or, if you must depict women maintaining that shit, at least be interesting about it. I can actually buy someone shaving/putting on makeup if that’s their way of coping, something they do to tether themselves to the past or an ellusive feeling of normalcy. So show me the EFFORT put in, yeah? Show that woman risking a zombie horde because she spotted a fucking tube of scarlet lipstick and christ she hasn’t seen that color in five years but it’s what she wore on her first date with her now-dead husband. Show me the girl who is quietly starting to fucking lose it but covers it up with fanatical commitment to her appearance because if she gets these eyebrows right, maybe no one will notice how she stares at things that aren’t there. I find it completely plausible that some women would go to incredible lengths to maintaining their appearance, because they’ve been socialized all their lives to caring about it, because it’s a part of their identity. So show me how that part gets negotiated with once the world has gone to hell.

So what if Kairi got a dog after she got back to the islands because she missed Pluto. Imagine her with this big fluffy dog named Venus who always has a goofy grin and is always wagging his tail and loves to swim and chase fish. He adores Riku and Sora but will *always* go to Kairi if she calls for him, she’s his favorite. At night he curls up next to her on her bed and protects her from nightmares, snuggling close and letting her hug him like a teddy bear when she needs comfort.
When Kairi’s sitting on the couch an Hes too lazy to hop onto the couch he just leans against her leg and pants happily. She brings him with her when they train, and he decides he doesn’t like Lea. He scares Kairi, so he doesn’t like him. Whenever the two are in the same room, he’ll stay pressed to her leg and just stares at Lea until he goes away. It takes a while for him to warm up to him, but Lea rubs his ear in *just* the right spot and he turns to putty in is hands.
Whenever Sora and Riku visit Venus beats Kairi to hug them, tackling to the ground ad licking their faces while barking happily. He’s a big dog, and they could push him off easily, but there a little distracted with the dog currently licking their faces like ice cream. Eventually Kairi stops laughing and calls him over, and Venus obediently paddles over to her, proud of his licking spree and getting to see his boys.
He’s scared of crabs and Donald, he also doesn’t like geese or ducks, or any birds really. He finds them scary, despite being bigger than them, including Donald. Whenever he gets scared, he runs behind Kairi and sticks his head through her legs, whimpering as he watches the scary robin from his safe place under Kairi. If the bird comes closer, he huffs, offended and unable to believe that it would come after him after he ran away, and he does a sort of peak a boo thing where he moves his head in and out of his hiding place until Kairi has to jog away laughing cause his fur tickled her too much.
He likes cats oddly enough, and doesn’t understand why Pete always runs away from him. He’s iffy with Mickey, but adores Minnie. Daisy scares him cause Donald’s scared of her, and Venus is scared of Donald, so he’s scared of daisy.
Whenever there’s a battle, Venus goes and hides under a bush, knowing he’s in danger and that Kairi can protect them both. He may protect her from what she’s scared of, but she protects him from what can and will hurt him. The two are best friends, and are always protecting each other.
I’ve been thinking about Kingdom Hearts lately (I only care about the Disney-toon parts) and I love AUs where Mickey takes in Riku like a son.
I raise you an AU further:
Mickey finds Riku as a baby in DisneyTown. He and Minnie raise him as their own. Well, after Mickey fails to find out where Riku came from and figures that whoever abandoned probably did so because they didn’t want him.
Riku lives a happy, peaceful life in DisneyTown until he’s around six years old. That’s when Yensid tells Mickey about a vision of the future he had where Maleficent takes an interest in Riku when he’s older.
To keep Riku safe, Yensid takes his memories and tampers with the collective memories of Destiny Island’s inhabitants before sending him there. Per Mickey’s request to “Send him somewhere safe”.
KH1 happens all the same except with allusions from Maleficent about Riku’s true past. And yes, Kairi’s backstory is still the same and Sora is still unremarkable compared to them.
Donald and Goofy are reminded of the boy from years ago whenever they encounter Riku.
That’s all I got for now. I would love to hear people’s opinion on this.

GENUINELY THAT BE SUCH A CUTE/SAD IDEA
I just imagine Mickey finding Riku the same way as Mr.Ping found Po in Kung Fu Panda 2, Mickey on a small patrol then finding a small mysterious human baby found in a small crate in the outskirts of Disney town. Crying his lil heart out because of how cold and lonely. Mickey immediately takes the baby in and tries searching to see if anyone’s gonna pick or find him only to conclude that this poor lil guy has no one. So he decides to take him in, though he asks Minnie first about this only to realize that she quickly snagged the baby from his arms and is doting on him being an obvious yes from her.
Just like ya said, Riku lives a peaceful life in Disney Town as their beloved Prince even if he’s not related to the rules but still beloved regardless. He loves his parents very much (Tho he kinda wants to be a mouse like his parents but Mickey and Minnie explained to him that it wasn’t the case) Oh my god, HIM MEETING THE WAYFINDER TRIO ON DISNEY TOWN-
Timeline wise it be very silly that Riku have met the three of them. Like Mickey low key bragging about his Son to Aqua and Ven, how he would love to meet them.!Gosh I just imagine them seeing this silver haired 6 year old boy proudly introducing himself as the Prince of Disney town along with his Momma Minnie. Like the whole Disney town segments is just Riku trying to be a Hero like his Dad helping the denizens from Pete’s antics with his Mom. And admiring the Trio. Pete having the FUNNIEST Rivarly with a fucking 6 year old feels weirdly on brand for him (The reason why Pete doesn’t lay his hands on him is if he did Minnie would Unleash the wrath of a thousand suns upon him with no mercy).
He still gets bequeathed by Terra regardless due to him seeing how much he tries to protect his people. As the Prince it’s his duty to help and defend his subjects even if he’s small.
tho despite what ya intended it would even more sadder that Riku was sent to Destiny Islands AFTER the events of BBS. Due to how traumatically tragic it was for Mickey for failing to help the wayfinder trio and is terrified of something far worse happening (Thanks to Yen Sid’s vision) to Riku and being unable to prevent it. Resulting Riku to be sent there on the first place for his own safety but alas twuas fate’s a cruel mistress.
Even with his Memories Tampered Riku still feels something’s missing and there’s a Level of homesickness that he couldn’t understand. It actually makes his reason to leave destiny Islands weirdly more believable because deep down in his heart there’s more beyond the islands, he can’t explain why but…it’s true…
Also having a habit of drawing small Mickey doodles on the sand (gets slightly teased by friends about it).
Meanwhile everyone in disneytown grieves for their lost Prince and the Mickey and Minnie just felt…Horrible and sad for doing this for their Son (especially Mickey, that decision WAS NOT EASY TO DO-). There’s a Painting of the Royal family on Disney castle when They took Riku as a baby and one when he was Five that hangs in the castle walls as both rules would just look at it sadly. The Lost Prince of Disneytown.
Kh1 would still happen similary with the change but I raise ya that Pete fucking Clocks in that Maleficent’s Brat is actually the Same brat from all those years ago and is NOT HAPPY ABOUT. More reasons for Maleficent to keep Riku in clutches as much as possible. She even twists the truth of his true past how he’s banished and unwanted. Riku would be hurt and even more vulnerable of her manipulation but there would be moments of his true memories resurfacing that contradicts her lies.
Donald and Goofy slowly realize that boy is the Lost Prince and are freaking out HARD (making them leaving Sora in KH1 even more sadder). Mickey with have a thousand heart attacks when he finds Riku in the realm of darkness…HE NEEDS TO BE OUT NOW.
Oh yeah! Sora and Eventually Kairi would be FLOORED to learn that Riku’s Royalty that’s gonna be fun. Especially Riku the poor kid’s about to be the crisis of a lifetime and a THOSAND QUESTIONS LIKE HE’S A PRINCE AND IS ADOPTED MY ROYAL MICE!? WHAT!?

It’s extra funny because Sora’s two best friends turn out to royalty because Kairi’s still a princess from another world and she’s the confirmation that Riku needs to know for certain that other worlds exist.

I absolutely agree on Kairi conforming to Riku that other worlds DO EXIST. His intuition was right about Kairi more reasons to get off these islands and seek answers about Kairi and himself
I feel like Sora would be a bit pouty but wouldn’t change a thing about the fact that Riku and Kairi are still his best friends! Tho he would tease them about it and declares as their knight! Oh- I read along that Sora’s necklace was a gift from Riku imagine if that necklace was a gift from his parents that was kept but gave it to Sora because of how much he means to him.
Tho I’ll say this DisneyCastle’s gonna be really fun for Sora when he sees Riku on those Royal paintings and learning more about his Past as the Lost Prince, before revealing to Minnie that Riku’s still Alive and okay and he’s doing everything that he can to find him and bring him safely earning some grateful tears from her.
It be so fucking ironic that in CoM, Riku’s memories of his Original life slowly starts to comeback to him a contrast of Sora’s memories being severely altered. Him spending time with Mickey helps since that’s his lil baby! Look at him he’s growing up! Taller than him now!! Gosh he’s gonna start fucking bawling if it wasn’t for the fact there in a precarious situation at the Castle Oblivion Rn-
And the DRAMA BETWEEN HIM AND MICKEY WOULD GO SO HARD. Asking Mickey why he sent him away all those years ago and altered his memories in the process forgetting his home, his mama and so much. He’s a mess of restoring memories and a Darkness that haunts his heart, that anger hides so much fear and confusion Mickey being ashamed explains after failing to help his friends and learning the vision, he was terrified of losing him too being in severe danger just like those friends. So he sended him somewhere safe, somewhere where he can make friends and live a happy safe life away from danger.
But Riku bites back saying that while he did lived a normal safe life HE WAS HOMESICK AND LONELY. There’s an apart of him that yearns to be home, at Disney town his family and subjects. The kind people that loved their prince dearly. Of course he doesn’t forget that he has best friends that he made on destiny islands if anything he wants to show them his kingdom- no his family.
But at the same time the share of his darkness and the events of Kh1 still haunts. He doesn’t want to return home being like this. Like how are the people of disneytown- no his Momma, are gonna respond that their prince had terrorized worlds and wielded the darkness that harmed his friends. He can’t go home to be like this, not like this- he doesn’t have the courage to return to his friends!! He’s terrible! No better than Pete!! Amsen or maleficent!!
Mickey pretty much had to help and support Riku, cause he knows dang well that it isn’t true! Riku was always a Kind and sweet boy always looking out for others, he was manipulated, for sure but he always try to do the right thing. Everyone on Disneytown loves their prince darkness or not he’s still his Little Star to him and Minnie!! He will help Riku through this, their keep that darkness uncontrol!! They’ll work together to make things right!! He will not fail him like what happened all those years ago, he will be there for Riku no matter what and He will come home!!
Oh and trust me when Riku does return to Disneytown after the Events of KH2. Everyone lost their shit that Riku’s home, much taller than he was before. Throwing the biggest festival ever, celebrating the return of their beloved prince. Making Riku genuinely emotional and overwhelmed (of course Sora and Kairi are invited too and have their permanent citizenship’s because they are his best friends dammit!!)
His reunion with Minnie was extremely emotional to say the least especially now that he TOWERS over his adopted parents but it didn’t stop them from crushing him with hugs and the amount of tears were shed was CRAZY-
And the best part would be that the only thing Riku has a clear memory of is a wordless, incomplete tune. He doesn’t remember the words, and he doesn’t remember anything other than the intro. But he hums it all the time when he’s stressed or doing something repetitive or just bored.
Whenever Sora or Kairi asks about he says that he heard once but doesn’t remember from where.
He hums it when he’s walking with Mickey in the Darkness after KH1.
Mickey picks up on it immediately as soon as Riku starts to hum it and sings along:
“When you wish upon a star”
Think that one part at the end of Anastasia, that’s how Mickey knows for sure this is his son.
Mickey sings the rest, the rest that Riku’s forgotten: “Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you…”

Genuinely it would be such a surprising moment for Riku that Mickey knows about the rest of the song. It turns out that Song was actually a lullaby that they sing to him when he gets Fussy as a baby or in need of comfort when he’s upset. It’s a special song that’s etched in his heart, something that no magic could ever removed from him.
Gosh Maleficent telling him to shut up everytime he hums that tune around her. So he’ll only hum it when he’s alone.
It was emotional to Mickey to know that Riku still remembers regardless of how incomplete the tune was. His Heart had never forgotten Home, all the more reasons for him keep his boy safe and reconnect with him than he already have.
He would comment that’s where the “Little Star” nickname came from because he found him at night and how bright the stars were and his silver hair.
Gosh I just imagine how much of a wreck when he returns to Disney castle. Like you can’t tell me, he looked incredibly disheveled in his KH2 design. He’s extremely nervous like how everyone would judge him but Sora and the others supports him that regardless they’ll love him no matter. Especially once Minnie sees him, she immediately recognizes him and would be in tears of how her little star grew up so tall and handsome even if he looks like a ragged mess.
Having deep nostalgic feelings of returning to his actual home. Nearly chocking when he sees the paintings, Kairi would tease him of how adorable he looked and everyone else earning some embarrassed protests from him. He would get a change of clothes to reflect his status as a Prince and get cleaned up, but still his style slightly similar to Mickey’s clothes. He still travels and trains as a Keyblade wielder but he’ll always return home to the castle to be with his family and subjects catching up with his Royal training wanting to be a good leader to people of Disney town and spending time with his Momma.
It’s funny cause while Kairi is a princess she doesn’t have royal duties unlike Riku who’s kinda an heir -
And ya bet ur socks that Sora and Kairi are getting a Disneytown tour by Riku himself. It’s gonna be very silly and fun.

But- ok. Imagine the day when Mickey final returned home from the final battle in BBS.
Riku BOOKS IT to his papa from the castle and it’s just- ❤️. By then Minnie comes along, following Riku and the whole family embraces. But something is off about her husband and she just knows something’s happened. It’s in his eyes, the way he holds himself.
And Riku does too.
The family says nothing as they walk back to the castle. They tuck Riku in for the night, sing him the lullaby, and kiss him good night.
And then, walking back to their own bedroom, Mickey drops the bombshell on Minnie: ‘I’m sending him away.’
He didn’t consult her. He just gave some REALLY valid reasons to do so and she. Well- she agreed (after a good long back and forth).
But also consider: Yen Sid being the one to alter memories and sending Riku away. And when Riku learns the truth hates the old master (because someone needs to be responsible) and Yen Sid just accepts this- until!
Everyone learns about Xehnort and the events of BBS. That man is to be blamed for everything and at the end of KH3, it’s Riku who gets to give the killing blow.
(Because what did that guy do to receive a peaceful ending anyway? He ruined the lives of countless people and destroyed entire worlds)

I actually love the idea in this context Riku doesn’t actually train with Yen Sid because of those reasons. Unlike Sora and Kairi who are continuing their training with him while Riku directly trains with Mickey since he’s a Keyblade Master so the old Mouse would know tricks, and his resentment towards the old master is…noticeable for everyone). Maybe he takes a lil longer to catch up to his friends due to focusing on catching with his family and duties. The times that he does come to Mysterious Tower there’s an air of tension in the Room, he’s cold and distant not wanting to do anything with him unless it’s important.
Tho after the whole Xehanort mess is over he semi forgives Yen Sid and are in decent terms.

I actually the funniest idea that in the context of the Au, Mickey was planning to bequeath Riku when he gets slightly older after he finishes his training with Yen Sid. As a cute bonding and passing on the torch between parent and child…

His best friends are royalty and he’s sworn to protect them no matter what. And who better to train to train him for such a position than the Captain of the Royal Guard of DisneyTown?

It was supposed to be special occasion a Ceremony to be celebrated for all!! It was supposed to be a Riku’s special day!! There was supposed to be decorations, friends invited and so much more!
But nope some blockhead with parachute pants had to ruin it-
Also based on a low key headcanon of mind when it comes to the ages of bequeathing keyblade wielders those from Scala (so folks like eraquias and Xehanort) commonly get bequeathed at the ages of 6-10 years old as tradition due to the legends of the keyblade wars and how the hearts of children have more light than getting older in risk of darkness being in their hearts. But for folks like Mickey, Toons tend to wait much longer for the individual to have a form of training and education and some experience before getting bequeathed. Because they understand the value and safety of children, the belief of nurturing their hearts’s light and growth before passing the Keyblade a far more safer belief than those of Scala’s. Plus there’s evidence that folks can develop Keyblades without bequeathing (Axel’s an obvious example)
Mickey plans to bequeath Riku when he’s a Teenager, still young but at least mature enough to understand the circumstances allowing him to grow understanding a watchful eye at least. Hell Mickey became and started Keyblade Stuff as an Adult, a pretty late bloomer but he still became a master regardless. But Riku still asks for the Ceremony regardless because he feels that it’s the least that he can do to bond with his dad more.
So in other news Toons are kinda more progressive than Scalans- also dark road showed us that their society isn’t the best so there’s that-
They’re not perfect but they understand that children shouldn’t be on WARZONES-

Oh Sora would have a dual protection/Mage combat style!! Tho he’ll use drive forms but learning specific techniques with come in handy. It makes me think that Sora tends to bother Riku a lil when doing his Prince duties. They hang out on Destiny islands together tho I like to think Riku did had some childhood friends on Disneytown but they aren’t as close to him compared to Sora and Kairi (but they can reconnect)
It’s so funny to me that this looming silver haired Anime Emo guy is actually the adopted son of two Cartoon mice rules that rule a literal Toon kingdom the whiplash is so funny.
Also if how Riku look so elegant and heroic meanwhile his best friends (Well despite being the princess of Radiant Garden it’s shown that Kairi doesn’t have much influence there) are lil adventurous gremlins-
It’s not just a ceremony or celebration of Riku becoming a Keyblade master though- the whole kingdom is celebrating the Return of the King Prince!

100% that the most important and valued thing in Disney Town is the preservation of childhood innocence and safety.
Which is why Mickey would feel a sense of guilt on how BBS turned out because that trio were like teenagers still, with Ven being the youngest. And guilt for how Sora, Kairi, and Riku were all dragged into a war at like 12-15 years old. The whole point of sending Riku away was to keep him safe!
Not just his son was put in danger, but his son’s friends too-
Would Minnie be mad at him for how it turned out? Would she blame him? Would she kick his ass? Or worse- ignore him?
All these thoughts just course through Mickey’s head for ages even as he arrives at Disney Castle at the end of KH2.
He remembers how pissed Donald and Goofy were when he broke the news to them that he’d be sending his own son away. Both of his friends raising their own kids could never fathom sending them away- not to a strange, unknown world with no family (or memories) for anything.
Then the two abandon Sora years later, too overcome with a sense of duty to their lost prince and the king’s orders to ‘follow the Keyblade’. They’ve come to regret that and have sworn to never leave Sora behind ever again.
(Then KH3 happens and Sora goes somewhere where they can’t protect him)
But that’s besides the point because Minnie’s just glad to have her child back.
A child she never thought she would have, wouldn’t trade for anything, and would sacrifice everything for

But yeah, to Minnie Riku will always be her baby. The moment that she laid her eyes him when he was a baby. She loves him so much that it kills her so having him back in her life was the best thing that ever happened to her. So he spends time with her the most to catch up.
Ur so right about the whole thing about the Disney Kingdom (Basically Town and Castle are a kingdom obviously). Whole thing is to preserve and protect the light of innocents. It’s why it’s so whimsical and semi untouched by heartless for a long time until the events of KH2. So children were very much protected (Tho Keyblade wielders are treated with respect Toons can’t help but to side eye Keyblade masters with very young students-)
It sucks that the destiny trio were unfortunately drafted to war but regardless theyre willing to give their all to save the worlds and stop Xehanort!
But you know what cracks me up the fucking Seasalt trio finding out that Riku’s fucking Too. Royalty is so funny to pass it up especially Axel and Roxas. LIKE WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT DISHEVELED ASSHOLE IS ROYALTY!?

Riku would probably hide the fact that he’s a prince to everyone for obvious reasons. He doesn’t like it when people treat him differently because he’s royalty, it’s uncomfortable. This can also low key imply that Ansem the wise (possibly his apprentices but before Lea, Isa and Terranort had at least heard of Riku) would actually be aware of Riku’s true status from his connection with Mickey.
I’ve been thinking about Kingdom Hearts lately (I only care about the Disney-toon parts) and I love AUs where Mickey takes in Riku like a son.
I raise you an AU further:
Mickey finds Riku as a baby in DisneyTown. He and Minnie raise him as their own. Well, after Mickey fails to find out where Riku came from and figures that whoever abandoned probably did so because they didn’t want him.
Riku lives a happy, peaceful life in DisneyTown until he’s around six years old. That’s when Yensid tells Mickey about a vision of the future he had where Maleficent takes an interest in Riku when he’s older.
To keep Riku safe, Yensid takes his memories and tampers with the collective memories of Destiny Island’s inhabitants before sending him there. Per Mickey’s request to “Send him somewhere safe”.
KH1 happens all the same except with allusions from Maleficent about Riku’s true past. And yes, Kairi’s backstory is still the same and Sora is still unremarkable compared to them.
Donald and Goofy are reminded of the boy from years ago whenever they encounter Riku.

Like Mickey low key bragging about his Son to Aqua and Ven, how he would love to meet them.!Gosh I just imagine them seeing this silver haired 6 year old boy proudly introducing himself as the Prince of Disney town along with his Momma Minnie. Like the whole Disney town segments is just Riku trying to be a Hero like his Dad helping the denizens from Pete’s antics with his Mom. And admiring the Trio. Pete having the FUNNIEST Rivarly with a fucking 6 year old feels weirdly on brand for him (The reason why Pete doesn’t lay his hands on him is if he did Minnie would Unleash the wrath of a thousand suns upon him with no mercy).
He still gets bequeathed by Terra regardless due to him seeing how much he tries to protect his people. As the Prince it’s his duty to help and defend his subjects even if he’s small.
tho despite what ya intended it would even more sadder that Riku was sent to Destiny Islands AFTER the events of BBS. Due to how traumatically tragic it was for Mickey for failing to help the wayfinder trio and is terrified of something far worse happening (Thanks to Yen Sid’s vision) to Riku and being unable to prevent it. Resulting Riku to be sent there on the first place for his own safety but alas twuas fate’s a cruel mistress.
Even with his Memories Tampered Riku still feels something’s missing and there’s a Level of homesickness that he couldn’t understand. It be so fucking ironic that in CoM, Riku’s memories of his Original life slowly starts to comeback to him a contrast of Sora’s memories being severely altered. Him spending time with Mickey helps since that’s his lil baby! Look at him he’s growing up! Taller than him now!! Mickey pretty much had to help and support Riku, cause he knows dang well that it isn’t true! Riku was always a Kind and sweet boy always looking out for others, he was manipulated, for sure but he always try to do the right thing. Everyone on Disneytown loves their prince darkness or not he’s still his Little Star to him and Minnie!! He will help Riku through this, their keep that darkness uncontrol!! They’ll work together to make things right!! He will not fail him like what happened all those years ago, he will be there for Riku no matter what and He will come home!!
Oh and trust me when Riku does return to Disneytown after the Events of KH2. Everyone lost their shit that Riku’s home, much taller than he was before. Throwing the biggest festival ever, celebrating the return of their beloved prince. Making Riku genuinely emotional and overwhelmed (of course Sora and Kairi are invited too and have their permanent citizenship’s because they are his best friends dammit!!)
His reunion with Minnie was extremely emotional to say the least especially now that he TOWERS over his adopted parents but it didn’t stop them from crushing him with hugs and the amount of tears were shed was CRAZY-
And the best part would be that the only thing Riku has a clear memory of is a wordless, incomplete tune. He doesn’t remember the words, and he doesn’t remember anything other than the intro. But he hums it all the time when he’s stressed or doing something repetitive or just bored.
Whenever Sora or Kairi asks about he says that he heard once but doesn’t remember from where.
He hums it when he’s walking with Mickey in the Darkness after KH1.
Mickey picks up on it immediately as soon as Riku starts to hum it and sings along:
“When you wish upon a star”
Think that one part at the end of Anastasia, that’s how Mickey knows for sure this is his son.
Mickey sings the rest, the rest that Riku’s forgotten: “Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires

Genuinely it would be such a surprising moment for Riku that Mickey knows about the rest of the song. It turns out that Song was actually a lullaby that they sing to him when he gets Fussy as a baby or in need of comfort when he’s upset. It’s a special song that’s etched in his heart, something that no magic could ever removed from him.
Gosh Maleficent telling him to shut up everytime he hums that tune around her. So he’ll only hum it when he’s alone.
It was emotional to Mickey to know that Riku still remembers regardless of how incomplete the tune was. His Heart had never forgotten Home, all the more reasons for him keep his boy safe and reconnect with him than he already have.
He would comment that’s where the “Little Star” nickname came from because he found him at night and how bright the stars were and his silver hair.
Gosh I just imagine how much of a wreck when he returns to Disney castle. Like you can’t tell me, he looked incredibly disheveled in his KH2 design. He’s extremely nervous like how everyone would judge him but Sora and the others supports him that regardless they’ll love him no matter. Especially once Minnie sees him, she immediately recognizes him and would be in tears of how her little star grew up so tall and handsome even if he looks like a ragged mess.
Having deep nostalgic feelings of returning to his actual home. Nearly chocking when he sees the paintings, Kairi would tease him of how adorable he looked and everyone else earning some embarrassed protests from him. He would get a change of clothes to reflect his status as a Prince and get cleaned up, but still his style slightly similar to Mickey’s clothes. He still travels and trains as a Keyblade wielder but he’ll always return home to the castle to be with his family and subjects catching up with his Royal training wanting to be a good leader to people of Disney town and spending time with his Momma.
It’s funny cause while Kairi is a princess she doesn’t have royal duties unlike Riku who’s kinda an heir -
And ya bet ur socks that Sora and Kairi are getting a Disneytown tour by Riku himself. It’s gonna be very silly and fun.

The family says nothing as they walk back to the castle. They tuck Riku in for the night, sing him the lullaby, and kiss him good night.
And then, walking back to their own bedroom, Mickey drops the bombshell on Minnie: ‘I’m sending him away.’
He didn’t consult her. He just gave some REALLY valid reasons to do so and she. Well- she agreed (after a good long back and forth).
But also consider: Yen Sid being the one to alter memories and sending Riku away. And when Riku learns the truth hates the old master (because someone needs to be responsible) and Yen Sid just accepts this- until!
Everyone learns about Xehnort and the events of BBS. That man is to be blamed for everything and at the end of KH3, it’s Riku who gets to give the killing blow.
(Because what did that guy do to receive a peaceful ending anyway? He ruined the lives of countless people and destroyed entire worlds)

I actually love the idea in this context Riku doesn’t actually train with Yen Sid because of those reasons. Unlike Sora and Kairi who are continuing their training with him while Riku directly trains with Mickey since he’s a Keyblade Master so the old Mouse would know tricks, and his resentment towards the old master is…noticeable for everyone). Maybe he takes a lil longer to catch up to his friends due to focusing on catching with his family and duties. The times that he does come to Mysterious Tower there’s an air of tension in the Room, he’s cold and distant not wanting to do anything with him unless it’s important.
Tho after the whole Xehanort mess is over he semi forgives Yen Sid and are in decent terms.

Also based on a low key headcanon of mind when it comes to the ages of bequeathing keyblade wielders those from Scala (so folks like eraquias and Xehanort) commonly get bequeathed at the ages of 6-10 years old as tradition due to the legends of the keyblade wars and how the hearts of children have more light than getting older in risk of darkness being in their hearts. But for folks like Mickey, Toons tend to wait much longer for the individual to have a form of training and education and some experience before getting bequeathed. Because they understand the value and safety of children, the belief of nurturing their hearts’s light and growth before passing the Keyblade a far more safer belief than those of Scala’s. Plus there’s evidence that folks can develop Keyblades without bequeathing (Axel’s an obvious example)
Mickey plans to bequeath Riku when he’s a Teenager, still young but at least mature enough to understand the circumstances allowing him to grow understanding a watchful eye at least. Hell Mickey became and started Keyblade Stuff as an Adult, a pretty late bloomer but he still became a master regardless. But Riku still asks for the Ceremony regardless because he feels that it’s the least that he can do to bond with his dad more.

Throwing the biggest festival ever, celebrating the return of their beloved prince. Making Riku genuinely emotional and overwhelmed (of course Sora and Kairi are invited too and have their permanent citizenship’s because they are his best friends dammit!!)
His reunion with Minnie was extremely emotional to say the least especially now that he TOWERS over his adopted parents but it didn’t stop them from crushing him with hugs and the amount of tears were shed was CRAZY-
And the best part would be that the only thing Riku has a clear memory of is a wordless, incomplete tune. He doesn’t remember the words, and he doesn’t remember anything other than the intro. But he hums it all the time when he’s stressed or doing something repetitive or just bored.
Whenever Sora or Kairi asks about he says that he heard once but doesn’t remember from where.

Genuinely it would be such a surprising moment for Riku that Mickey knows about the rest of the song. It turns out that Song was actually a lullaby that they sing to him when he gets Fussy as a baby or in need of comfort when he’s upset. It’s a special song that’s etched in his heart, something that no magic could ever removed from him.
Gosh Maleficent telling him to shut up everytime he hums that tune around her. So he’ll only hum it when he’s alone.
It was emotional to Mickey to know that Riku still remembers regardless of how incomplete the tune was. His Heart had never forgotten Home, all the more reasons for him keep his boy safe and reconnect with him than he already have.

Having deep nostalgic feelings of returning to his actual home. Nearly chocking when he sees the paintings, Kairi would tease him of how adorable he looked and everyone else earning some embarrassed protests from him. He would get a change of clothes to reflect his status as a Prince and get cleaned up, but still his style slightly similar to Mickey’s clothes. He still travels and trains as a Keyblade wielder but he’ll always return home to the castle to be with his family and subjects catching up with his Royal training wanting to be a good leader to people of Disney town and spending time with his Momma.

The family says nothing as they walk back to the castle. They tuck Riku in for the night, sing him the lullaby, and kiss him good night.
And then, walking back to their own bedroom, Mickey drops the bombshell on Minnie: ‘I’m sending him away.’
He didn’t consult her. He just gave some REALLY valid reasons to do so and she. Well- she agreed (after a good long back and forth).
But also consider: Yen Sid being the one to alter memories and sending Riku away. And when Riku learns the truth hates the old master (because someone needs to be responsible) and Yen Sid just accepts this- until!
Everyone learns about Xehnort and the events of BBS. That man is to be blamed for everything and at the end of KH3, it’s Riku who gets to give the killing blow.
(Because what did that guy do to receive a peaceful ending anyway? He ruined the lives of countless people and destroyed entire worlds)

I actually love the idea in this context Riku doesn’t actually train with Yen Sid because of those reasons. Unlike Sora and Kairi who are continuing their training with him while Riku directly trains with Mickey since he’s a Keyblade Master so the old Mouse would know tricks, and his resentment towards the old master is…noticeable for everyone). Maybe he takes a lil longer to catch up to his friends due to focusing on catching with his family and duties. The times that he does come to Mysterious Tower there’s an air of tension in the Room, he’s cold and distant not wanting to do anything with him unless it’s important.
Tho after the whole Xehanort mess is over he semi forgives Yen Sid and are in decent terms.

I’ve been thinking about Kingdom Hearts lately (I only care about the Disney-toon parts) and I love AUs where Mickey takes in Riku like a son.
I raise you an AU further:
Mickey finds Riku as a baby in DisneyTown. He and Minnie raise him as their own. Well, after Mickey fails to find out where Riku came from and figures that whoever abandoned probably did so because they didn’t want him.
Riku lives a happy, peaceful life in DisneyTown until he’s around six years old. That’s when Yensid tells Mickey about a vision of the future he had where Maleficent takes an interest in Riku when he’s older.
To keep Riku safe, Yensid takes his memories and tampers with the collective memories of Destiny Island’s inhabitants before sending him there. Per Mickey’s request to “Send him somewhere safe”.
KH1 happens all the same except with allusions from Maleficent about Riku’s true past. And yes, Kairi’s backstory is still the same and Sora is still unremarkable compared to them.
Donald and Goofy are reminded of the boy from years ago whenever they encounter Riku.

I just imagine Mickey finding Riku the same way as Mr.Ping found Po in Kung Fu Panda 2, Mickey on a small patrol then finding a small mysterious human baby found in a small crate in the outskirts of Disney town. Crying his lil heart out because of how cold and lonely. Mickey immediately takes the baby in and tries searching to see if anyone’s gonna pick or find him only to conclude that this poor lil guy has no one. So he decides to take him in, though he asks Minnie first about this only to realize that she quickly snagged the baby from his arms and is doting on him being an obvious yes from her.
Just like ya said, Riku lives a peaceful life in Disney Town as their beloved Prince even if he’s not related to the rules but still beloved regardless. He loves his parents very much (Tho he kinda wants to be a mouse like his parents but Mickey and Minnie explained to him that it wasn’t the case) Oh my god, HIM MEETING THE WAYFINDER TRIO ON DISNEY TOWN-
Timeline wise it be very silly that Riku have met the three of them. Like Mickey low key bragging about his Son to Aqua and Ven, how he would love to meet them.!Gosh I just imagine them seeing this silver haired 6 year old boy proudly introducing himself as the Prince of Disney town along with his Momma Minnie. Like the whole Disney town segments is just Riku trying to be a Hero like his Dad helping the denizens from Pete’s antics with his Mom. And admiring the Trio. Pete having the FUNNIEST Rivarly with a fucking 6 year old feels weirdly on brand for him (The reason why Pete doesn’t lay his hands on him is if he did Minnie would Unleash the wrath of a thousand suns upon him with no mercy).
He still gets bequeathed by Terra regardless due to him seeing how much he tries to protect his people. As the Prince it’s his duty to help and defend his subjects even if he’s small.
tho despite what ya intended it would even more sadder that Riku was sent to Destiny Islands AFTER the events of BBS. Due to how traumatically tragic it was for Mickey for failing to help the wayfinder trio and is terrified of something far worse happening (Thanks to Yen Sid’s vision) to Riku and being unable to prevent it. Resulting Riku to be sent there on the first place for his own safety but alas twuas fate’s a cruel mistress.
Even with his Memories Tampered Riku still feels something’s missing and there’s a Level of homesickness that he couldn’t understand. It actually makes his reason to leave destiny Islands weirdly more believable because deep down in his heart there’s more beyond the islands, he can’t explain why but…it’s true…
Also having a habit of drawing small Mickey doodles on the sand (gets slightly teased by friends about it).
Meanwhile everyone in disneytown grieves for their lost Prince and the Mickey and Minnie just felt…Horrible and sad for doing this for their Son (especially Mickey, that decision WAS NOT EASY TO DO-). There’s a Painting of the Royal family on Disney castle when They took Riku as a baby and one when he was Five that hangs in the castle walls as both rules would just look at it sadly. The Lost Prince of Disneytown.
Kh1 would still happen similary with the change but I raise ya that Pete fucking Clocks in that Maleficent’s Brat is actually the Same brat from all those years ago and is NOT HAPPY ABOUT. More reasons for Maleficent to keep Riku in clutches as much as possible. She even twists the truth of his true past how he’s banished and unwanted. Riku would be hurt and even more vulnerable of her manipulation but there would be moments of his true memories resurfacing that contradicts her lies.
Donald and Goofy slowly realize that boy is the Lost Prince and are freaking out HARD (making them leaving Sora in KH1 even more sadder). Mickey with have a thousand heart attacks when he finds Riku in the realm of darkness…HE NEEDS TO BE OUT NOW.
Oh yeah! Sora and Eventually Kairi would be FLOORED to learn that Riku’s Royalty that’s gonna be fun. Especially Riku the poor kid’s about to be the crisis of a lifetime and a THOSAND QUESTIONS LIKE HE’S A PRINCE AND IS ADOPTED MY ROYAL MICE!? WHAT!?

Oh- I read along that Sora’s necklace was a gift from Riku imagine if that necklace was a gift from his parents that was kept but gave it to Sora because of how much he means to him.
Tho I’ll say this DisneyCastle’s gonna be really fun for Sora when he sees Riku on those Royal paintings and learning more about his Past as the Lost Prince, before revealing to Minnie that Riku’s still Alive and okay and he’s doing everything that he can to find him and bring him safely earning some grateful tears from her.
It be so fucking ironic that in CoM, Riku’s memories of his Original life slowly starts to comeback to him a contrast of Sora’s memories being severely altered. Him spending time with Mickey helps since that’s his lil baby! Look at him he’s growing up! Taller than him now!! Gosh he’s gonna start fucking bawling if it wasn’t for the fact there in a precarious situation at the Castle Oblivion Rn-
And the DRAMA BETWEEN HIM AND MICKEY WOULD GO SO HARD. Asking Mickey why he sent him away all those years ago and altered his memories in the process forgetting his home, his mama and so much. He’s a mess of restoring memories and a Darkness that haunts his heart, that anger hides so much fear and confusion Mickey being ashamed explains after failing to help his friends and learning the vision, he was terrified of losing him too being in severe danger just like those friends. So he sended him somewhere safe, somewhere where he can make friends and live a happy safe life away from danger.
But Riku bites back saying that while he did lived a normal safe life HE WAS HOMESICK AND LONELY. There’s an apart of him that yearns to be home, at Disney town his family and subjects. The kind people that loved their prince dearly. Of course he doesn’t forget that he has best friends that he made on destiny islands if anything he wants to show them his kingdom- no his family.
But at the same time the share of his darkness and the events of Kh1 still haunts. He doesn’t want to return home being like this. Like how are the people of disneytown- no his Momma, are gonna respond that their prince had terrorized worlds and wielded the darkness that harmed his friends. He can’t go home to be like this, not like this- he doesn’t have the courage to return to his friends!! He’s terrible! No better than Pete!! Amsen or maleficent!!
Mickey pretty much had to help and support Riku, cause he knows dang well that it isn’t true! Riku was always a Kind and sweet boy always looking out for others, he was manipulated, for sure but he always try to do the right thing. Everyone on Disneytown loves their prince darkness or not he’s still his Little Star to him and Minnie!! He will help Riku through this, their keep that darkness uncontrol!! They’ll work together to make things right!! He will not fail him like what happened all those years ago, he will be there for Riku no matter what and He will come home!!

Oh and trust me when Riku does return to Disneytown after the Events of KH2. Everyone lost their shit that Riku’s home, much taller than he was before. Throwing the biggest festival ever, celebrating the return of their beloved prince. Making Riku genuinely emotional and overwhelmed (of course Sora and Kairi are invited too and have their permanent citizenship’s because they are his best friends dammit!!)
His reunion with Minnie was extremely emotional to say the least especially now that he TOWERS over his adopted parents but it didn’t stop them from crushing him with hugs and the amount of tears were shed was CRAZY-
