The Monolith had been lying very still, his frame quivering with the rippling contractions and occasional choppy pant. Moving made the searing yet frigid film that was mingling over his inner aithur push to other regions of his body and the sensation was too much to experience in tandem with the racing thoughts of nothingness sprawling in his head. Memories and faces of Zu he'd just met and some he'd known for eons each had shifting and missing features that urged him to fight to fill in the gaps... but this uncanny darkness blocked him from piecing them together. Their names in his ears remained a tangled cacophony of sounds that under normal conditions he would not struggle to parse. And yet it was so very quiet.

Something wanted him to focus on these memories and that same something withheld him of the satisfaction of getting it right before moving on to the next train of thought mercilessly. The writhing was not just in his head but his belly too, deep in the core of his aithur where promises were fought to the death over keeping. She, the foreign body which bestowed this affliction upon him, had left her marks inside and out. Dwindling trinkets from the fallen rock also surveyed him long after her departure. Were these measures taken out of distrust in Raúl? Or were they to keep him company while the incubation was to proceed? He barely noticed them even in full midday light for his sight was lost to this turbid miasma that seemed to leak crawl from every point of escape that it could. It trickled down from his eyes, his nose, the corners of his mouth and dripped onto the ground beneath him vanishing almost instantly. Whatever she and the stars asked of him he would honor but these observers would remain deep inside of him protected by his warmth... his passion... his reason for being...
