there’s something deeply wrong with me where did my beautiful love for writing fanfiction about the only men I love in my life go. i swear i’m trying but my fingers don’t click clack on my keyboard like they used to
controversial but i have to say this: i’m seeing a lot of takes railing against the gpda and asking "why are they not doing anything about how bad the new regulations are?", and unfortunately bestie, I think you’re all massively overestimating the other drivers on the grid and their ability to actually stand for anything.
george russell, head of the gdpa, was literally trying to action something as small as ensuring there was showering facilities for the drivers at every grand prix last year…and no one would back him!! one of the drivers literally said: "we should make sure there’s a hairdryer at every event just for george’s use" like you really think they’re going to george and carlos and actually trying to come together to make change?? that would actually require they step out of their own little bubble and do something difficult, like prepare an actual proposal, organize a strike, actually convey their reservations without devolving into swearing and shouting.
the persistent idea that the gpda is useless, or should be disbanded, or that george and carlos are using it to enact their own personal grievances against certain drivers (specifically max) is laughable. george only took the job because nobody else could be bothered to do it. it’s not george that is not taking the job seriously, it is literally everyone else! at the end of the day, none of the other drivers really care to utilize the gdpa correctly; it’s too much work for them, they don’t care, they don’t want to be involved in making the sport "too woke".
I’m just confused as to what y’all actually expect the gdpa to do in this situation when the other drivers are so unwilling to collaborate and stand together on a single issue? They’re not looking for real, systematic change, they just want to reserve the right to complain.
The fact that people are screaming about the George/Trump thing when we have no context, when we all KNOW how DTS intentionally manipulates content for drama and a reaction, AND it's been said that it's obvious the producers have cut things to make George look particularly bad... Come the fuck on. Again, absolutely no critical thought is coming from the mob.
These people are NOT AMERICAN, they don't have their finger on the pulse of US politics. It's been established that at the time most of the world saw Trump as nothing more than a joke. Things were NOT THIS BAD at the time of the 2024 Miami GP. Nobody thought he had a chance of reelection. Yeah, he is a piece of shit, but so are plenty of other people at Grands Prix. (Obviously, different levels exist.) As I said about Lando (after being really angry), it is not reasonable to have expected any of them to have a real grasp on Trump and his policies when at the time he was nothing more than a laugh and a crazy celebrity for most people outside of the US.
But of course, George (and anyone else) should've been clairvoyant and known what was coming months later, and he should be aware of political happenings in a country he doesn't live in that do not affect him in any way, just like all of you should know all about every leader of every country and all of their policies. Be for real.
George has always supported the right things on his own, by his own choice, on his own time. He has also been very interested in seeing every celebrity that comes around to races. The fact that, AGAIN, nobody seems to be able to take a step back and think critically is unsurprising. It's easier to grab pitchforks and make wild claims to show how morally superior y'all are, right?
I am also not thrilled about George, or anyone, being excited to meet that evil rotting corpse. But I also know that there is ZERO evidence George supports anything he stands for, and that sometimes people get excited to meet/see famous people.
And let's not forget, the FIA has gagged the drivers even tighter than before, so they can't speak out on ANY of this or openly support ANY cause (at the track, at least, as I understand it) that's not pre-approved - which is something George is fighting against as GPDA director.
But sure, I get it, facts and reality and common sense don't matter to the people competing in the Morality Olympics.
anyways i just posted my first george fic, but i wanted to talk about some “news” i’ve seen recently in the f1 community.
checo pérez quite literally has his seat threatened if he doesn’t perform by summer break? like, firstly redbull renews him for the next two seasons, but now they’re saying if he doesn’t perform this season he’s gonna be dropped? also, saying you renewed him just for confidence? christian horner i will hunt you down. and who is in talks to replace him… daniel ricciardo. moving on to daniel ricciardo.
daniel is also not performing what he should. given, yeah he’s in the shitbox. but he is also in news of “risking his seat for next season” but they’re gonna promote him to redbull? where’s the logic in that. he’s underperforming in a mid-field car, how is that helpful for him to be upgraded to one of the best cars on the grid. if i want someone to replace checo, it’s gonna be liam lawson. until the death, i will wish for liam lawson in that redbull seat.
next, ollie bearman to haas. ever since i knew ollie existed in the f1 world, i have been a fan. i’m not a big watcher of f2, but i’ve seen his stats. and saudi arabia? that was a mighty performance he gave! he absolutely deserves the seat next year, and i can’t wait to see him race in f1.
paul 👏🏼 aron 👏🏼 deserves 👏🏼 an 👏🏼 f1 👏🏼 seat 👏🏼!!! the man who is LEADING the f2 championship WITHOUT A WIN, who is leading based on pure CONSISTENCY, does not have a formula one seat for next year and this is an absolute crime!!!! (kimi antonelli hate incoming, cover ur eyes if you don’t wanna read this) paul aron deserves a seat much more than kimi.
KIMI ANTONELLI, MAN OF THE MERCEDES HOUR. needs more experience to be in f1. toto rushed the poor child. you pull him from f4 all the way to f2. you wanted him to be moved to f1 to replace logan, so he wouldn’t even have finished his f2 season. would’ve been from f4 to f1. is the man crazy?
lastly, carlos mf sainz. there’s rumors he’s holding on to signing because he’s also “replacing” checo, that versainz ship has sailed long gone. and as the biggest self-titled versainz 2025 truther before my dreams were crushed, i can come to terms that carlos will not be waiting for horner to drop checo mid-season. HOWEVER, i want carlos in that mercedes. goodbye williams, sauber, and alpine. give me carlos in mercedes 2025. see, listen to my mind logic. carlos to mercedes for two years, 2025 and 2026. 2026 will be the year audi comes in. carlos can see how audi performs, and if they have the potential carlos seeks carlos can move to audi. and once carlos’ 2-year contract ends, i can see kimi coming in to take the mercedes seat.
also did y’all see that whack ass movie trailer for f1? couldn’t come up with a better title. it’s just, f1. i love twitter, because they’re making pages about the movie’s team, such as the actual team twitter accounts, the drivers (team joshua or sonny? i’m team joshua), they even had nyck de vries on the team and he was also dismissed, gossip pages, it’s all over the place. it’s the best thing to come out of f1twt.
