells aren't what they used to be. it redefines her biology. it's an endless nightmare, really, but it's one that she puts up with. maybe you'd understand, if you've been in her shoes. (sandals)

but it's easy to not think about it, if it's never happened to you. that's how these things usually go for most people.

❛ it's betty, right...? ❜ anya's voice is gentle as she regards the latest hire. she's never had an intern of her own while working on the tulpar. truthfully, the nurse is quite excited to have some help.

dark eyes linger on the redhead, a slight smile on anya's face. while she tends to exude somewhat of a gloomy & passive energy, anya still does her best to be open and kind. ❛ i'm really looking forward to meeting you.

i hope you were okay during the take-off...! i know it kind of tends to, um, jolt people around a lot. ❜

❛ oh... thank you! ❜ compliments from another woman are always welcome, even if a stranger — and a stranger who's quite a looker, at that. a gentle smile shows on the nurse's face, her hand gently tugging at the hem of her turtleneck sweater. it was a pale, pastel blue striped with white; it didn't feel like anything special, but a little compliment sure did bring a smile to her face.

a tiny chuckle escapes the nurse, her smile unmistakable. she's heard a lot about finnick — the victor of district four, who won at a staggeringly young age. the purpose of the games seems so utterly abysmal and contradictory to anya; it isn't fair that someone so young could be put through something so atrociously violent. ( though, really, it couldn't be much better at any age. )

helping out victors in the hospital feels like the very least anya could do. serving the food, though... well, anya won't deny it's particularly bland and unappealing for most, even the long-time inhabitants of district thirteen.

❛ i know... it's not that great, is it? but it's important for your recovery to try and eat some, if you can. ❜ the nurse smiles at @odairing, tilting her head slightly to the side with a hand tucked underneath her chin. a common pose for her. ❛ i'm sure the food must be a lot better in district four, hm...? probably lots of good seafood? it must be nice. ❜
