John Deakin and the Lure of Soho.
When finding yourself exhausted by the High Street big firms and shoppers, there's no better hide away than The Photographers' Gallery. After a day at Red's office, I ventured myself into this cozy and charming gallery, a real hidden treasure in the heart of Soho. I was about to miss this fantastic show, when I glimpsed some weird looking paintings out of the corner of my eye, on my way out. A selection of artists' photographs, street and fashion shots for Vogue make this exhibition a captivating portrait of Soho and London in its golden days. It is refreshing seeing Deakin's eclectic body of work on display, ranging from collage, painting and photographs that makes this a warm and diverse exhibition. The indelible and common element that ties together Deakin's beautiful prints is undoubtedly the grain that adds credibility as well as physicality to the images; something irreplaceable that I will forever seek in digital photographs. While looking at Restaurant' signs and their owners, captured while posing in a carefree attitude, a range of more staged shots reveal the bohemian lifestyle of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. Deakin seems to me a virtuous forerunner of Richard Avedon.
isn't life a series of images that changes as they repeat themselves?

Busy buzzy, a viavai of glamorous women actively cooperating to maintain this wonderful machine that is Red, a proactive and diverse fashion magazine.Â
It is such a privilege being able to witness the happenings and incidents within an office ruled and directed by women. So I occupy a desk in between the fashion and beauty department where I can sit and observe the circulatory system of Red.
Whether rainy or sunny, Red’s secret factory of dreams and ideas seems to keep entertained by the tricky selection of top fashion brands, ‘Shall we keep a Valentino or a Dolce for the next issue’s story?’. Glamorous assistants bring to display new choices of exclusive pieces by wordily acclaimed designers, while the clinking of the movements of the clothes stand orchestrates their movements: a reassuring soundtrack on loop.
Each person’s desk in the beauty department is a little shrine where the avant-garde cream tubes are carefully arranged alongside the latest scents by Dior or Chanel. I had no idea the whimsical colours palettes and mood boards that are weekly composed and discussed while a sip of rose tea and chocolate orange biscuits…..Lipsticks and eyeshadow nuances adorn the officers’ heads like elegant contemporary icons that shine among the clouds gathering outside.
Nina Fuga, artist in residence at Red Magazine, documents what happens beneath the gloss of the fashion publication. By capturing the buzz of the office and the dynamics of a cover shoot, Fuga aims to create a captivating visual portrayal of people and anecdotes revolving around Red.
