Slow Burn … I now it’s a rather subjective distinction, I’m probably partial to “medium burn” myself, but I tried to pick out fics that focused on building the Reylo dynamic via banter, subplot, etc, before a romantic declaration or smuttville arrives.  Most of these have a lot of UST between the lines, but no smut until at least the last quarter or very end.  Hope these fit the bill you were looking for.  Enjoy!

Deep Beneath the Light by Crysania 

Ben says “Yes” … to Han.  I loved everything about this concept, it’s one I have mulled over a number of times - the possibilities for Bendemption and Reylo that diverges from the father/son moment on the walkway (or even from the interrogation scene, as in @shadowlass‘s WIP Family as a Fine Art).  Han Lives, Kylo/Ben faces the conflict inside himself, truths unspoken come out and Rey takes notice.  This is the heart of the story that corporate entities couldn’t be bothered with telling us, bc it would seem “naive”.  (Sorry, I’m still bitter from December).  At any rate, this is a wonderful story and I enjoyed it.

Isolated/Stranded Together Trope & Amnesia Trope.  Who Ben and Rey would be if they couldn’t remember their pasts.  Very interesting character studies about who they are intrinsically and how without their identities, memories, force abilities and external labels they piece together who they think they are.  

The Way to Tomorrow by @the-reylo-void​

Post-TFA Divergent.  Exiled Ben.  Luke Lives.  Sometime after the events of TFA, the Resistance wins the war and sentences Ben to a year of exile.  Thanks to the Force Bond, Ben’s not as alone as his exile had been meant to be.  Somber mood, with Ben doing some heavy reflection and soul searching, even Rey does a good dose of internal reflection. Post-TLJ, sucked into a time warp. The only time travel I have read where instead of the characters trying to change the past, they focused on living in the present for a hopeful future.  (Also, this has one of the best bittersweet moments between Han Solo and Kylo/Ben.  It’s endearing and heart-breaking, and exactly what Ben (and I as a reader) needed).  

This Together, Any Together by @shipatfirstsight

Well written portrayal of a very antagonistic canon Kylo and Rey dynamic progressing into a domestic portrait of the two after they wake up married on modern day Earth. Diverges from canon post-TFA. The very meta touch that on Earth Ben and Rey are married authors who gained popularity from a book they wrote together and are now, supposedly, working on the sequel, is brilliant. The Reylo arc is nicely developed, but what is most endearing is the interactions between Ben and Han (who is alive in this reality). Ben’s longing for a relationship with this version of his father, who isn’t scared of him in this reality, is bittersweet.

A saga worth reading. Good characterizations, probable reylo arcthat progresses into a “realistic” domesticity. Extremely wellwritten, appears to be a professional writer. No cliffhanger, it’s notnecessary to continue with sequels, but they were just as good.

Grad student Rey (accidentally) enlists intimidating Professor Solo to deter unwanted advances by Hux.  Endearing, self deprecating and at times, a relatable, inner monologue of Rey pairs nicely with unapologetic Ben, whose super power is to unnerve stressed, grad students, but seems to hold an inexplicable soft spot for Rey.

Angsty take on the trope, it takes a little while for Kylo/Ben and Rey to warm up to each other, both being rather guarded.  I really liked how they were both portrayed in this, their tentativeness towards each other gave it a bit of a somber feel.  After a Thanksgiving at the Solos where they felt more of a sense of belonging than either would admit, a sense of hope for unexpected possibilities begins to emerge.  Part 2 in the series is up now and serves as an interlude between Ben and Rey back at college.  The author’s notes imply there is more to come in this series and I’m looking forward to the progression between these two as they begin to build trust in each other and themselves.

Hell, even the pictures the team post of Anthony in the locker room after the game with his shirt and shoulders off still in his hockey pants with his hair sweaty have Kate biting her fist. She’s no better than a man catcalling women on the street.

Imagine her surprise when Anthony comes out of his bathroom the first morning she spends at his house. He’s got a towel wrapped so low around his waist it may as well not be there. It’s not a surprise to Kate that Anthony’s hot. Of course it isn’t. She’s aware of who she’s dating. But there’s something about him just casually striding into his kitchen with his hair damp and swept off his forehead, water droplets still clinging to his chest hair that catches her a bit off guard.

Kate’s sitting at his breakfast bar wearing one of his plaid shirts and all she can do is stare at him.

“I’ll make breakfast.” Anthony leaned down to brush his lips against hers. “Scrambled eggs? Or sunny side up?”

“Scrambled, thanks.”

All she could do is stare at him as he started cracking eggs into a bowl. Anthony could obviously sense her eyes on him because he raised his eyebrows. “Something wrong?”

Kate blinked at him, “Are you aware how hot you are?”

Anthony snorted, “I don’t know how to answer that.”

“You can’t just pop out of nowhere only wearing a towel!”

“Oh and it’s so easy to be around you!” Anthony poked the whisk in her direction. “Just sitting here with the sun in your hair, staring at me! Wearing my shirt as well!”

“I’m happy to give it back any time.”

Anthony’s head jerked backwards, “Well don’t do that! You should wear only my clothes from now on!”

People complain because that is truly ridiculous.
