Still thinking about how the fae manipulate language to bend the truth and how Holly Black does the same thing to the reader in TCP when she conceals Jude's plan to make Cardan high king.

So I went to the event at Washington where Holly was she answered 3 questions of mine plus others

1. It never occurred to her to write a Cardan pov full length novel but she’s open to it. (And to her she already wrote a Cardan pov until someone worded wisely full length novel not just Cardan pov)

2. She doesn’t know everything that happens in her books if she doesn’t need to know in fact she didn’t even know what Cardan wrote until her editor wanted to know

3. Valerian lusted after Jude but hated her as well. Think of the way mysoginist still sexually want women, and that’s Valerian’s lusts for Jude.

4. Locke had feelings for Jude. He’s just a crappy person who wants to fit into his stories.

5. She considers fanfics, headcanons and fanart as equal a way to enjoying her characters as reading the books

6. Faerie beauty is like an alien beauty, like they’re not beautiful in a way that is sexually attractive but beautiful in a way you would find a dog beautiful or the sunrise beautiful or a carnivorous plant, think of the alien man in the shape of water type of beauty

7. Orianna and Madoc do have feelings for each other they just don’t know it

Ngl I find it really icky that all the boys in Cardan's group were attracted to Jude. It makes the bullying they subjected her to wayyy creepier. Like they were making fun of Jude for her mortality but also fetishising her for it at the same time??!

Ik this doesn't apply to Cardan as much bc obviously he was into Jude for her personality (hence why he never showed any interest in Taryn), but it does somewhat tarnish their early interactions for me. Especially because Cardan and Valerian were quite similar in their desire to scare/hurt Jude, it's just that Valerian wanted to go further.

Rereading TCP and do you - do you realize Jude absolutely does not have fun with anyone except for Cardan? She’s always on guard, all the time, but when she’s with Cardan she has fun. Even when she thinks he’s abhorrent she still thinks he’s fun. She has not described any other character in that specific way, even characters she love. She also admits it’s one of the reasons she falls for him.

big fan of maisie peter’s writer’s motif on the good witch. she’s a witch, she does tarot, she’s also a songwriter, all seemingly in order to write her own destiny. the most obvious examples of this are: [you had the speaking part, but i guess i was the playwright] [lost my page when you kissed me, now i remember the whole book] [i can write you out the way i wrote you in] [a new home, a swan dive, a blank page, a rewrite], and other more subtle references to writing. but in the end, one of the last lines of the album is [i tried to rewrite it but i can’t, it’s the history of man]. no matter how hard she tries, she doesn’t actually have that much control (maybe that’s why she’s the good witch bc they don’t practice dark magic). however! while she can’t actually change destiny, she can write and create ‘a universe that you can live in’. it’s her song and her stage and her coming of age, no matter how powerless she is in her real life. she actually already alludes to this in you signed up for this with‘ it’s my narration’. i think it’s really interesting and really highlights the power of words and creation and linking this ‘power’ to witchcraft is really clever imo

It just hit me that when Cardan takes Jude's hand and says “there is nothing sweeter than that which is scarce” she is LITERALLY MORTAL. Her life is fundamentally scarce.

i find it hilarious that almost everyone in the folk of the air series knew about jude and cardans romantic feeling for each other except jude and cardan themselves😭 madoc knew, locke knew, balekin knew, nicasia was suspicious but didn’t want to face the truth. I even believe the court of shadows had a feeling something was going on between the two. the roach DEFINITELY KNEW. lady asha knew too!! the reason she intercepted the letters!!!

throughout the books we get hints and reveals of the side characters knowing about jude and cardans love for each other. EVERYONE KNEW EXCEPT JUDE…..and CARDAN
