I think I like the religious symbolism in iron lung because it shows how ugly that shit fucking is.

I know a lot of people around here have discussed that christianity sucks but that they do vibe with bible jesus. Yeah, well the jesus equivalent in this movie was forced to die and went down kicking and screaming and it was an ugly tragedy and a waste of life and everyone felt bad about it.

The lamb didn't meekly take it, that guy was fucking scared and in pain and he'd rather (as I've seen some other people put it) rip himself off of his own crucifixion and leave an arm behind than stay in there.

I recall Jesus also begged to live, y'know. Before he accepted his duty/death. Did Simon accept his death for a noble sake? The survival of humanity? Or did he just not have any kind of choice but to accept it, because all was already over? Did he accept it at all?

the symbolism of the lamb and sacrifice is supposed to bring an air of horror and uncomfortability because someone was given the most torturous execution all for the crime of loving His own.

and He spends the hours before in fear.

Matthew 26:39 - Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus is man. He fears suffering and desires peace. but He is also God. He has the omiscience to know that this suffering sacrifice must occur to give humanity a chance at being saved and that He is the only one who fits the requirements. and He still asks to live.

i think because of our current day filled with suffering and it's accompanied by technology that continually blasts it, we can fall into the trap of being desensitized to such tragedy.

iron lung is good because on one hand it's like "hey if there was an ocean of blood and we threw a guy down there would that be fucked up or what" but also it's about humanity and the want to survive and the need to survive and what is worth the cost of a life but it's also about the inhuman treatment of criminals and where we draw the line but it's also about simon saying "it's bigger than me" during his self sacrificial act for humanity it's also about "you deserve your freedom. i'm sorry i can't give you that." it's about oh my god i love cosmic horror it's about seeing such an incredibly beautiful and artistic and human and independent film prevail it's about everything and it's about what you are when you're left at the edge of nothing. so yeah the movie is ok

just saw the superman movie,, (lovveed despite not being that much of a dc girlie, well done gunn) and i scroll through tumblr after as one does and so of course all the takes are coming across my dash.

and they aren't all incorrect! what is just stuck circling through my mind rn a 2am when i was supposed to be asleep by 11 at the latest,, is just the constant divide that is everywhere.

"of course the superman movie is political, it was born to make a statement" "superman isn't political, you just despise the idea of being a good person just to be a good person"

i'm not saying either of these takes are bad !! and i know the saying that art is always political, that there's always a message underneath but i am just so so sooo tired of politics.

i ended up starting to look into more stuff in my freshman year-ish? i don't super remember what was trending at that time, i just know that's when i started listening to some political podcasts out of no where.

i don't think i ever truly knew where i stood. i disagreed with most liberal beliefs so that made me a conservative then, right? but then i also had a few disagreements with conservatives, and the overwhelming boorish tone that came with conservative discussions also rubbed me the wrong way. and then looking at liberals that were supposed to be 'the loving community' and they had animosity often as well.

so i disliked both! and wanted to find a middle!

but there's just so much divide that sometimes i feel like there is no middle. like i logically understand that there truly is no correct party to align with (because all are made by humans and all humans are inherently flawed and imperfect), but when you're a baby adult in the smorgasbord that is the united states, literally what else can you do???

anyways, i needed to spitball so all this annoyance at the world would get out of my head for the time being, and now i can maybe get some sleep.

cough, cough, on track now: loved the movie, i got the seats that move with the movie so i had extra fun, punkrocker has been on repeat for the last four hours, and i spent so much time admiring david corenswet during the movie. 10/10.

genuinely so disappointed in httyd fandom at the moment.

it is totally valid to dislike the live action remake. it is also totally valid to enjoy it.

i watched a few nights ago, and had some gripes (the cutting of some iconic lines like 'talking fishbone' and 'we're vikings, it's an occupational hazard', the twins had little to no chemistry, and the complete absence of the 'not so fireproof on the inside' scene.)

but there were also some details i enjoyed (snotlout's short interactions with his dad, valka's fate being brought up multiple times to feed stoic's motivations, and personally to me the vfx weren't bad.)

people are always going to dislike things, and no piece of media will ever be 100% adored. the sentiment that people are tired of live action remakes is extremely completely valid!!

what is not valid is shaming other fans for enjoying the live action. i have seen so many posts where people are shouting calls of "if you enjoyed the live action, you're actively hating the originals!" "if you went to see the live action in theaters, you are a part of the group that's killing animation!"

which is just so.. childish?? there is no geniune reason that one person cannot like both movies. did i enjoy the live action? yeah. will the original 2010 continue to be my all-time favorite movie? absolutely.

hate it all you want, but don't berate others who didn't. you're calling people stupid and saying they're blinded by nostalgia for enjoying the movie? sounds to me like you're the one stuck in a child's tantrum.

It's the fact that Fyodor clearly enjoys hurting people.

He wanted an audience for breaking Kunikida. He wanted the man who tried to break Kunikida and ended up believing in him to witness Fyodor succeeding where he failed.

He smiled when revealing to Fukuzawa he's lied to and toyed with Fukuchi. Fyodor not only turned Fukuchi into the same monster he was supposed to protect the world from, but reveled in letting Fukuzawa know he'd done it.

He purposely tormented Atsushi with the possibility of getting his friends back for no reason other than his enjoyment. His eyes were practically sparking with delight as he told Atsushi over and over it's his fault his friends are gone.

He likes opening people up, seeing what makes them tick, what they love and what he can twist just enough to break them.

This is fun to him. Emotionally breaking people is fun to him.
