Hey, Followers
Every time I get a new follow notification I am pleased and a little bit baffled and whisper “but why?” to my phone. So, pls appease my curious mind- why did you follow me? Where’d ya come from? Do u wanna be friends. r u in love with me.
This month is round 2 of fic rec bingo: trope edition. This bingo comes from wild-aloof-rebel and definitely join in if you want to! A lot of these tropes are ones that I’ve already recced before so some of my choices are ones that either weren’t written yet or just got cut off when I was making the decision. I also wanted to branch out more and have fics that weren’t just David/Patrick ones. I wanted to make recs, but a little more in-depth, and because of this there may be some slight spoilers.

Summary: A David/Patrick tale inspired by Greek mythology.
Hear a tale of what it means to trust your heart Of an artist and his love, a work of art Of a singer and a man who was a song And the fears and frets that let it all go wrong
Thoughts: This fic fulfills the bingo square: Angst. Strap in everyone this fic rides the angst train like no other and it’s goddamn beautiful. I haven’t read a lot of fanfic that’s poetry based but this sets the bar high for any other poetry fic I’ll ever read. I lost my damn mind when I first read this. It does such a wonderful job of weaving in its inspiration along with references to canon.
Also this time I read it out loud for shits and giggles and holy hell I had to stop a few times because it was just so powerful and intense. If you ever have time to do that I highly recommend.
Recommended if you like: Poetry, Bittersweet stories, and fic under 5k

I wish to do the thing! Send me numbers orrrrr like the post and I will go down the list and answer one q for every like bc that is what I saw on Twitter 👀
1. The only title that hasn’t come pretty instantly is Path to Paradise, Road to Ruin. The working title was just “Hell”, and then when it came to posting time I actually wrote a list of about 20 options. The eventual winner was the first on the list, naturally. (I just went to look at the list and they were all awful). I also had a small amount of agony over The Banterpalooza, which was also the working title, and then I was like “…could I just actually title it this?” and the two people I ran it past were like “yolo” so, I did. It does what it says on the tin.
2. Yes so all of the others came easily, but I think Pagliacci has the lone status of being titled within moments of coming up with the idea, and well before I started writing.
3. I rarely actually have music playing while I write, because it fucks with my focus, but I had a mood playlist while working on Path to Paradise, Road to Ruin. Obviously a lot of Hadestown and Noah Reid songs were on it, as well as Orpheus by Sara Bareilles, which I think is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
4. l have fun writing all the characters, I really like shifting into their different voices. But David is an eternal joy, and I write him the most. He’s so distinctive. And the space between what he’s thinking and feeling, and how he wants to be seen, is rich for mining.
I got another Like so you’re subjected to more information.
5. I think of the characters I’ve written I’ve found Stevie the most difficult. Just balancing her snark and her warmth.
Also writing Roland’s voice in iambic pentameter* was challenging but v v rewarding.
*not strictly
6. Ah, that’ll be Pinguino.
7. The battle between Heart and Mind is a central theme in, like, my existence, so it finds its way into my writing a lot. Explicitly only in Heart/Lightning (for David) and Path to Paradise, Road to Ruin (for Patrick). Oh also It’s For You. I forgot that existed despite it being the most recent and also longest thing I’ve written.
8. I guess I would like to try and write something properly long? But maybe not because that just sounds hard lol. I want to write Bob’s beat poetry.
THANKS FOR ALL THE NEW LIKES, FRIENDS! 9. I want to get better at plotting, I guess? That ties in with wanting to write longer things. Also writing scene-setting descriptive stuff. I can’t be bothered with that most of the time and I just go straight for the introspection and dialogue. 10. J O K E S. I’m good at jokes. Jokes just occur as I write. This is a blessing I am grateful for. It also means jokes sneak in to even my angstiest offerings (but according to @whetherwoman, “The dancing makes the murder worse.”) For the biggest proportions of joke content, see Vanilla Ice Cream (Imagine That), The Banterpalooza, and Men In Parks. 11. Please show me the boys in the gelato shop. 12. Uhhhh they’re all probably too short or canon-y to be movies or tv serieseses. Maybe the poem could make a nice short film?
This got to 17 without me apparently noticing so here’s some more words! 13. “A fic of yours you’d cameo in as a side character (and who you’d play)” One of the people jogging in the park in Men In Parks who is not good at splitting eye contact between dogs and their owners. (I would not be one of the people at the bakery instagramming their croissants, because I would do what David does and try to do that surreptitiously at a second location.) Oh scratch that, I’m one of the reindeer in A Very Score Christmas Song.
14. “A fic of yours you’d like to try remixing” HMMMM. Maybe Heart/Lightning from Patrick’s POV? It’s very much just a David interior analysis but it might be interesting to think about what information his meticulously chosen image actually gets across to people. Maybe not just Patrick but everyone who sees him that day. Anyway I will never write this. 15. “A fic of someone else’s you’d like to try remixing” I’ll cheat a bit and say I’d write something else in the soft witchy Twyla/Alexis-verse of Crystal Clear which @uhohmorshedios wrote for me for OFN2. Because it is perfect and I want there to be more. 16. “A fic of yours that took you out of your comfort zone while writing” Uhhhh most of them! The poem for sure, because I’d never tried rhyming verse. And definitely The Banterpalooza because it included the sex scene that I wrote as an anonymity decoy because people know I don’t write sex. I had a couple of full breakdowns from that process and I still feel very Yikes about it (it’s the only one that’s locked on ao3.) But yeah fic in general has me writing a lot more earnestly and vulnerably than I’m used to, which I am very grateful for. <3 17. “A fic of someone else’s that made you want to try something new in your own writing” mmmm I would say generally following along with stories by the likes of @blueink3 @creativelapses and many many others made me want to write something I could post chapter by chapter. But the experience of doing that with It’s For You without having it all written before I started posting (IT WAS ALL AN ACCIDENT) was hellish and I hated it!

HEY GUESS WHAT
It’s my one and only precious bébé’s first birthday! One year ago I published Path to Paradise, Road to Ruin, my David/Patrick epic poem adaptation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. I have been in love with it since I had the idea, and all through the writing process. I put my whole heart and brain into it, learned a fuckload (including, like, how to write in verse), and I’m prouder of it than anything else I’ve created (including in my actual creative career- oops). The response it’s gotten from readers has been phenomenally gratifying and heartwarming.
However in publishing it on this date, I made the unfortunate mistake of making it a Leo, and so it has lived its life so far in constant need of attention.
This makes it extra tragique that it has proved far less popular than almost everything else I’ve written. If you like me or anything I’ve written pls help me celebrate its birthday by doing any of these things-
-Reading it (or re-reading, or re-re-reading) -Sharing it with people who might not see “epic poem based on greek myth” and go “yes please”, but might do so with your personal recommendation. -Asking me questions about it! Anything! I would love to share bits of the process or inspiration or meanings or anything!
Also I changed a line in it last night because The Work Is Never Done (and I really like it!). This is a challenge to the Tru Fans to see if you can pick it out. (It’s very cute.)
ok listen
everybody
If you have not yet read this MASTERPIECE you need to sit yourself down RIGHT NOW because it is genuinely one of my Top Five All Time Favorite Schitt’s Creek Fics and very probably Top Five All Time Favorite fics. It is hilarious. It is heartbreaking. The character voices are PERFECTION even though they’re IN VERSE. The rhymes and meter are perfect. This is a genuine goddamn masterpiece of transformative work so do yourself a favor and read it.

Fanfic Writer Friday
Alright fellow fanfic friends, it’s Friday, the best day of the week, and it’s about to get a lot more fun. Ya know why?
Reblog this post if you want people to send you asks about your writing process, wip/fics, or headcanons today! For each ask you get, send and ask back in return!
This is a weekly event, to be held every Friday (obviously) and is open to all fanfic writers in any fandom! Don’t be shy about sending asks to blogs you don’t know—this is a great way for writers to get to know different blogs and fics, and make new friends!
(in case you feel like you’ve seen something like this before, this is based of of writeblr’s Storyteller Saturday, aka STS!)
