dhurkedatz who don't "properly confess" bc they don't have the words for it/don't need the words for it, but it's like...... i really really do like the idea of dhurke being the typical Man Hero figure that he's clearly meant to be LMAO Like he knows how to woo the queen and get the girl and all that, but that's, you know, for queens and girls, and it's not that he's overly concerned with being attracted to men or anything, but it just hasn't crossed his mind..

i think you can either do a "gender-agnostic" approach to writing romance, which i tend to do, but you can also do an approach that is very much aware that courting men and women looks different, and so its like ... the dhurke who looks at datz and knows that if this were amara, he'd say that was supposed to be said. like he knows what happens now. he gets it

but it's.. datz. you know? handsome in an undeniably masculine way and someone he's inseperably close with, who he can't imagine leaving behind, someone he wants to-- no, knows he'll spend the rest of his life with, but like...

how do you say that, you know? there isn't weeks of sweet flirting and following the footsteps of happily married couples generations before them. stuff you see on tv and copy because it's what's done. it's just.. him.. and datz.. and the two kids they've somehow ended up raising together in this house they've ended up living in together, following a cause they've suddenly built up together...

so when he looks at datz one summery night, the kind of night they've spent together for months and years at this point... he sees those warm grey eyes crinkling up as his friend smiles at some-stupid-thing probably... they were talking about nonsense and fell into a comfortable silence. and dhurke just. looks. because datz is pretty damn good to look at... and he knows this is when he would say something, but, it's not right to follow through with the heritage's lines of sincere romantic love, even though it is, basically, what he feels. it's. something else. and he's left speechless. he'll have to find it.. together. with datz.

.....and it's not like datz is any more gifted in confessing or anything. datz has known he's gay for a while now and may have fooled around plenty of times before falling in with dhurke like this but he's datz and he's certainly never been concerned with the traditional ways of doing anything 😭

dhurke's left with this feeling that he's felt more times than he can count with datz by his side, the feeling of standing blindly on the edge of a fogged-up cliff, and even though he knows he's supposed to go forward, god, it's still terrifying not knowing if your foot will hit solid ground or if you'll go plummeting, you know...?

...so they don't say anything. they just.. fall into each other.. kissing, and looking up, and then breaking the silence with laughter, the same way they've boldly gone into everything up until this point... together..

Shit has BEEN happening to Black people across administrations and is currently happening to Black people under this administration, and is met by crickets.
